@,

He hesitated. But barely. That's pretty darn good, all things considered.

"Don't ever wise up, colt."

Shoots looked down on her pegasus, willing him to get better, If his weird smiling was much of anything to go by, Shooting Star decided, her presence could do a lot for him. He looked better already. Still a little immobile, but....better.

I was kicked from my hometown because I was different...I was told I was cursed, I was evil, and I should never return...to the town my whole family lived in...and even my family told me to get out." A few tears rolled down her cheeks, leaving long wet trails. By the time the tears fell to the floor they were much much bigger than the average tear...as if they had been collecting water on their way down her cheeks.

Flame smiled and followed Rockshire outside.

When they arrived at the pool, he stuck a hoof in to feel the water, then...he smiled and fell in.
His head broke the surface a few moments later and he laughed. "Come on in." He said, gesturing for Rockshire to join him.

(SLOOOW DOWN! AAH! CAN'T KEEP UP!)

Slide quickly walked in, and saw Windy all bandaged up. And he heard the part about his drinking. Way tto g lying to the doc.

"Well, it's good to know you can stay awake for sometime. Too bad you can't come back with us, since they'll probably shoo us out. Anyways,nI hope you get better. And please, don't give them too much trouble. This may sound selfish, but I'm slightly responsible for you, and I haven't had a good paying gig in weeks, so....yeah."

He looked out the door, waiting dor a nurse to come in and seperate Shoots with Windy.

As Ocean's tears ran down her cheek, a few landed on Cascade's outstretched arm, or else on her shoulder, and the skin the liquid tears touched began to shimmer and glow faintly as they rolled down.

"Don't ever wise up, colt."

Windy blinked confusedly. "Did she call me dumb? Or at the least unwise? Well, I mean, she's not wrong, but not what I was expecting her to say, that's for sure. Whatever, that is a promise I have no issue making and will have no problem keeping!"

"Sure Shoots, I'll be sure to never wise up. I don't know what you don't want me to wise up to, but I assure you, whatever it is, it won't happen!" Windy said confidently, rubbing his right hoof over his chest and then miming sticking it into his eye. "I Pinky Promise Shoots."

@@Windy Scamper,

Shooting Star watched Windy Runner wince and draw a hoof across his chest in some kind of pantomine. It was so innocent. And he used words like 'never'. Words that gave her time. Time to be places like here, where she wanted to be.

She probably heard Slide Grease tap into the room. She probably should have scooted away from the hospital bed and said hello. But when she looked back on those darn, faulty memories, she only remembered one face there with her, filled with warmth and smiling straight up at her.

It had been a very, very long night. There are times in a pony's life when everything piles up on their ears at once. On days like that, when life gets compressed into a tiny bottle full of words and thoughts, sometimes the flesh and spirit give way. It's a defense mechanism of sorts--part cold evolved strategy, part cutting losses, part surrender to the greater mercy of Celestia.

At some point, after enough has happened, it doesn't really matter how calculating a pony is or how much of a big filly they are--a pony's inner self simply shuts the brain down and refuses to think anymore, saying 'to hay with it' and proceeds, until unconsciousness or madness takes them, to do exactly what their heart directs in every moment. No more, and no less.

Shoots blinked before tears could form, hopped up, dug her forehooves into the cheap mattress and pressed her face down on Windy Runner's. She was a fully grown mare, eight-teen years, old, and as far as she knew it was her first kiss.

He tasted way better than brownies.

@@Dawn Stripes,

"Higher brain functions terminated. Initiating system reset. Reset attempt has failed... Attempting again in 30 seconds... Standby... Standby..."

Windy was never a particularly quick or sharp stallion.  He had his moments of brilliance, yes, but this was not shaping up to be one of those. In fact, at the moment when he became aware Shoots was kissing him, he was lucky that the brain functions needed to keep one's heart beating were, in fact, totally subconscious, and not affected by one's higher cognitive functions. Because if they had been, Nurse Redheart would have been trying to treat him for cardiac arrest. As it was, his heart rate monitor tripled almost instantly. This was certainly not Windy's first kiss, but definitely his best, and most memorable. After several long moments, the two broke apart and stared at each other quietly. Or maybe it had two weeks. Or maybe three centuries. However long it had been, only one thought remained intact in Windy's now scrambled brain: "Wow......... What do I do now...?"

Slide watched and rolled his eyes, as he assumed they coudln't see. Not like that dangerously raises bloos pressure for him. The nurse soon popped in and gave a Slide a one minute warning as far as visitation. He needed to get them apart, and Shoots away, or else he was about to be in even more trouble.

If I'm lucky, Windy will remember none of this, considering how drunk he is, seeing how he didn't noticed he was severly impaled.

"Welp, sorry to break any moment, but Shoots, we gotta go, or they'll force us out. And I've been in enough trouble for one night."

"I know what to do."

Shoots held out through one long breath of tainted air, and dove back down, letting Windy's face fill her vision they way it filled her heart. She was diving into an unfathomed ocean, a saltless sea which refelcted a warm-brown Saddle Arabian sky. She was unlikely to let it end unless torn away.

What was left of her cognitive processing only made mild, bemused comments. This couldn't be love; she only knew him for a day. Love, after all, was something for stallions who swept into your life on a rope sewn from their own mane to pull you away from fire; love was for stallions you knew would never leave you, that would sacrifice anything to give you the sky you wanted, that you knew unquestionably had been born to love you. She knew none of these things; perhaps some part of her was still terrified, in fact. But it didn't stop her. This was.....

...words, words, what's she to pay for a word, what kind of word for the tickle of that long hair against her cheek or the smell of pegasus breath in her own mouth or having no idea what she was doing and letting him lead the kiss and.....

nice.

Nice would do nicely.

She winced, seemingly at the fact that she had even mentioned... whatever it was.

@@Dawn Stripes,

"Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshhhhh!!!...................... Well, she certainly is being forward about this, which is certainly not a bad thing in my book. Wow she's a good kisser, best one I've ever met! This can't possibly be her first kiss! Mental Note: find out who taught her to be such a good kisser, and first thank him, then hit him!"

A sound of tearing fabric startled Windy off of cloud 9, and he opened one eye lazily to look for the source of the sound. His eyes flew wide open when he saw what had torn the fabric: His wings had torn out of the cloth binding them to his sides and were extended out to the sides, at full wingspan. A searing pain was coursing through them, since they probably weren't supposed to be moved so early in his recovery. Yelping in pain, Windy broke apart from Shoots, as much as he didn't want to.

"Uh, Shoots... As much as I love what you're doing, I don't think it would be in my best interests at the moment..." Windy gestured to his wings, with a growing blush visible through his fur and a certain tone of shame in his voice, "Can I take a rain check on what you were just doing by chance, for a healthier time?"

@@Windy Scamper,

Shooting Star gasped and jumped back. She didn't see what had ripped, but ripping sounds were definately not a good thing and...

Windy's wings were extended. He looked to be in pain. "Ouch," she whispered. "Uh...what are you doing?"

Nevermind, why are you asking? Just... eh...

Shoots tried to nudge his wings closed against his side again, but the touch of her hoof just seemed to make them go more oddly stiff. She backed away a few steps to make sure she wouldn't hurt him for now. Now that she was out of a close proximity, it was a wonder that nopony was....

"Oh. Hi there, Slide Grease."

Now she had to be blushing halfway to rose-mauve. Not that she wasn't still smiling, not-quite-apologetically. The heat of her embarrassed vessels was only another layer of spiraling sensation at this point. The buzz she was riding could have weathered the Third Coming of Discord.

She looked back at Cascade and wanted to ask about her coat...but remembered that if somepony asked her about her curse...there was no way she would reply. "You're a nice pony Cascade."

@@Windy Scamper,

Shooting Star only spent a couple minutes wedging herself in the far corner of the room before getting back to her hooves and trotting up to Slide Grease. The host, she remembered, the colt she'd been....erm, talking to before. This wasn't awkward at all. Nah.

"Thanks for the party, by the way." She giggled. "Like. Good party."

A look at his expression told her something was amiss, but Shoots' brain didn't make the effort to make connections until another pair of hoofsteps started in the hall. "Mr. Grease, I asked you to get her out of there in...."

Nurse Redheart stopped outside of the door, looked at the torn bandages on Windy Runner's wings, and then narrowed her eyes at Shoots. Yikes. What was eating her?

"I live on Crayonberry Lane!" Shoots managed to get out while being lifted onto somepony else's back.. "I'll come visit you! I'm at the--"

A door was absently kicked shut by a nurse's hind hoof, blocking Slide and Windy Runner from view.

The flourescent, stained light bars passed overhead in silence. "Get better," Shoots said into the nurse's sterile uniform after a minute.

As they walked, Slide began talking. "I bet he won't even remember tonight, considering how drunk he is. I'll be suprised if he pays soccer any time this year. He'll probably be devastated, and when he tried to explain why, he won't be able to. Getting drunk is a horrible thing....I hated doing it, I had to stop. Anyways, yeah.
