@@Glaceon,

Ocean chuckled. "Both of us do have something strange that involves water...so I think so." She said, smiling and glancing around the room. "Pretty nice party huh." She said, looking back at Cascade. "I didn't really want to come...but I'm happy I did." She blushed slightly and looked down at her hooves.

(OOC: Is it just me or do we not have enough Stallions ?)

Cascade shuffled her hooves across the ground, rather self-consciously. "Yeah. Yeah." She looked slightly embarrassed at even the mere mentioning of her... strangeness, but she withheld her misgivings. Ocean was somepony that she should make an exception for, somepony she could trust with this. She seemed sensible.

@@Dawn Stripes,

((I'm bringing in an outside Stallion character, who won't interrupt or interfere with the story, but will be important for a dialogue with Windy now and again. That is all))

"Bye Shoots.. Happy Hearts and Hooves Day..." Windy said to the already shut door.  Sighing with frustration, Windy searched for anything within hoove's reach he could use to entertain himself. But since playing with his sheets was the only real option available at the moment, he gave up with an irate snort. Carefully laying back down on his back, Windy tried fruitlessly to fall asleep, but the beeping machines, the tubes in his chest he was all too aware of, the dull pain behind the painkillers, and thoughts of Shoots kept sleep from him. After a period of attempts at sleep, Windy heard his window creak open. Grabbing his pillow, Windy prepared to fight, ineffective as it would be. Instead of a scary intruder, however, a blue earth pony clambered through the window, bearing a grin that put Windy's best to shame.

"AHAHAHA!! Windy, when I heard this, I couldn't possibly believe you'd be this dumb, but here you are. Thanks for proving me wrong about your intelligence... again!"

Windy visibly relaxed upon realizing that the 'intruder' was only Fondue Shake, soda jerk at the ice-cream shop across from where Windy worked, and also one of Windy's best friends.

"Shut up Fon, this is perfectly justifiable! And no, it wasn't because I drank too much before you assume that."

"Alright man, well spill. I want to know what exactly was so important that you impaled yourself over it."

"Well Fon, I was at this party, and I met this mare. Her name..."

"Hold up just a second Windy! You let this happen to you over a mare?! Windy, you go through mares faster than I go through mane gel, and we both know how long THAT stuff lasts for me... How could she be any different?"

"I couldn't describe it and even if I did, you'd laugh. Something about her just felt... right. We clicked, ok? I haven't felt an instant spark like this ever before."

"You can't possibly be serious... You're really naive, you know that Windy? You honestly think she cares about you? Sure, she was all over you at this precious party of yours, but that means nothing. And you know why? Because it was a Heart's and Hooves party, and no self-respecting mare wants to be single. As soon as the hype of Hearts and Hooves dies down to wait another year to come again, she'll be gone, I guarantee." So saying, Fondue began climbing back out the window, but paused on the ledge, and turned back to Windy, "I just don't want to see you get hurt by getting too commited too early on to something so superficial, ok Windy? Maybe she is 'the one', I mean, it is always a possibility. Heal up quick, and when you're up to it and Redheart lets me, I'll bring you a nice big sundae, on the house! Ciao!" With that, Fondue nimbly vaulted out of the window sill and into the darkness, leaving Windy laying distraught in bed.

@@Windy Scamper,

(OOC: Slide and Windy should probably OOC at this point, figure out just how drunk the pegasus really was. Don't tell me which.)

Shooting Star eventually managed to wriggle off Redheart's back and onto her own hooves, at which point she discovered Slide Grease walking next to her, talking. She walked beside the earth pony, glad to have a less grabby escort out of Ponyville Hospital.

But by the time they made it to the glass double-doors, she was stopping short. "Wait, what? You...but he said he wasn't, Slide! You don't mean that--do you? He wasn't, right?"

"Yes, but the doctor said he was. And I trust them more over than his word, especislly if he was drunk. Sometimes big shot athletes like him really find ways to make me hat them, blowing their career for one "fun" night with some hot mare they find. They don't even care about the mare most of the time,.don't even get to know her. Ugh. Sorry, I ranted. It's colts like those that almost made me give up on life and it's entirety."

Rockshire had her ears perked up from hearing Flame's last tidbit, unsure of what he had said. That, and a sign of her blush was spreading on her face.

"H-huh? Did you say,,, I was beautiful?", she asked, not looking at him.

Did he seriously just say that? Well... He IS really cute... And it's the first time since I've been called that in a long while....

Flame nodded and turned a bright red.

He was never good at this...especially when he was nervous. He pushed himself through the water with his wings so he was next to Rockshire.

He looked into her eyes and smiled. "The most beautiful."

Shooting Star felt a little sick. She broke into the night air, losing attention temporarily of whether she was being followed by anypone. She found the nearest bench and sat down.

She woudln't have to worry about finding her way home tonight. It was probably past midnight, but most of the streets were lit and the sounds of party poppers and the odd song wafted across every broadway. There was at least one gathering on every block, despite that fact that half the population had to be enjoying some private company at the moment. Ponyville was a town that celebrated love like it meant it.

If only she could think a little bit, but she was just so emotionally drained. "Slide," she groaned, "would you sit with me for a minute? I don't want to take up your time, I just....I don't know, I need to think for a little bit and I don't want to be alone."

I can't give up. All he's done is impress her with looks. I actually care, I actually know a little about her. I won't feed his ego and let him have any mare he wants, especially one I actually love.

@@Dawn Stripes,

Windy sat in bed, mulling over what his plan of action for the next couple of days was. Redheart had just been in to see him, and had informed him that he could be discharged later that day, barring complications of course. The injury wasn't extremely serious, but he would have to avoid physical activity for a decent while, which included soccer and strenuous flights. The difficulty breathing, Redheart had said, was due to his bruised ribs, nothing worse. He would need to rest and recuperate at home, for a while, but it sure beat a hospital any day.

"Step one: get home. Step two: give all the alcohol in my house to Fondue, he would love it, I have something much better for happiness now! Step three: Pay a visit to Crayonberry Lane at a decent hour, and find my special somepony. Step 4: Take her on a REAL date, and hope she still sees something in you after Hearts and Hooves has ended. Step 5: Be happy!

I do wonder how the party is going though. Shame I didn't get to see how it turned out, but whatever. I do hope Slide had the good sense to go back to his party and not try and cling to Shoots. Easy Windy, that line of thinking won't accomplish anything good. Just know she likes YOU, and your sincerity and care are what she loves. Show her that, and you'll be fine. Maybe  I should have her make a Pinky Promise to go on that date with me..."

Windy's last thoughts before drifting off to sleep were about a beautiful comet flying across the sky, and making a desperate wish  on it.

"She's only been gone a short while, and yet I yearn for her and miss her already. I pray to Celestia and Luna above that she feels the same way about me as I do about her."

Shooting Star stared hard at the ground, feeling Slide place a hoof on hers. He seemed genuinely concerned. "Hey, Slide, do you know  Windy Runner? I mean, like, did you know him from before the party?"

She stared at some stars faded by reveler's lights, thinking out loud. "I want to believe everything he said--I can't imagine that Windy's like that." She angrily blew a lavender tuft away from her face. "But...I'm really not a very good judge of character."

"No. I didn't. I guess you could say that I don't get out much."

He paused, wondering what his next move should be. I have to just come out and tell her, let her know I'm everything he's not, and a bit more. He may look better and have a cooler cutie mark, but I care and know how to help and care. I've helped her all night and all Windy's done is show off.

"I think we should go back to the party. Night's still young, I guess. Besides, there's something I want to show you, that I was going to until all the chaos happenned."

"...wait. Something you wanted to show me?"

A little curiosity took over. Besides, maybe it would be rude to refuse a host who'd done so much to keep tonight from falling apart already. So she smiled, a little groggily, moved back from the bench until she found a wide, soft clover patch in the middle of a daisy-clad street island, and circled out a nice little divet for herself.

"Tell you what. I've just got to get a little nap in. Maybe an hour, and I'll totally be good to make it back to your place. Hang with me until then and I'll go with you, okay?"

Shooting Star didn't have it in her to resist at the moment. Words like party and, most particularly, guest bed, pulled her back up on sore hooves, with just a trace of reluctance. It couldn't really matter if she slept at Lilly's house or Slide's, could it?

Shoots opened her mouth to say, "Lead the way," but wound up just gesturing with a foreleg in the space before Slide. Then she walked obediently behind him, keeping in sight of his deep golden tail and letting the lights occasionally distract her from thinking about her hospitalized friend.

@@Dawn Stripes,

((Here's my attempt at a more unique way to get Windy out of the ER. Also, warning LONG post))

"I've got a bad feeling about this Windy...... What do you mean, brain? What do I MEAN? I mean, you'e letting your dream mare waltz off into the sunset, er, sunrise with Mr. Trumpet or whatever he plays. Are you gonna let that happen? What am I supposed to do about it? In case you're still concussed brain, I'm in a HOSPITAL. I can't just leave. Sure you can Windy! Redheart removed those nasty tubes from you, didn't she? And we have a good first aid kit at home for soccer injuries, which includes butterfly stitches. We'll patch up that nasty cut and be on our merry way to see our special filly in no time! Well, I do like the idea of seeing Shoots ASAP... But we really shouldn't..."

Two minutes later, Windy was climbing gingerly out of his window, and headed towards Crayonberry Lane to find Shoots.

However, 30 minutes later, his search had turned up nothing, besides a groggy pony who had introduced herself as Lilly saying that Shoots wasn't home, and must still have been at the party. Undaunted, Windy was struck by his most ingenious plan yet. Moving quckly (but not too quickly!) back to his small cottage, Windy quickly cleaned and re-dressed his wound. It was already starting to heal; he had always been a quick healer. Grabbing a quill, paper, a box, clippers, and other necessities, he set to work on his plan to show Shoots how much he cared for her.

"Whew, that was exhausting! And fairly painful too, but it was worth it!" Windy glanced at the semi-full box that now lay in front of him, and at the letter attached to the top, which had *READ BEFORE OPENING BOX* on the outside. Inside, it read,

Dear Shoots,

I'm sorry I couldn't deliver this in person, but after I busted out of the hospital, (long story, I'll tell you all about it later) I felt I had to do something to show you that you'll always be my Special Somepony, even after the day has long ended. This box is testament to my feelings for you, for in it are the things that were most important to me before I met you. Now, after having met you, they are worthless trinkets worthy of only the trash compared to you. However, I wish to instead give them to you, to show you how much I care for you.

Inside, you'll find my best pair of soccer cleats, the ones that I have treasured for over three years now. (Don't worry, I sprayed them out, they don't stink anymore!) Also inside is the very first soccer ball I ever kicked, the one that broke the judge's window. And finally, scattered throughout the box are a bunch of my flight feathers, which I just clipped. Without these crucial feathers, I am grounded and can't fly until they grow back, which takes weeks, sometimes months. These items formed a large part of my identity, (the other largest single thing, alcohol, I am giving up cold turkey. I have no more need for a pony poison like that any more when I have something, or more specifically, somepony, who makes me happier than it ever could) and I hope you will accept this humble gift and realize I am giving you my life, my whole self. I was a dull, dense, self-centered, arrogant pegasus jock who thought he ruled the town. When I talked to you, though, you forced out a part of me I tried to ignore: my heart. You made me a better me without even meaning to or trying to. Nopony else has ever made me feel like you so effortlessly make me feel. I sincerely hope you will take my puny offering and say yes to a Pinky Promise of my own: To never leave me abandoned and in the dark without a star to guide my way ahead.

If you want to talk, I will be resting in my cottage, its only a few doors down from Sugarcube Corner. You can't miss it, its the one covered in the tacky Cloudsdales Cavaliers FC gear. You don't need to knock, my door will always be open for you. I hope to see you soon, and hope you are doing well!

Sincerely Love,

Your Special Somepony Forever, Windy R.

Ten minutes later, Windy was back in his cottage, laying on his couch under some blankets and resting anxiously, having left the box on Shoot's doorstep. "Now all I can do is wait and hope and pray my Shooting Star will come back so I can wish on her once more." Windy said quietly, before laying his head down on the pillow and falling into a light, restless, nightmare-ridden, sleep.

Slide lead Shoots back into his house. Everypony was scattered, which fortunately,.gave him no greeting to have to deal with. "Here. " he whispered. "This won't take long. I promise. I can even show you it in the guest room, so if you need to drift off to sleep directly afterwards, you can."

He opened the door to the guest room, making sure one of his trombones were in there. He began unpacking it, greasing the slide, and making sure it was in tune.

"Shoots, as I said earlier, my special talent is playing trombone. But it's also showing the art side of it, expressing emotions through the music. And quite frankly, some things can't be expressed with words for me. I have to....well,.play my feelings. Just close your eyes, and listen."

He began to play his trombone, a love song he had once learned in case he ever needed it for a preformance. But tonight, it was his emotion; his need for Shots to come through, to see how he was more than a friend.

He needed her.

(OOC; This is the song he's playing, though obviously, the melody sounds like a trombone and there are no lyrics.

Shoots only partially registered the words at first. Slide had an unobtrusive way of talking. But once the colt quieted and the funny-shaped piece of metal between his hooves started talking, Shooting Star was very quickly wide awake.

There was something filling her ears from out of nowhere, a song full of tenderness and devotion and the unexpected, gentle force with which oceans spawn typhoons and drown islands raised in millenia. It was...

it was beautiful.

Not that she hadn't heard beautiful music before. Lyra was a pretty good musician, in Shoots' opinion. But there was nopony else here. Slide Grease was playing to her, and only to her.

She tried to take a step back, but found the bed at her flanks and tripped onto it. Just as well her legs didn't have to support her. She was frozen until the solo was complete, taken over by the silent but highly nuanced music of a colt staring at her with big blue eyes.

You did call me a beautiful mare. But I...I LAUGHED it. I didn't know....

"What?" was the most intelligent thing out of Shooting Star's mouth at first. But at Slide's reaction, she felt immediately wretched; she didn't want to hurt whatever feelings were being placed in her hooves, so she kept talking, urgent to fix it. "I mean....what?

"Slide Grease...just what are you trying to tell me here?" Because I don't really want to believe the trombone, even though it was more perfectly clear than words could ever be. "You...are you saying...."

She lashed forward, back. "Explain this to me! Just--how? When?"
