"Oh for you...hmm i will tell you after all this is over. I will however reveal that you are a good friend to me." She said as she trotted out the door. Delia then put her stuff down and quickly fashioned a makeshift knife from a stick on the ground and a sharp blade she had in her pack . "There we are."She said out loud as she strapped it to her side.

"Okay now you have me curious. What do you think of me?" Draco asked as he looked into her eyes. "You can't just tell me that you'll tell me after this. I mean I could die before than you know or you could. I'll shut up about that subject for now. Anyhow tell me," Draco said as he poked her side playfully.

"Anyhow everypony we should get moving right now," Draco said as he rolled his shoulders. He grabbed a bag that held several supplies needed for a long journey. "An un expected journey eh every pony maybe I should write a journal about this. I mean I'm just saying because it just might show our descendants what we went through in the future you know. Maybe I'll call it The Mercenaries of Equestria: The Unexpected Journey. How's that for a title?" Draco asked at the end as he looked at his friends. "I know I'm not any good with names but I'll try,"

Dimitri was waking back from his home with his bag as he saw Draco talking to the others. He caught the final part of what he said and was a little perplexed. "What names are you not good with?" Dimitri asked as he just arrived with everyone else. He started to go through his pack as he waited for Draco to answer his question.

 

"The names of our companions?" He took out a book and put it back in his bag.

Draco laughed slightly "Oh no no I'm good with ponies' names I meant I'm not good with coming up with a book name. I'm thinking of making story of our adventure and Well here's the title I just thought of The Mercenaries of Equestria: The Unexpected Journey. Well what do you think Dimitri?" Draco ask towards the end.

"Is not a bad name. Would be a good idea I guess for our future kin. Well, at least I'm certain I'll be having future kin at some point." Dimitri laughed and shook his head. "Maybe, and probably not though." He went back to looking through his bag. Making sure everything was accounted for. "Well, at the house I brought some things of my own. Actual strong liquor, and several books for when I get bored."

 

He pondered that for a moment. "I doubt I'll be bored though. If anything I'm going to be wreck. Constant worry I'm guessing, and the alcohol will be more useful than reading material for me." As he said that he filled his empty flask with some Sovestrian ale he had.

Diamond followed behind Draco and raised an eyebrow at the name suggestion. "The Unexpected Journey makes me think of that book...about the small pony and the dragon and stuff...we wouldn't want ponies thinking we stole the idea for the name..." She said.

"How about The Mercenaries of Equestria then that sounds better I think. Anyhow you ponies want to come with me into town I need to say goodbye to a special little foal that's in town. So if you ponies want to come meet him then your welcome to," Draco said with a smile on his muzzle as he started to walk towards the town. His heart felt heavy and so did his whooves. He had to do this to protect his little sister and her son. He would sing them one last song then go on this adventure.

"Just what I was about to say actually," Acheron told Diamond with a slight smirk. "Anyway.... we should head in soon now. He creatures here are more sluggish during the early morning. However, the deeper we progress it will slowly darken, and the monsters lurking within will be more vicious... I'll guide us through, I know what we should find..."

"I'm good. Though splitting up is rather moronic...I'd rather wait here. I need to get some stuff assorted in my pack, and I need to mark some things in my journal. I only have..." He takes out his small book from his coat and flips to the back page. "...two days, counting today, until I need to see something."

 

He sat down and put his journal away. He started to go through his pack. Fumbling with random things. "I'd like to just be certain my weapon is sharpened, and my other things are all set to go." He didn't want to seem cold though so he closed his pack. "I guess I can come with you real quick Draco, but please be certain it is quick. Time is against us, and the waiting is really taking a toll on my mind..."

Delia frowned a little upon hearing Draco's words. "why do you say that? Do you not trust your abilities?" She said. "Saying you might die like that. None of us are going to die, we all have something to live for and no enemy of ours will take that away from what or who we are living for."Delia sighed as she trotted along leaving silence for other to speak. Delia turned her attention back to Draco after he mentioned a book. "Sounds like an interesting story."

Draco nodded as he lead his friends to his sisters vacation home in town as they came upon it. He gulped slightly as he was nervous. He knocked onto the door gently. He waited for the door to open. He sighed as he felt this was the last time that he would see what would be left of his family.

 

"Hello?" A mares voice came through from the other side of the door. "Ah yes I'm here for Sarah O'Hare and her son," Draco said with a slight professional tone from years of working as a courier. The mare opened the door slowly and it was a maid pony and she said "Yes hold on sir I'll come and get the mistress and the young master," Draco nodded slightly as he waited for his sister to come to the door. Then down came an elegant pegasus mare with a well groomed rustic blonde hair and her coat a lighter red. A small foal was beside her his fur was brown and his mane was a deep blue.

 

"Well, well, well, big brother finally comes to visit hmm. Well what do you need," Sarah said with a Canterlot air of arrogance. The little foal spoke next "Mama who's this stallion and his group?" Sarah looked down to the foal and says "He is your uncle my little Storm Cloud," Draco smiled slightly at Storm cloud then he said "I can you say hello and a good bye little sis and amaybe sing a song that our father once sang,"

 

"Well sing it we don't have all day," Sarah said impatiently as Draco cleared his throat. He began to sing a sorrowful song "Some roads are straight and narrow, some paths are high and steep
Some ways are slow and heavy, Some tracks are dark and deep
But this trail I follow, no matter where it leads
I know I'll never wander, as long as I heed

No matter where or when it goes;
I'll walk it without fail
Because I know that no matter what
My burdens end on this trail.

My load is mine to carry along, I packed it all myself
I chose what to leave behind on that old and dusty shelf
Though memories may chase me, I'll pay them not a care

"Uncle," Storm said slightly above a whisper but the stallion ears perked up hearing it. "Hmm?" "Come back to us will you. I want to hear about your adventures," Storm Cloud said with a whimper and a few tears in his large blue eyes. "Of course I'll come back for you little one. And that is an O'Malley promise,"

 

Sarah had tears in her eyes and she asked privately into his ear "You're not coming back are you Draco?" He looked her into the eyes and whispered into her ear "Probably not but if I don't you and Storm Cloud can have my manor and everything within it. Stay safe my precious one and may the winds never falter under your wings," he walked away as she started to cry slightly calling his name.

 

"Let's go to Everfree my fellow ponies," draco said as he felt his heart break hearing his sister cry out his name over and over again. Just like when they were little. When he gave her up

Diamond had watched Draco and his family speak...she guessed what had happened as he came back over to the group and gave Draco a pat on the back. "Draco...I need to talk to you." She said, taking his hoof and pulling him away from the group, before he could refuse.

 

When they were a good distance away she turned to face him. "Okay...earlier today you pushed me out of the way of that bolt of lightning...you're very protective and very brave, which is a wonderful...but, you cant do that when you have a family...I have no family and I don't want you doing that again...even if the outcome would be death. You're an amazing colt and judging by that mare's reaction...they need you...I am assuming she was your sister ? You two look alike."

Dimitri remained calm on the exterior. He witnessed Draco singing to his family. It reminded him of his own family, and on the inside he thought of earlier times. His mother and father would all sing together whenever they celebrated his grandfather's birthday. They were all gone now, and all he had was his wife. Without her he would've never made it here. He contemplated suicide numerous times back in the home country.

 

Nearly succeeded on several occasions, but dumb luck and a good friend saved him. After arriving here he nearly gave in to the depression that plagued him for years. He stopped thinking about the past, and witnessed Draco get pulled to the side by Diamond. It was a perfect time to psych himself up about the mission. Why he was doing this, yes of course for his friends and the safety of the new country but also for his beloved. Dimitri looked up and spoke. "I think is best if we get going now...."

Draco sighed sadly "Yes she's my sister. You think I don't know that she and the little one needs me? I know they do but this is important. I don't want them hurt alright. There's a line in the song I sang to them Diamond here it is :My load is mine to carry along, I packed it all myself

 I offer thee this silent sacrifice," Draco said as he looked at Diamond. He nuzzled her gently then walked back to the group. He heard what Dimitri said. "Aye,"

Diamond wiped the tears from his eyes. "That's why I'm talking to you Draco...do your best to keep yourself safe. I was talking about what you did earlier today...it was very sweet but if I died it wouldn't be much of a loss. If you did...well, you have ponies who need you, so keep yourself safe. Lets get going." She said, following him back to the group.

Acheron had reluctantly followed Draco and the rest to meet whatever family the pegasus had left. He wasn't really much good with reunions as he wasn't quite talkative, but thankfully the mare and the colt seemed to care little about anypony aside from Draco. As Acheron waited, he sat down and heard them sing a song. It was rather touching, seeing how much they actually cared for each other, even for someone as cold as Acheron. 

 

After a few moments of slow walking and hearing Diamond and Draco talk, he suddenly broke in.

"I hate to interrupt your little soap opera, but I doubt this Seneschal cult is going to wait for us as they do who knows what with the six bearers of the Elements..."

 

Acheron went on ahead towards the very outskirts of the Everfree and waited for the rest to show up.

Diamond stared at Acheron...her expression...not that happy. "Excuse me ? Did you say Soap Opera ? No. We were talking about death and how to make sure Draco gets home to his family without dying. Think before you speak next time." She said, quite obviously annoyed.

"Yes, let us hurry to the Everfree. I need the next clue before I go crazy." Dimitri awkwardly laughed. "So, Acheron....you said you have an idea as to what we are looking for in the forest? What is it exactly?" He questioned Acheron and waited for an answer so they could hurry and get going. Waiting really affected his psyche. Especially with his loved one in possible agony.

 

"In fact, let us walk and talk."

"The song I sang to them was a farewell Diamond. So let's go every pony we're wasting daylight," Draco said aloud as he started to walked towards the Everfree. It was with a heavy heart that Draco walked away from his remaining family. Draco eyes opened up slightly as he plucked a primary feather from his wing. He walked back to his nephew and placed it into the little foals hair. Draco walked towards the Everfree then said to Diamond "Don't you ever say that Diamond I would be said if you died," Draco whispered into her ear. He quickened his pace to catch up "Aye I know the clue that we need to find," Draco said aloud. "It'll be the O'Malley family coat of arms,"

Delia waited until Draco was done with his personal affairs. She then saw Draco walking back to the group. After a while she went up to him. "So that was your family huh? It seems we are the same Draco, shaped by those we have lost and guided by those we still have" She said as she watched Acheron and Comrade walk away. "We should hurry up before those two get themselves in trouble" Delia said jokingly.

Acheron dismissed Diamond's angry statement, preferring not to respond at all to avoid causing some heated argument.

"Twice is enough, Acheron," he told himself.

 

On the way to the forest Dimitri caught up to him and asked him a few things.

"Well, we'd be looking for a specific artifact created by the Seneschal's themselves. I believe it'll have six gems surrounding an ornate decoration, almost like a mini mosaic depicting... something..."

Acheron then walked a bit closer to the oncoming ponies as he heard Draco mention the emblem.

"I was about to suggest that very thing actually," he said in response. "Your family hid it, I suppose you know where to find it?", Acheron asked, not wanting to seem like he knew way too much of the situation at hand. Pointless really, but worth a shot.

That one had more spiritual power within it. Pure unadulterated spirit energy," Draco said then looked at Acheron "Aye but vague references to the spot I think the shrine of the two alicorn princesses,"

Diamond sighed. *I don't think Draco is getting the point...i'm just gonna le- wait...what was that ? He cares ? Well of course he cares about me dying...he is a friend...but...does he care...more than most ?* She stared at Draco for a minute before shaking it off and looking into the big dark forest.

"Hmm... I suspect it'll be resonating some sort of energy, especially now that a pony of its creators' blood has entered its grounds... Perhaps the mages of the group, Diamond and I, could better lead the rest of us towards it?"

Acheron tried to think back when he ventured through the Everfree. He wasn't there for sightseeing, so he hadn't been paying much attention to any scenery. Despite this, he may have seen the silhouette of statues somewhere in the darkness...
