I think that the new emoticon on ":3" is really annoying. First of all, I use it a lot and don't want an image to show when I do the ":3" face. Second of all, it ruins my signature. Minor detail, but still... about the edit... I also use the ">_>" face a lot, and again, I don't want an image to show when I do that.

The one on ">_>" could be changed to ":annoyed:" and the one on ":3" could be changed to "" or something like that....

Split your topic into its' own, as it'll receive attention easier for fast responses :3

As I said in PM, I'm indifferent to if we use emotes VS words with these two, but if enough people lean one way or the other, then it makes sense to cater more to one over the other.

Isn't there the option to disable emoticons in a post? :3

There is. But the thing is, I like every other emoticon... except for these two. I use ":3" and ">_>" a lot in posts, but I don't want them to show as images. So my suggestion is to change the key combination to what I said in my post.

The one on ">_>" could be changed to ":annoyed:" and the one on ":3" could be changed to "" or something like that....

Wait, was this actually implemented?

:3

I think I'd like it more if we did do something like . I like ":3" a lot more than :3

Also, I always thought ">_>" was for when you did something embarrassing, and you were looking away >_>

I think a poll for something like this is fairly needed. Would you like to make it, RKA? Just something like:

Poll question: 'emote VS words for ">_>" and ":3" emotes'

Answer 1: Emotes

Answer 2: Words

You can always put alt+0173 in the middle of your cat faces, like this :3

This particular alt character is pretty much invisible and doesn't count toward your character counter, so it can be quite nifty when you want to post something that you don't want it to be automatically converted into something else, like this >> :muffins: :derp: >_> [url=http://nooooooooooooooo.com]yesssssssssss[/url]

At the end of day, most people don't even need to write out emotes, they use the drop down emote menu in the post box, so this is almost irrelevant anyway. The past three emoticons of Derpy and Discord have been words, as well, so I guess there's no harm in making the Apple Bloom one a word as well.

I'm finding myself less enthused about changing the irritated Dash one, though. No one has ever had a problem with that one till now. The face was changed to face from one direction to the other due to some people not liking how they didn't match, and now suddenly some other people can't deal with it. I think that one is fine, personally.

Now I made this emoticon and I have to say that I agree with RKA. I'd much rather prefer to type img-1369822-1-UNZJLhS.png : catface: (hey it's changed, awesome) than :3 if I want the AB face.

I think I read that topic where it was suggested... if I remember correctly, some people were against it as well...

There are people who are for and against everything, on everything :3 Weighing the points, I saw the point in altering the AB one, but I'm not so much, with this.

I guess that's true... but considering the poll I did, I suppose it'd be better to change ">_>" as well. ;)

Again, not seeing the point, sorry. I feel if others find that particular one to be a huge problem as well, it'll be brought up again, and discussed once more. I almost feel like a majority of people's votes were aimed at the Apple Bloom emote and not so much the second one, taking into account all the whiny status updates I noticed about the AB emote prior to this thread xD

Ehh, fair enough... guess I'll just have to figure out a way to do the ">_>" then...

I'm stll waiting for the option to disable the emoticons by default, right now I have to go into full editor mode, disable them manually every time I post. While i know older versions of IPB had options to disable the use of emoticons and even signature by default.

I don't really use the emotions the site has. I prefer using the ones over at Pony Central because I just like them more in general.mlp-spsrsly.png

However, since we're talking about words or emotions, I prefer words. People doing img-1379355-5-xtWXQl1.png everywhere is kind of annoying, and one of my pet peeves is that img-1369822-1-UNZJLhS.png looks weird without the mane. Very weird. The bow just seems dis-attached  and I think a like is missing on the left side of the bow.

But I respect the staff's decisions. I normally turn emotions off.
