Why don't I see more MLP:FiM schoolbags?

Whenever I see young girls on their way to school, there are two cartoons that predominate their backpacks:  Dora the Explorer and Disney Princesses.  This is really the vast majority of themed bags I see out there, two thirds easily.  10 or so years ago, I saw a lot more children with Powerpuff Girls bags than I do with MLP:FiM accessories today.  In fact, I've only seen one child with an MLP bag since I saw that college student with that bootleg or fan modified backpack over a month ago.

Really, if MLP:FiM is as popular with kids as it is with Bronies, shouldn't I be seeing more merchandise in my travels?

At least I see a decent amount of Transformers bags being taken to school by the boys.

Well, I think Wal-Mart or Target had an MLP backpack. And I know Hot Topic has the Derpy and Rainbow Dash reversible backpack. WeLoveFine has bags for sale, some of which I've seen my friends with. Maybe you just don't live in an area with a lot of Bronies?

I see where you're coming from. I've never, in my life, seen a little girl with a My Little Pony bag. I've never even seen them wearing a My Little Pony t-shirt, for that matter. It's always Disney Princesses. :P

I'm beginning to think that I'm more likely to run into an older fan sporting a shirt from welovefine than a little girl wearing a MLP shirt or bag.

I know My Little Pony is Hasbro's big toy-selling brand, but it actually doesn't seem to be very popular with little girls, to be honest - not in my area, anyway. I never see any kids looking at the pony toys in my local Walmart. (The blindbags are always gone, though, so I guess there must be at least one other brony in my area...one of these days maybe I'll run into them...) Little girls are always more interested in the Monster High and Lalaloopsy dolls.

It's a strange phenomenon.
