visual art Shading tips on a drawing i just did?

Hey so I just drew a picture of the plush that I just ordered and I want to add color. Problem is, all I have at my disposal is small tip crayola markers, and out of habit I did the drawing with the detail needed to make said plush look somewhat three dimensional. How does one go about coloring in a drawing with shading with markers, when said plush is predominantly black?

The drawing looks awesome. Maybe try shading around the borders of the pic. Pay especially attention to your reference pic, as it contains some of the guide shade places. Use various amounts of shade in certain places.

Specifically I'm meaning how should I go about not blending the little detail lines when I color it black? Im using felt tip markers which bleed badly. All i can think is to use gray around detail lines so that they still show or something. Also how goes the OC song? :3

Well, in the case of markers, go as lightly as possible, but clear enough so that the shade could come out smooth.

Btw, melody's coming well, but the lyrics are a bit difficult, but I found a way to make it work.

Its turning out okay. I feel inferior. I know I shouldnt but this is DEFINATELY not one of my best works. I beleive this to be one of them though: http://otakumouse94.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24
