@@Windbreaker,

Well most pony names come from phrases. Some are a but more nuanced than others. For instance, my name comes from the samurai saying, "the pen and sword, in equal accord." Swords are typically made of steel, so there you go! I say just look up a phrase or pun that has to do with writing or creation and off of that.

What about 'Aegis Dare?'

Comes from his personality, Cutie Mark, and a few inspirational quotes I looked up. And a thesaurus

Sounds good enough for me, but then again, I'm not in charge of the thread. Captain Chunky up there is. happy.png

so I made two similar artist-type characters with this advice. Which one do you like better?

Gustave is a world famous chef. He goes to Rapture in hopes of finding a culture that would better appreciate and understand his work. He grows bored using the same tired ingredients again and again and begins "experimenting". The amount of patrons at his restaurant dwindles as his food grows more and more disgusting. Gustave, desperate for attention, begins kidnapping ponies and forcing them to eat his deadly concoctions, claiming that he's "just trying to show them true art."

or

Gustave is a famous comedian but critics claim his humor is to "crude" (Remember, this is the 1940's). He moves to Rapture in hopes of finding people who will appreciate his comedy. His prediction proves correct and he opens a very popular comedy club in Rapture. When the civil war hits, though, no one shows up for his performances anymore. Gustave begins kidnapping ponies and forcing them to listen to his jokes. Those who don't "get" his jokes (they stopped making sense at this point) are killed in comedic ways (i.e. crushed by dropped piano, blown up in a shower of fireworks, etc.)

Hmmm I'm really split. I guess it comes down to if you want to stay true to Gustave as seen or add something to Rapture that wasn't there in the original. (To my knowledge.) If I may, the comdedian character seems like it would be suited to somepony like a Pinkie Pie expy. Gustave just doesn't seem very (intentionally) comedic. You could still insert the comedian as a pseudo NPC but you'd have to roll that over the GM.

Otherwise, make the character a griffon but otherwise unconnected to Gustave.

Although I REALLY like the way you made him the mad chef! With all that taking of a . . . B) captive audience.

YEEEEEEEEAH!

That pun...it hurts...

In all seriousness, though, I also find myself torn between the two OCs; there's just so much potential with each of them. Gustave the chef would be great for the more "innocent" character. He's not trying to kill any pony, it just happens. He's lost sight of what cooking is (making delicious new food) and now has a compulsion to subvert expectations and push limits. The less ponies like his food, the more "original" he gets with his recipes, desperate to find something unique.

Gustave the comedian, on the other hand, is full-on psychopath. When the civil war took his audience, he blamed it on himself and began to obsess about regaining the spotlight. His obsession stems less from "I need to be unique" and more from "I need to feel talented again". I'm thinking about giving him another personality (the similarity to Pinkamena is unintentional, by the way) that would violently chastise him for not being funny or when his kidnapped "audience" doesn't laugh at his jokes (which, as has been established, don't make much sense anymore). I like the freedom this character provides, since he's not shaped after Sander Cohen.

If you can't tell, this post was me thinking out loud. I desperately wish I could use both OCs, but I'd probably die from stress. Maybe someone can adopt the one I don't use?

Just a tip for the Little Fillies dialogue. The Little Sisters search for Adam and call it "angels." Since we are kind of taking our cue from the Cutie-Mark Crusaders, and POX creates new cutie marks. Why not just make the Little Fillies all "crusaders?"
