@,@@Count Paradox@@Dawn Stripes,

"Thank you." Feather turned to give the Sargent a brief nod before gliding over to hover anxiously above Frost Bite and Paradox. She couldn't believe how closely she and Frost may have come to accidentally leaving somepony frozen in a lake- then, when the ice melted Dox could have been carried away by the current; unlike Ocean, he was, as far as Feather knew, perfectly capable of drowning....

At least he wasn't trapped underneath the ice. The voice in her head commented. The worse he'll feel is cold and wet.

He could have hypothermia. Feather shot back, watching Frost Bite break up the ice around Paradox. In spite of her worry, a part of Feather couldn't help but smile grimly at Frost Bite's joke about slippery ice; she agreed that the mood could do with some lightening.

"Well look at that Frost, you've found a snowpony!" Then, switching to completely business, she grunted at Frost Bite, "take his front please." And, casually tugging on a muzzleful of Paradox's tail, she began to hoist his back end out of the water, quite forgetting that she wanted this stallion to like her.

Dox nodded, putting a hoof over her shoulder for stability. He smiled a little as Feather flew over, but rolled his eyes as she made the snowpony joke. When she pulled up on his tail, he gasped and shouted, "Hey, that's still attatch, y'know!" He sighed, then thought of a devious way to get her back and maybe see a bit of embarrassment from Frost in the process. He snuggled into her, like trying to share her body warmth, even though she was barely warmer than the lake, and said, "Thanks for saving me."

@,

"As you wish, my lady."

Steel felt a fool, not for the first time in front of Ocean. Constantly he misread what it was she wanted or desired, even back to what she wanted from her bags when they first met. Perhaps it was not his place to be at her side, but in her shadow. Acting as silent guardian, instead of some showy defender.

Ocean sighed. "Steel. I like that you are trying to protect me...but I feel like you are working for me rather than working with me, and I would much prefer the latter." She said. She was feeling slightly awkward with how Steel was addressing her...she liked him...allot. But she would prefer "Ocean" Rather than "My Lady"...

@,

That's when Ocean noticed Moon. A smiled spread across her lips and she turned to face the mare but winced as her wounds were still quite tender. "You too? Thank Celestia I wasn't just seeing things." She whispered back, still smiling.

Iron Hoof stood up tall and addressed the group. "Alright. Everypony get some shuteye. I want well rested ponies for the trek tomorrow." He said.

@@@Count Paradox,

(OOC: Oooh, dem's fightin' tactics, Count! tongue.png).

A tiny, unintentional squeak escaped Feather - who was still holding onto Dox's tail - when Paradox cuddled into Frost Bite.

Do you think maybe he's just this friendly to everypony?

Mmm, that or maybe he's just a git. But whatever, it doesn't bother me.

Feather was too wrapped up in her thoughts to notice that she was still tugging on Paradox's tail.

I mean - Feather yanked harder on the stallion's tail - it's like I said, I only just met him - yank - this morning. Why would it - yank - bother me if he hugs some other mare? - yank - It doesn't bother me - an especially hard tug - At - yank - all.

(( OOC- I just looked back at the 1st page of our OOC topic, and I was wondering if you can update it with the people who are gone and who are staying. I'm generally confused right now because of it ))

Upon hearing Ocean reply, Moon was quite shocked that now both of them had seen a glance of the Atlanteans. But, since it was the leader who was washed away from the waterfall, she should have landed into another cave with some beings in it.

A short moment later, Iron Hoof announced the time for some shuteye. Even though Moon wasn't tired, her mind was extremely exhausted from all the thoughts going through her head.

So she quickly gave a nod towards Ocean and walked toward the edge of the lake, where she dropped her bag and lied down at.

@@Count Paradox@@Ano170,

Instinctively wrapping one of her forelegs around Paradox as he hugged up to her, she couldn't help but smile. "I...uh...no worries, I mean, it's my fault in the first place" she slightly turned her head to one side and let it hang a little "all of this is my fault..."

He smiled when he heard Feather give out a little squeak and chuckled when suddenly he felt her start yanking harder and harder. "Ow. Hey! OW! Feather, calm down with the tail!" He sighed and shook his head and turned to Frost. "Ah, it's ok, as long as you feel better, then I'm fine."

(I really do apologise, but I just have to wind Feather up some myself here, can't really resist)

"I...thanks" she smiled again and gave him a quick hug, until Feather tugged and pulled him back a little, causing Frostbite to stumble forward with him. Letting go of him and taking a step back, she let out a small giggle and a few words "Looks like she's got you covered from here." Leaning in to his side, she whispered "Seriously though...thanks, you could have just left me there, but you didn't - you actually tried to help. Means a lot to me you know." Ending her final statement by kissing him on the cheek.

"Now! If you'll excuse me, I do believe I owe someone...something" she said as she started walking back towards the shore where Giant was standing.

(OOC: Honestly? I enjoy seeing poor Feather being messed with. XD Schadenfreude, that's the word, right? Getting to write her response just makes it better - so long as I remember to keep her in character, of course. Besides, it keeps things interesting on the journey to Atlantis. :))

The sound of Paradox yelling snapped Feather back to reality from her thoughts. She glanced down, and saw that she had practically ripped Dox's tail out of its socket. Sheepishly, she let go, muttering an embarrassed apology.

Apparently, however, Paradox was too busy getting a peck on the cheek from Frost Bite to hear. A wave of angry red heat washed over Feather.

She's only thanking him. The voice scolded her gently. She did just save him, after all.

Yeah, Feather agreed, growing less angry but now feeling bitter. That's the thing - she saved his life. I wasn't able to do much for Frost Bite earlier either, come to think of it. I hate feeling so useless - I just hope we come across some hurdle than can be talked to death; that's my specialty. Maybe if the Atlanteans turn out to be hostile I could recite some of the poems I wrote after that filly in highschool rejected me...

What awful creature deserves that?

Looking up, Feather saw that Frost Bite was heading back across the ice towards the Sargent. Paradox was still on the ice.

"Need any help?" she asked him rather flatly.

Ocean let out another exasperated sigh. "That's exactly what I don't want. I'm not better than anypony. I'm just a mare with a problem. I'm also tired so I'm going to bed. Goodnight..." She said, wanting to get off the subject.

She lay back on the roll up mattress and pulled a small blanket from her bag. She threw it over herself before she let the tears escape...everypony knew...and everypony thought her different. She was different, but she wanted to be normal. Steel thought her more than a normal pony...everypony else thought her cursed or bad.

She closed her eyes and tried to get some sleep.

Steel could hear her weep. His heart screamed that he go to comfort her. Steel had let his awe of her overcome his judgment. She was not a Princess to be worshipped. Right now, she was just a young mare who needed to be seen as such.

"Ocean?" He said poking his head into her tent. "I'm not looking!" He prefaced, indeed focusing his gaze off to the side. "You may not want to be seen as anything better by me, but I will not forsake my honor by treating you like a stallion. My eyes are not yours unless you permit them." He took a deep breath. "Listen, my behavior towards you, it . . . hasn't entirely been reverence or duty that compelled me. You just captivated me as a person. Your personality, your history, your intelligence, your . . . beauty." He admitted. "You are my charge, Ocean. You know that I am a throwback to an older era; obeslete, a joke. Just . . . know that I see you as nothing more than a beautiful mare from Trottinghan who owns a potion shop. . . . Goodnight." His piece said, he turned to leave.

Ocean was facing away from the tent entrance. She didn't roll over to look at Steel...to be honest she hoped he would just assume that she was asleep...but then he started to speak.

She listened and stayed quiet until he finished...she spoke, barely audible. "Thank you, Steel." She said, still with her back to the tent entrance.

Part of her hoped he hadn't heard her...but a bigger part of her hoped he would come cuddle. Either way she just needed sleep.

He wiped his leg across his lips to dry them completely, then kissed her upon the cheek. "Goodnight Ocean."

"Hey sarge, cap..." Frostbite called as she approached. "Just wanted to uh...to uh...hmm" it didn't take her long to get to where he was standing, and she continued walking to his side and sat down, facing the camp while he faced the lake. "Cap...sarge. Giant, I...I'm..." A few, almost crystalline tears dripped from her cheeks and landed on the ground at her feet as she covered her eyes with her foreleg.

@,

Giant leaned back and then scrutinized the unicorn, giving a couple exploratory sniffs. "Frost?" he said, in his usual businesslike tone. "What's up with you?"

He thought back--as best as he could tell, he'd never seen the unicorn cry before. Maybe any kind of mood swing in general shouldn't be unusual for this mare, but still. It was--unnerving. Not to mention the tears seemed to have a habit of freezing before they hit the ground. That was a touch on the unique side.

"What's wrong with me..?" she asked flatly, but in a tone that spoke a different meaning. She wasn't so much asking what was wrong with her, as she was asking Giant to tell her what she already knew. "I...I can't...think! The fire, the ice, the water, the sub...Lila, and the others...Paradox and...a-and..." She started off quietly, but quickly raised her voice to a certain point where she was...almost shouting, but quietly - like she wanted to be heard but daren't speak up. As she finished her sentence she buried her head in her legs and started shaking her head as if she was trying to drive out her thoughts. "I'm n-not w-who you th-think I am, sarge."

(OOC: Oh, gosh. To me, that's pretty basic. We've been interacting for a long time, so let's see what we can do with this character dynamic...)

The teal mare was really losing it. This was something new. Giant had seen rookies go crazy when missions went sour, and, admittedly, things had really sour the past few days, but everpony else had managed to hold up surprisingly well. As if the crew had been well-chosen. An atmosphere of panic did not prevail, and Frostbite was the only one acting this way.

But he didn't express the concern in his head. Instead, he raised a hairy eyebrow and said, "That's quite an assertion there. What 'xactly do you say I think you are, Frost?"

"I'm n-not stupid, you n-know" she replied with her head still buried in her hooves, still crying to herself. "I know you th-think i'm, I know you think i'm c-crazy! And I know you th-think i'm l-lazy a-and s-stuck up! But i'm n-not okay!" Tightening her legs around her head, almost like she wanted to force herself into the dirt. She stayed there for a good minute or two, just softly crying to herself before she managed to drag herself into a sitting position, hanging her head down with her mane infront of her eyes, covering her face from view. "You remember what you s-said to me earlier sarge? Back of the trucks, when y-you where hiding?"

Despite her state, Giant granted that the mare wasn't totally off. He thought she was crazy. Lazy, maybe a little. Stuck up, she had a hard time seeing. She didn't really seem to have any sense of personal dignity. And...the way she lost it over everything was starting to make him feel bad.

Giant responded in a less than sensitive manner, by pulling her head and pulling her behind said trucks, where he wouldn't be seen in the company of such sobbing, involved in this kind of conversation, while muttering, "No. No, not really, I don't."

Star Keeper was left in a rather odd mood. Steel had given up his weapons in reluctance, only Ocean's council convincing him to part with them. Although Star had seen far better reason in his opinion Steel was far too stubborn. Ocean on the other hoof...  she was certainly something different, something he hadn't come across before He almost found her fascinating, but decided to think nothing more of it. It was getting far to late for that kind of mumbo jumbo. If he was to keep his head up tomorrow he needed his sleep...

@@Dawn Stripes,

Frostbite didn't really react to being pulled around, she just sort of went with it.

"'Lets talk about you Frostbite - you don't seem afraid of anything', that's what you said" she stated as she sat up against the truck, turning her head to face the lake. "Truth is, I AM afraid, of everything. This whole situation...we're going to die down here sarge. There's several thousand feet of water between us and the sun, we don't know anything about where we're going, our supplies are limited to what we have down here. She sighed, slowly climbing up to her feet to stand properly, looking up at Giant. "But, anyway - this is me, here, now, what you see."
