Why are the EG haters being oppressed

Optimism is a great trait to have (really) but blind optimism is bad.  Pretending everything is always going to be okay, even in the darkest of hours doesn't really accomplish anything.  I can appreciate that you all (Rockin + Gears + Spark + flutter ect.) won't turn your back on the fandom no matter what.  (Honestly)  We need people like you.  All that I'm saying is that, I'm a bit of a realist and perfectionist.  If I think that something isn't going to be good, I'm going to voice my opinion and hope it makes a difference.

(Keep the thread open, its important that we discuss this)

And that's all fine in dandy, IMO.  People should be able to say "I do not like this; here's why based on what we've seen so far... etc. etc."  But, don't go around saying people that disagree with you, or are at least waiting it out, are incorrect or in denial?  That's absurd.

@@TheMarkz0ne,

If you have an actual legitimate problem with Equestria Girls's existence, fine. I myself am a bit bummed out that this isn't an actual FiM movie.

But don't act like it's the bucking apocalypse and end of the show when we're still a month away from its release. For all we know, this won't be the piece of shit you and a lot of people think it will. I'm not saying it won't be, but even if it is, it's incredibly disrespectful to the guys who've been making this show to criticize them for something you haven't even seen yet, and it's irritating to everyone else when people like you spew your vitriol and "leaving the fandom" BS.

Either way, respect other people's opinions and decisions to stay optimistic. Just because you're quick to turn on the show doesn't mean everyone else is.

So what you're saying is that if someone disagrees with your opinion, then they're wrong, and just being blindly optimistic. That's a nice attitude to bring to a civil discussion... :/

Yeah but they're basically talking down to little girls like they're stupid. I mean really shoving the american dream propaganda down their fragile minds. I mean it's ok for Transformers in 1986 to be dark for 8 year old boys. But not for MLP

I don't think they're talking down to them and they aren't shoving anything anywhere. Hasbro sees an opportunity to expand their franchise through a well established dream that girls at that age have, prom, dances, etc. They aren't forcing anything into anyone's minds that isn't already there to begin with, this is the umpteenth teenage high school drama movie ever made, this doesn't change anything. I don't like the fact that this is how little girls think today, but it is what is. Now I can cry foul that they've made characters from my favorite cartoon a part of it or I can be intrigued on how they might put a different spin on things. I have chosen to do the latter.

I never explicitly stated that these people with those opinions were "blindly optimistic."  It was merely a warning that blind optimism is a problem, and I don't want it to evolve to that stage.

Fine. But some people (not you) are overreacting to this with the same old "I'm leaving the fandom because there's something I don't like" bit that surrounded Twilight becoming an alicorn.

Equestria Girls, as far as we know, is a spinoff, one-shot movie. Regardless of whether it's good or not, it won't be the series-destroying implosion some people say it will be. If it ends up being an absolute black hole of humanity that affects the quality of the show, then we can all complain.

But as of right now, those people are not arguing a legitimate point.

They are not complaining, they are whining.

And if they (not you in particular, because I'm assuming you aren't doing this) are going to attack the opinions of others who disagree with them, then they can show themselves out.

I agree.  There's been so much money poured into the movie, there's no way we can prevent it from happening.  The best thing we can do right now is just wait for it and hope its not complete donkey shit.

If it is complete donkey shit...

Ill just have to become a old-school brony that reveres old content.  It will kind of be sad, but thats what I gotta do

nonetheless, I'm still going to tell people that I predict it will suck.  That's my opinion.

But I shouldn't have to adapt to whatever changes I disagree with otherwise.  I can be a MLP-conservative.

I have to say though: whether EQG is tolerable or terrible in the end, you should not automatically assume you will have to turn into an "old-school Brony."  That's implying that all future non-EQG content will all-of-a-sudden be crap due to the movie, which I do not believe will happen.  Maybe I'm just being one of those overly-optimistic people here wink.png , but I just do not see this movie having an adverse effect on all 26 episodes of season 4.

I'm afraid of it becoming canon in the lore/story.  Why couldn't they have just made it a parallel universe or something?  If they start referencing it in season 4, (or worse..  If the show actually just becomes what has happened in the movie) then I'm done with future content.  Ill deal with Twilight being an Alicorn if I can have the old show stay the same otherwise.

I really hope it isn't. Because it can ruin the series. This stems back to the reason. Why personify animals....if you're going to make them human. It defeats the purpose of the show. Making them human kills the meaning of the show. It also kills their character

It's beyond that. Any high school oriented movie is bland and lifeless. it's always about overcoming a bully and they use outdated tropes and slang to try and sound cool.

I seriously only wanted to post in this thread just for the sole purpose of pointing out that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is the greatest movie ever with a high school setting and it was totally not about overcoming a bully.So...hah.Take that. derpy_emoticon2.png

Anyhow,I guess I shall my two cents to the subject at hand since I decided to post in this thread...

Equestria Girls is just a movie. No more,no less.If it tanks,it tanks. If it doesn't,great. But some of the overreactions I've seen about it are ridiculous. At the end of the day guys,it's just going to be an animated movie about a pony going to a human high school. Are you seriously going to waste your time arguing about whether it was good or not?Debating about that is one thing, but to senselessly go "YARR DIS MOVIE HERE BE CAUSIN' A MUTINY IN DIS FANDOM HERE YARRR" and not adding any sort of constructive criticism is just as bad as viciously defending it and going "YARR DE MOVIE AIN'T EVEN OUT YET,YE SCALLYWAG!TO DE PLANK WITH YE YARR!".An opinion is just going to be an opinion,no need to change it or anything.Just simply respect it and move on.

High school settings can work. I love Ferris's Day Off. But it doesn't work for certain media. I'm sorry. But the ponies being human in an american high school is jumping the shark

Oh.Totally thought you meant any sort of movie with a high school setting just sucks completely and had the urge to point out the gem that is Ferris Bueller's Day Off.My bad. unsure.png

Anyways,I can see how most people can come to that conclusion of thinking for Equestria Girls. Not gonna lie here,it's hard for me to not think of a bad Pony-In-Earth fanfic when I read the plot premise, but I do like to keep a fairly optimistic outlook.Who knows,it might be amazing,or it might not be.Either way,it's just a movie in the end.Not gonna cry over it,y'know?

Everything we've been told "officially" so far states that this will not affect the show, I guess take that for what you will.

But I believe it will not.  The whole plot that we know of so far is pretty one-shot and status-quo.  Someone steal's Twilight's crown, she goes into another dimension to get it back, gets it back and returns to original universe.  Crown back, status quo restored.

Maybe a reference in the beginning of the season we can potentially ignore, but I don't see anything in the plot so far that would be cannon-shaking.  Just the normal something stolen, got it back plot.

But if it is...   This means war!  There needs to be "flood Hasbro's Emails" day so we can all voice our opinions in harmony!  I'm surprised nothing like that has been done in the past.

This is my first time going through the Equestria Girls subforum, and... man, I thought the Twilicorn subforum was opinionated...

I personally don't have a really strong opinion on this issue (at best a very, *very* mild interest) but I can certainly see that emotions are running high here.  I think the best thing to do is for everyone to just take a step back from this whole issue for a little while.  Not to "silence" anyone's opinion, but just to let the issue settle down a little bit.  That way everyone can have their opinions, express them, but not be at each others throats, you know?

Maybe it will suck.  In fact, I could sort of understand where people who hold that opinion are coming from.  But I think we could still have our opinions without letting things get so heated.

No, I take the blame.  It really was my fault for jumping too quickly on the defensive about this.  Its only because I've had my negative opinions on EQG shot down by overly optimistic supporters too many times today.  I apologize.

My problem isn't as much what will occur in the movie, but more of what image the movie will give of the brony community.  (Which... I guess is related to what the movie is like) But based off of what we have seen and heard (trailers ect.) the movie looks like a cheesy teenage drama that doesn't live up to what we enjoyed about MLP.

On a second note...

Man.  Just went through the thread again...  People are really hating on TheMarkZ0ne for stating his opinion.  sad.png

What happened to accepting peoples views?

Me and my friend...Who I might add you I wasn't arguing with. I just simply told him I didn't like the EG trailer and I am also not going to like the movie because of it's horrendous premise.

Pretty much I just want to know why the defenders of EG are so dam defensive. No one on the MLP forums is acting like this. But my FB friends and people on Equestria Daily are really pissed

If it makes you feel batter I defend those who are disliking this film (I don't like to use hate since it sounds too harsh for me, but whatever works for you).

Look people if someone doesn't like something then fine. Who said we had to like everything that had to come out this series.

You think "every" Star Wars fans liked the Christmas special?

No

You think "every" turtle fan liked the Third Ninja Turtle film?

No

(also I emphasized the word "every" as I means everyone).

Look of you don't like the film go ahead.

I don't have any control per your taste and preferences.

And that's all it is, taste and preferences. Some people will like it, others won't.

If you don't like it go ahead and rant. If it makes you feel better go ahead.

All I ask though is that you try not to start fights. If people are hating on you ignore them, don't fuel their cause to defend anymore.

Me?

I'm neutral on this, yet I still respect the opinions of all.

Well, personally I think Equestria Girls are lame and it doesn't interest me at all. I mean why couldn't they make a really cool 3 hour long film about ponies with all the awesome characters and sweet songs? seriously? Well I know I'm not going to waste my time on it, instead Ill be watching all three seasons over and over again.
