Aegis pulled Poppy in close. "I'll be right behind you all the way out."

"I'm scared, Aegis."

"So am I..."

He gave her a quick kiss, then vaulted over the table. He spread his wings and rammed into the nearest shooter, striking him hard in the gut. The goal wasn't to kill, but incapacitate, though Aegis knew he could do serious damage easily. He spun around, swinging his left hindleg around in a powerful kick. A loud crunch and a scream of agony told him that he had just broken somepony's shoulder.

"Aegis!"

He dashed off in the direction of Poppy's scream, tackling a shooter to the ground and placing a hoof on his throat.

"You come here and disrupt a peaceful evening, then you go and murder innocent ponies for one griffon? I don't think your goals justify your actions." He hissed, his eyes filled with hatred. "You make me sick..."

((OOC: I hope that isn't too much. Also, do ponies have shoulders?))

Sidon howled in pain as a crossbow bolt stabbed into the flesh of his shoulder, the head sinking deep and lodging near his scapula.

Peaches shouted from a nearby table. "Sidon! Are you all right?"

He growled, seizing the shaft in his teeth and biting it in half. "Just peachy."

Rising up on his fore-hooves he bucked a nearby chair at his attacker. The chair collided with the stallion's midsection, shattering and sending him sprawling to the floor.

Misery certainly does love company, thought the wolf-pony. First the Parasentry attack, now this.

 

He had stepped outside a moment for a private word with Peaches and re-entered only seconds before the assault had been launched.

Sidon took a moment to take in his surroundings. Steel was currently cutting a bloody swath through the attackers, and Poppy was closeby Aegis, who was strangling another pony at the moment. He couldn't see Silver Heart anywhere though, which worried him.

"Peaches!" Sidon shouted to his friend, who looked over at him. "Stay there, I'm coming for you!"

"Yeah right! I haven't been in a bar fight in ages! You're on your own!" She gave a grin, then seized a rather heavy looking gin bottle and leaped over her table to join the fight.

The stallion rolled his eyes, "No sense of urgency that one." He tore off his dinner jacket and tossed it aside. Cracking his neck to either side he sprang into action, dashing around his cover and tackling the nearest pony, one of the crossbow stallions.

He snarled and latched his fangs onto the pony's throat, biting deep and severing his major arteries.

Chaos. That was what had descended upon Harmony. Amid the roars and screams and the strangled cries of the pony in front of him, Aegis struggled to find a thought of his own. There was too much noise...

 

He raised his head and let loose a cry of rage, then brought his hoof down, crushing the shooter's neck.

 

Then he realized what he had done...

 

"Aegis?"

 

"I-I killed him...I didn't mean to. I was just...so angry."

 

Poppy was torn between horror at the death around them, and pity for Aegis.

 

"Poppy, take Ms. Dot and Ms. Silver Heart, and get to the exit as fast as you can." Aegis said

 

"What about you?" Poppy asked.

 

"I'm going to hold them off as long as I can, then I'll get Mr. Accord out of there, if I can."

 

"Be safe, my love."

 

"You too."

 

Aegis rushed back into the fray, narrowly dodging Peaches' bottle weapon. "Hey, watch where you're swinging that! Peaches?"

Peaches looked around towards the voice, grinning as a familiar stallion's face came into view.

"Hey Aegis!" She shouted, bringing her improvised bludgeon down on another pony's head with an audible thud.

"Great party huh?"

Another attacker parted with several of his teeth as he was assaulted by her gin bottle. "I thought tonight was gonna be totally boring!"

A stallion with a cutie mark of a lightning bolt over his right eye was smote over the head by a mighty blow from Peaches, the bottle in her hoof shattering with the impact. "Boy was I wrong; I haven't had this much fun in ages!"

She reared up her back legs, pistoning them into a mare that was attempting to stab a hoof-long shard of ice into her neck and sending her flying across the room.

Marble arrived at his home in Cameron Suites. Amused by the knowledge that those simpletons at the party were going to be harassed by some angry janitors, Marble sat down, and picked up a book. He had stayed up this long, he was at least going to see the fireworks (or whatever those delinquents had planned). He could see the Kashmir Restaurant from his room (it was about a block away), and he had time to burn, so he started to read, occasionally glancing up to see what was going on. He sat for about 15 minutes before the party-crashers arrived. "Ah, here we go." He said to himself, setting down his book to watch more intently. Marble chuckled to himself briefly as he watched the panicked guests scramble as the bunny-masks shot some sort of projectiles at them. Man, those guests sure were panicked... too panicked. Marble squinted and leaned closer to the window to try to see what was going on better. Was that blood!? "Oh Celestia..." Marble muttered in realization. The crossbow he saw, their strategic approach, it all made more sense now, and it scared the living daylights out of Marble. He got up, and walked back and forth frantically. Should he go help them? "as if. I"m not risking my life for those assholes" he thought. But then again... he would be revered as a hero. Book sales, publishing deals, and all the potential money were too much for Marble to give up. He looked around his room for something he could bring. He settled on grabbing a kitchen knife, and he galloped back to the restaurant. This closer he got, the more scared he became. "no, keep going! Think of what's at stake!" He kept telling himself. He approached the party, knife in mouth, and ran toward a rebel from the back, the noise he was making masked by the chaos coming from the massacre. "This is it..." he thought to himself. Marble pounced on a stagler, knocking him over. The blade sticking out of the side of his mouth, he cocked his head to the side, and plunged the knife into the assailant. The knife made a sickening TWACK. Marble was disgusted by what he had just done. He let go of the handle, the rebel screaming in pain. He tried to get up, but Marble began to viciously stomp on the soldier. He had no idea what he was doing, he had forgotten why he came here in the heat of the moment, but adrenaline and fear kept him going. "Oh Celestia, why did I do this!?" the shortsighted author thought. He kept stomping on his victim. He couldn't stop now. One wrong move, and he was done for, another statistic from this disaster. 

THUD THUD THUD

Marble stopped. The crossbowpony was bleeding like mad, not moving, not breathing. A soldier a few paces further ahead looked back. "Ey, Citrus, are you- OY! WHAT'D YOU DO!?" The pony shouted at Marble. Marble began to back away, terrified. He began to run away, when suddenly twang TWACK! Marble stopped dead in his tracks, a burning pain coming from his chest. He looked down slowly. A crossbow bolt was lodged near his shoulder. His balance failed him, and he fell to his knees, and slumped over. He was loosing blood fast, and he was hyperventilating to boot. "No... Stay awake... sta..." He muttered, as he fell unconscious.

"Yeah. Some party..." Aegis said solemnly. "You'll have time to angst later, Aegis. Ponies need help in here!" He thought to himself angrily, launching a pony away with a well-placed kick. "Where's Mr. Darkstorm? Is he ok?"

 

He picked up a plank of wood and began to use it as an improvised weapon, though he found he was far more effective without one.

The three mares stopped for a breather outside the hallway, hopefully out of sight of the rebels. They came across a large pool of blood and a body in the middle.

 

"Is that pony still alive?" Poppy asked, though she knew it was most likely a stupid question.

 

"I highly doubt all that blood is his. There's a second body, which is most definitely dead." Silver Heart said.

 

Poppy carefully rolled the first body over, recognizing the face of the pony. Marble Stripe. Silver Heart leaned over and checked Marble Stripe's body.

 

"He's alive, but fading fast." Silver Heart said, her horn glowing as she performed a quick healing spell to help stablize Marble Stripe's condition. "That should do for now, but we need a safe place before I can do more for him."

 

Poppy lifted Marble Stripe onto her back. "Then we'll take him with us."

 

((OOC: My apologies if I haven't portrayed Silver Heart accurately. Also was unsure about what Dot would say in this situation.))

Silver Heart looked to the two mares beside her. "I think we may need to get Mr. Stripe to a clinic...or we'll anywhere that's safer than here. Can either of you think of some place close?"

I know he's strong, but I still can't help but worry about him."

I know he's strong, but I still can't help but worry about him."

Back at the party-turned-warzone...

"Steel? Sidon? Where the hay are you? We've got to go! Now!" Aegis yelled, though he doubted that he would be heard over the chaos.

He turned to Peaches. "Listen, I need you to find Poppy and the others and keep an eye on them. Can you do that for me?"

 

"Go ahead without me!" Steel said while in a blade bind with a wrench wielding revolutionary. "I have to get Galt to safety first. Besides, I can hold em off while you escape." He rolled into his back, sending the attacker flying over Steel, who cut him clean in Hal before recovering. "GO!" He ordered one las time before launching back into the fray.

 

As much as he was concerned for Zedotya and his friends, as well as trying to maintain Galt's safety, he had to admit he was having the time of his life with all this fighting.

Silver Heart looked at Marble Stripe's unconscious body and then at Poppy, "I think we shou-...no, let's find Aegis and the others. That sounds...like a good idea." She knew she should try to argue in favor of getting Marble to safety. Honestly though, she didn't want anything to do with the stallion. It was hard to find a reason to care about some stuck up snob.

 "Are you sure? I mean, I want to agree with you, but..." Poppy said, trying to maintain her composure. She had already seen too much death tonight, and she wasn't keen on seeing more. But what if Silver Heart had the right idea? Poppy turned to Dot. "What do you think we should do?"

Dot looked back to the direction Steel went.

 

"Steel wished that I return home, but I cannot just leave you alone. I say let us move quickly and embark, to the relative safety of Posey Park!" Dot motioned in a way that brokered no argument. Despite her intial fear of reprisal, being with Steel had fostered a commanding prescence within her . . . as well as something else.

Aegis turned to leave, albeit reluctantly. "Once I get the girls to safety, I'll come back for you. Just don't die in the meantime, ok?"

Aegis sped out of the room, scanning the enviroment for any sign of the three mares. With luck, he'd find them soon.

 

 

Meanwhile, Poppy and the others made their way to Posey Park. But their progress was slow, mostly due to the unconscious Marble Stripe. "Anypony think it's strange that we haven't run into any of those psychos since we left the party?"

 

Could Poppy be tempting fate?

"What's taking so long? We should have heard back by now."

 

"They might've lost him in the chaos. We knew this might happen, that's why we're waiting here. Am I right?"

 

A gang of revolutionaries waited in hiding, close to a possible escape route for Galt. It was difficult to tell how many of them there were, given the dull lighting; 3 or 4 at least. Perhaps simulating night wasn't the best idea ever.

 

"What if he had another escape route, huh? And our fearless leader just sits back while we do all the work..."

"He did as a matter of fact." The brigands looked up to see Steel on the ceiling. "And as he left, he specifically ordered me to curb your numbers a bit." Steel dropped from his perch, silencing the first attacker with his weapons. He turned to the rest of his foes. "Anypony else want to tango?"

"I can't say I'm sorry to see him dead. But... I wonder, Mr. Accord. What will you do if I told you that our leader suspected something like this would happen? You don't know which of us has seen him. How can you interrogate the dead, Mr. Accord?" The second revolutionary grinned, and for him to grin like that was either foolishness or courage. "In fact, this has all gone according to plan. Galt's escape, your coming here. And now your mare is heading to Posey Park with two others as we speak. I wonder what she will find there. And I would think twice about killing any of us, Mr Accord, if you value Zidotya's life!"

The three mares and the still unconscious Marble Stripe came to Posey Park. It seemed peaceful enough, but something didn't feel right to Poppy.

 

"Anypony else getting a funny feeling?" She asked, only to find a mysterious stallion appeared in front of her and immediately froze them in place, while leaving them able to speak, mostly.

 

"Don't scream. This will go much better for you if you cooperate with me. It goes without saying that you know of Steel Accord, Master Swordspony of Harmony and Galt's right hand. So, if you please, I'm taking Miss Zidotya with me." He said.

 

"So this is a kidnapping. Why?" Poppy asked, stangely calm given the situation.

 

"Because, once we have Miss Zidotya, and with some 'persuasion', Mr Accord will tell us exactly where Galt went."

 

"How contemptable... You'd threaten ponies into doing what you want?"

 

The stallion turned to find Aegis Dare standing right behind him. "You call me contemptable? I suggest you look to your own hooves. Tell me, why did you come here? To save these three mares and one stallion who spurns your company because they need it? Or is it to fulfill your own desire of being a hero? Don't deny it, it's in your eyes, and you've already told this city about your desires. Through the filter of literature..."

 

"That's not true!" Aegis yelled.

 

"But it is, Mr. Dare. You act like a cartoon hero, as if the fighting will stop once you beat the bad guy. Wake up and smell the ashes, Mr. Dare. The world isn't like that. And now, if you don't mind... I have work to do." The stallion grabbed Dot and vanished, leaving everyone confused and Aegis crushed.

True Shot dropped his crossbow, and rushed over to Citrus' motionless body. He was horrified at the damage that had been done, and he hoped against hope that his friend could still be alive. "Wake up..." he said in a shaky tone, shaking the body "Come on, wake up!" True Shot began to shout. His head tarted upward toward where the assailant had fallen. "What!?" he said aloud. To his bewilderment, the body was gone. True Shot quickly snached up his crossbow, and looked around frantically, aiming where he looked. There! He was being carried away on the back of somepony else, escaping in a crowd of fearful citizens. True Shot took aim, and fired into the crowd. Somepony fell, but not the one he was concerned with. He reloaded and fired again, and again he missed. He quickly glanced toward Kashmir to find that it had been evacuated, save for one swordspony. "good..." he thought, as he gave chase to the escaping crowd. He tailed the caravan from about thirty feet as it split at every turn. The group got smaller and smaller until it had shrunk to three mares, one stallion, and... him. The one who killed citrus. Luck stayed with him as they stopped in Posey Park in front of somepony else. "perfect" He breathed in, steading his aim. THWANG! He fired the crossbow as the air vacated his lungs.

Aegis couldn't believe it. He'd always stood up for others, and always thought it was for them. The thought that he did it for his own benefit had never crossed his mind.

 

"Do I really act like that?" He thought out loud.

 

Poppy stood next to Aegis, putting a hoof on his shoulder. "Does it matter what he said? You've always done what you thought was right, regardless of your doubts. It just depends on how you see it."

 

As if sensing danger, Aegis pushed Poppy aside, diving forwards as he did so. A sharp pain shot through his wing, and Aegis tried to keep from screaming. He turned to Silver Heart, almost afraid to look at his injury himself. "How bad is it?"

"What? What!?" True shot exclaimed in pure rage. He quickly notched and fired another bolt only for it to soar over their heads. Out of bolts, he ran to some bushes and started to decide what he'd do next.

Aegis pushed Poppy aside, diving forwards as he did so

Marble flinched as he slid off Poppy's back, onto the ground. He groaned as he slowly opened his eyes and tried to get his footing back, only to have a sharp pain soot through his shoulder, knocking him back down. "Ugh... What am I covered in?" he asked in a half-conscious stupor.

Silver Heart stared at the wound; the crossbow bolt had lodged itself less than an inch from a nerve that controls the wing. Silver Heart couldn’t risk removing the bolt without the right tools; if she tried to pull it out with her magic she risked damaging the nerves. She forced a sigh of relief and smiled at Aegis, “It’s nothing to worry about. It’s too dangerous to do anything about it here, I’m afraid you’re going to have to endure the pain for a little while longer. To properly remove the bolt we’ll either need to get to a clinic or back to my home. Just…try not to move your wing much, alright?“

 

Silver Heart looked in the direction the bolt had come from, whoever had fired it, was hiding now. A faint groan caught her attention, the stuck-up pony from earlier had regained consciousness. Silver Heart took another glance around the park before speaking, “How are you feeling?”

Snowy Fields stood in an alley as he watched a unicorn splicer appear before some ponies in the park. The unicorn splicer stood in front of them, more than likely giving the same longwinded monologue that he had practiced aloud three times while waiting for the mares to approach the park. It seemed the idiot had actually found the correct group by himself. Snowy watched for a few more moments.

 

A Pegasus stallion had approached the splicer from behind. Snowy smiled, he hoped that the Pegasus would attack the splice; he didn’t expect the Pegasus to win, but it would be amusing. A light blue glow surrounded Snowy’s horn as he cast a spell so he could listen to their fight. However, much to Snowy’s disappointment the splicer apparently talked the Pegasus into submission before teleporting away with the Zebra. The telltale sound and glow of Unicorn magic came from behind him.

 

Snowy turned around to find the unicorn splicer and a completely frozen zebra in front of the others. The splicer turned to Snowy dropping all the composure he had shown moments ago, “Hey, why didn’t you help me when Aegis snuck up on me? He could have killed me!” Snowy Fields stared at the splicer with a look that told him that he was an idiot for even asking such a question. When Snowy didn’t respond the splicer stamped his hoof on the ground in an attempt to threaten Snowy into answering. “Well? Answer me damn it!”

 

Snowy Fields sighed, “Because I honestly could not care less what happens to you lot. You’re all weak; you rely on having Zebra magic to strengthen you. You think that your new talents make you better than other ponies. Honestly, you’re more worthless than those barbaric Griffins and Diamond Dogs. I’m only with you to learn where Galt is headed so that I can kill him. After that I’ll erase every single splicer here.”

 

The splicer glared at Snowy, who returned his look with passive disinterest. “How stupid are you,” the unicorn splicer said, more a statement than a question. “Do you really think you could kill all of us? Let alone the four of us.”

 

Snowy smiled, “You’re mistaken. There’s only one of you.” Snowy corrected, “Look around. I froze your friends quite some time ago. If you act fast you might still be able to save them.”

 

The splicer looked behind him at his friends; sure enough they had been frozen solid. “W-what in Tartarus? You damn bastard!” The unicorn splicer turned back ready to charge Snowy.

 

“Hurry! Use your ice magic to save them, surely you if anypony here can save them it’s you.” Snowy feigned concern and urgency before breaking into a chuckle. Snowy walked past the unicorn until he was in the center of the three frozen splicers. “Oh wait…you took too long.” Before the unicorn could act, Snowy Fields cast a spell. The spell produced a wave of force in all directions.

 

The unicorn splicer could only watch as his three friends shattered before he was thrown backward. The moment he landed he charged in Snowy’s direction. The last thing he saw was a Snowy thrusting a spear made of ice in his direction.

 

Snowy looked in Zidotska’s direction the zebra was still frozen. He walked over to her and teleported the two of them into the middle of the group.

Aegis winced as he got to his feet. He silently berated himself, but at least Poppy was ok. "Guess I had this coming... Everypony else ok?"

 

"Yeah. Mr Stripe is waking up, too." Poppy said. "How badly does that hurt?"

 

"It's pure agony. Whoever fired the arrow is no amateur." Aegis said, glancing at the arrow embedded in his wing. "That's not gonna heal up so easy. I'd wager that I'm grounded for a while."

 

Poppy threw her forelegs around Aegis, prompting a pained expression from the Pegasus. "Promise me you won't go trying to get yourself killed."

 

"I promise. Just one thing, though."

 

"What is it?"

 

"Why didn't the shooter kill me? Unless I wasn't his target..."

"How are you feeling?"

"Why do you want to know?" Marble asked, groggily.

[response here, try to mention that she's a nurse]  

"Oh, you are?" He asked rhetorically. "Uh... this leg is numb from the shoulder down. You can fix that, right?"

 

"Whoever fired the arrow is no amateur."

"Oh, well, the sure-shot that shot me did so from a  whopping five hooves away. A real sharpshooter he is. Ohh, quick, sign this star up for the Gryphon Guard, he's a real talent." Marble sneered.

"Once again, Mr Stripe, your charm knows no bounds." Aegis replied sarcastically. He turned serious and glared at Marble. "Just shut it. You're a right pain in the flank, and I have no patience for your tiresome comments. Just be glad you're alive and leave it at that..."

 

Poppy noticed a strange unicorn standing in the middle of the group, but somehow, nopony else had seen him. "Tell me everypony else can see this guy standing there. Aegis? You can see him too, right?"

 

Aegis turned and saw the unicorn, and Dot right beside him. "Yeah. I see him." He directly addressed the unicorn. "But what do you want?"
