Poppy stared at the broken unicorn horn, terror clear in her eyes. Without thinking, she moved closer to Silver Heart, trying to suppress an urge to scream. It came out as a dull, high-pitched whine instead.

 

"Poppy?" Aegis asked, doubling around to check on her. "What's wrong?"

 

"I'm scared, Aegis. Scared, tired and worried about you, Silver and Mr Stripe. I want to go home." Poppy said. She was almost on the verge of tears.

 

"We will. Because we're leaving this city." Aegis said.

Silver Heart stared at the scattered remains surrojnding them. Only coming back to reality when Poppy made an odd noise next to her. Silver Heart moved closer to the horrified mare to try to comfort her.

Steel brought Dot in and payed her down on the table. She ha thawed but she was still shivering. Steel threw a heavy blanket over her and kissed her quivering lips; trying to breathe warmth into her body.

 

"S-S-Steel . . . " She shuddered weakly.

 

"No! Don't speak my love. Conserve your body heat." He looked to his friends. "Does anypony here know how to treat hypothermia?"

(OOC: I'm gonna assume Zidotska thawed out in the alley. Also this probably isn't sound medical advice.)

 

Silver Heart looked at Zidotska from where she was comforting Poppy, "I-I think she should be fine. She's most likely suffering from a mild case of hypothermia. It will be best to use passive warming to keep her safe. In other words let her body use its own internal heat to get her body back to normal temperatures."

"Thanks, Silver." Poppy said softly, while Aegis left her in Silver Heart's care. He went up to Snowy.

 

"Not that I'm ungrateful for you saving our friend, why was this brutality necessary? They could have been interrogated for information about their leader." Aegis said. He didn't know why, but the thought of upsetting Snowy Fields seemed like a very bad idea

 

"How much further to the Hospital?" Poppy asked. She indicated Dot and Marble Stripe.

 

Aegis thought for a moment. "Ten, fifteen minutes, maybe?" He turned back to Snowy. "If it's acceptable, we'll talk on the way."

Snowy shrugged and followed walked next to Aegis. "I already know everything I needed to. Their leader is a self-righteous bastard that calls himself Praetoerion. He tends to be overdramatic and make overly-complicated plans."

 

"Anyway, Praetoerion isn't important for now. As for my lack of restraint with the splicers themselves I thought their pathetic excuse for ice magic was an insult. I thought it wise to end their lives with a demonstration of true ice magic. That way they could die knowing that even after turning to artificial means of bettering themselves they still weren't worth a damn. It's a pity that they couldn't even handle the basics, I would have loved to show them what I'm capable of."

"I guess I can't argue with that." Aegis said, catching a glimpse of the terrorist who took Dot impaled on a nearby wall with a spear of ice stuck through his head. "You have an interesting way of sending a message, Mr Fields."

 

Poppy shut her eyes tight, relying on Silver Heart to guide her until they got to their destination. "Sorry to put you through this, Silver."

 

Aegis silently berated himself for not being at his fiance's side. "Not much further now, everypony. Hang in there."

"I guess I can't argue with that." Aegis said, catching a glimpse of the terrorist who took Dot impaled on a nearby wall with a spear of ice stuck through his head. "You have an interesting way of sending a message, Mr Fields."

 

Poppy shut her eyes tight, relying on Silver Heart to guide her until they got to their destination. "Sorry to put you through this, Silver."

 

Aegis silently berated himself for not being at his fiance's side. "Not much further now, everypony. Hang in there."

Snowy Fields gave a slight shrug and continued to follow after Aegis.

 

Silver Heart gave Poppy another small hug, "It's alright dear...this is...very brutal. If it hadn't been for my job I would probably be in the same state as you."

 

Snowy Fields addressed Silver Heart, "Ma'am, you said you worked on the experiments for the so called Talent Potions?"

 

Silver nodded in response.

 

"Were any of the experiments here?"

 

Silver Heart hesitated before nodding again. "Yes...why?"

 

Snowy Fields ignored her question, "I'm going on ahead. I trust you can get to the hospital by yourselves?"

"Hey! We need to stay together." Aegis said, but Snowy had already gone. "Strange pony, that one. And dangerous..."

 

He returned his attention to the group. He had to lead them to the hospital. From there, he reasoned that he would likely hand the reigns of leadership to somepony more qualified than he was.

Elsewhere, at the city communications...

 

"Everything is in place, sir."

 

Praetorian inspected the set. It was merely a simple camera, a microphone, and a device that Spell Check and his team had jury-rigged to hack into Harmony's network. "We'll wait until morning. That should give the city time to question their faith in the great Galt."

Steel remained with Zidotya, who was fast asleep. He was absentmindedly rubbing her hoof between his.

 

He took a deep breath.

 

"I'm sorry Aegis. I've been so focused on Dot I didn't think outside of it. I have just as much a responsibility to you guys as I do to Galt and to her." He looked to his friend.

 

"I promise I'll get us out of this."

"There's nothing to apologize for. Everypony has been tense since those damn terrorists attacked." Aegis said. He addressed the entire group. "I know everypony's been thinking this, so I'm gonna ask for your honest thoughts. Can we trust Mr Fields?"

 

Poppy fidgeted next to Silver Heart, reluctant to speak, especially since all she wanted to do was break down and cry.

Silver Heart looked around the group when no one spoke up she voiced her thoughts, "I'm not sure, he hasn't done anything," Silver Heart paused for a moment thinking back to the alley, "to us, at least...I mean he did save Zidotska from those Splicers..."

 

Silver Heart continued to comfort Poppy as best she could

"I say yes. Maybe just because he did help save Zidotya, but we can't afford to throw away allies at this point." Steel gently nuzzled Dot. The semi-concious zebra was curled in a fetal position, as if trying to warm her core.

 

"B-b-b-b-be safe, beloved." She whispered almost inaudibly and shakily.

"Poppy? What are your thoughts on this?" Aegis asked softly.

 

"He's dangerous. Why does he want to meet with Galt?" Poppy asked, though she refused to open her eyes.

 

Aegis thought about it for a moment. "Who knows. But I have a feeling that what happened to those terrorists will happen to us if we get between him and Galt. Miss Silver Heart, let me carry Mr Stripe."

"Poppy? What are your thoughts on this?" Aegis asked softly.

 

"He's dangerous. Why does he want to meet with Galt?" Poppy asked, though she refused to open her eyes.

 

Aegis thought about it for a moment. "Who knows. But I have a feeling that what happened to those terrorists will happen to us if we get between him and Galt. Miss Silver Heart, let me carry Mr Stripe."

"If he does want to see Galt, he'd better BE friendly. Saved Dot or no, it's my duty to protect that Griffon."

 

Suddenly, Steel was blindsided from out of the shadows. Before Steel could recover, he was pinned to the floor by a disfigured pony clearly in pain.

 

"Good to seeeEEE you AGain, Accord!" He growled.

 

"Peach Trees?" Steel kicked the unicorn off him and got to his hooves. "So! I was right about the negative effects of Jacking up on too many talent potions."

 

Steel drew his swords and charged.

 

Peach Trees smiled wickedly and began to visibly shake, sparks coming from his horn. 

 

"I'll show you side effects."

 

Fzzzzzzz-BOOM!

 

An electrical field exploded outward, sending Steel flying back.

 

When he recovered, Peach Trees was nowhere to be seen.

 

"Ha! Once a coward always a coward." Steel laughed before returning to where Dot lay.

 

She was gone.

 

"Dot? Dot?! DOT WHERE ARE YOU?!" He began to grow frantic before he felt his heart stop, literally. The shock had sent his heart beating irregularly. "He took her. . . ."

 

Steel collapsed and began go into a fit, his muscles spasming.

A muffled panting noise was heard from the distance as a slightly dishevelled-looking Pegasus cantered towards the convulsing Steel.

His unkempt mane and heavy breathing suggested that he'd been running for some time, and his mane was daampened in such a way that you wouldn't be able to tell if he was sweating or had just fallen in a puddle. This was Cyber Pulse, the hitherto-unnoticed equine biologist and aspiring doctor.

 

Cyber wasn't entirely able to see what was going on from where he was, but as he approached Steel, the scene became much clearer. He stopped, panting from his intensive trek across Harmony. It looked like he'd found the found the pony he was looking for, but he certainly had not expected to find him seizing on the ground.

"OK, Cyber... Think. What to do in this situation.", he said urgently to himself as he closed his eyes in thought. "Steel... or at least I assume this is Steel, is seizing, and by the looks of it, it's a nasty one. Think, think...!"

It'd been a long time since he'd learned this in med school. "When somepony's seizing..." it took him a few seconds to recall the information. "First... protect from injury."

There didn't seem to be anything around which could hurt the convulsing Steel.

"Satisfied... Step 2... Cushion their head, and speak to them calmly and reassuringly."

He slowly walked over to Steel and cushioned his head in his hooves.

"OK, calm down... calm down, it's going to be OK..."

He felt so odd doing this. This was the first time he'd put this knowledge into practice, but at present it seemed to be going well.

Silver Heart froze the moment she saw Peach Tree. After Peach Tree's vanished, Silver Heart started to visibly shake while she clung to Poppy Seed. "I-no, he should be dying right now...I-I killed him." she whispered quietly.

 

 

 

(OOC: Meh, not my best post. It will take awhile to get back into the groove for this RP.)

Aegis rubbed the back of his head and tried standing up, only to feel dizzy and sit down again. That was the second time he'd been hit from behind, and he was not happy about it.

 

"Whoever hit me... is gonna pay." He growled under his breath. He looked around, evaluating his vision. It was somewhat blurry and he was seeing double. "Well, that's helpful..." He deadpanned, and slowly crawled over to everypony else, once he was sure of where they were.

 

Poppy had been reduced to tears. She was entirely terrified by now and was beginning to regret her decision to come to Harmony five months ago. She held on to Silver tightly, afraid that if she let go, they'd all be taken. 

 

Aegis looked up at the pony taking care of the now-incapacitated Steel Accord, though he was dimly aware that he'd soon pass out from the compounding stress of the evening. "Hey, could you take us to the hospital? We're tired and injured, and we need to get there soon. Will you help us?" He pleaded. Even if he looked like a crazy pony, he didn't care; he said he'd get them to safety one way or another.

Cyber looked up from Steel Accord, who was now breathing normally, but had not quite recovered yet. (OOC: Would that be counted as godmodding?) After placing him in the recovery position, he turned his gaze towards the pony who'd requested his help.

 

"It's not far from here. Follow me... but first I need someone to help me carry this guy. Preferably someone gentle, too many sudden movements could set off another fit."

Poppy dried her eyes as best he could, opening her eyes for the first time since seeing Snowy’s brutality. “If it means we get away from here, I’ll take him. But let’s just move quickly.”

 

Aegis struggled to get to his feet. He was aware that he may be doing serious damage to himself, but his determination was winning out. He checked his injured wing. The arrow, miraculously, had not moved. “I agree with Poppy. Time is not in our favour…”

Cyber looked up from Steel Accord, who was now breathing normally, but had not quite recovered yet. (OOC: Would that be counted as godmodding?) After placing him in the recovery position, he turned his gaze towards the pony who'd requested his help.

 

"It's not far from here. Follow me... but first I need someone to help me carry this guy. Preferably someone gentle, too many sudden movements could set off another fit."

 

"I'm . . . . . fine." Steel said as he slowly rose to his hooves. "I am in your debt, Doctor." He thanked the healer. "Steel Accord." He introduced himself with an uneasy raise with his hoof. "We would greatly appreciate your assistance though." Steel was talking strong but his stance was still uneasy, if worse came to worse, he'd be in no condition to fight.

After introducing himself to Steel, Cyber noted his uneasy walking.

 

"I think it best you stay close. Since you've just had a major fit your body's going to be very weak, and something too sudden could set off another one. The hospital isn't far though, just follow me and we'll be there soon."

“That’s good. I’m so… I’m so…tired…” Aegis said, trying to stay upright. His vision blurred as the night’s events caught up to him.

 

Poppy walked up to Aegis. “Get on.” She said simply. It looked as if she had stopped crying for now.

 

Aegis tried walking on his own, but he nearly collapsed. “Damn it… Just leave me behind. I’ll only slow you down.”

 

“Why do you insist on taking on everypony’s burdens yourself?” Poppy asked.

 

Aegis stared off into the distance. “If I don’t, who else will?”

 

Tears started flowing from Poppy’s eyes again, though she still lifted Aegis onto her back. “Reckless fool… You can’t help yourself, can you?”

 

“Reckless… Maybe.” Aegis said, slipping into unconsciousness as everypony made their way to the hospital.

Spell Check was one of the few ponies to have earned Praetorian’s utmost trust, and one of the fewer still who had seen his face. He understood the need for such secrecy. After all, Praetorian was a wanted criminal and was once a wealthy business pony himself. But he was always distant and viewed the world from the sidelines. As if he saw no place for himself in this world.

 

Then, everything changed the day his father was accused of smuggling contraband into Harmony. He became an outcast, looked down upon by society and publicly shamed. So he met and befriended Spell Check, who was merely a lowly secretary at the time. He was viewed as odd for his profession, but one pony took the time to meet him. The two of them planned the death of a disgraced businesspony’s son and the rise of the pony who would challenge Galt, Praetorian.

 

And when morning comes, he would reveal himself to Harmony.
