Could Equestria Girls be a deconstruction?

1. RD is wearing shorts under. Not really a big deal. Secondly, it's also a bit faulty as an argument:

2. I agree that AJ shouldn't be that fancy. I just thought she was involved in the skirt argument, which she might not have been. xD

3. Depends highly on the skirt. As a man who has actually worn them, I can say that short and wide skirts(like the ones seen in EG seem to be) are actually more practical than shorts, as long as they have pockets. Especially when you have wide thighs(which you get from explosive running, which is common in football/soccer, rugby and ice hockey, which are "my sports") img-1524600-1-tongue.png

I know I would benefit a ton from wearing a skirt like that during my long walks around town.

Also, the Look before you sleep dress was purposefully over the top.

Also, please explain the problem you have with the notion of tomboy.

My problem with the skirt thing is not so much the fact that RD and AJ are wearing them, they are just the two I think would be least likely to wear a skirt so I made examples of them (and yes, I was also referring to AJ's whole outfit, sorry if I was unclear :) ). My problem with the skirts is that all of the mane six are wearing them. And in the case of Rainbow, it almost seems like they purposefully added the skirt on over her shorts in order to make them all wear skirts! The fact that they made it a running skirt only adds to the obviousness of it. I would really like to see more girls in pants in this film, especially Twilight. I can see Rarity wearing all kinds of chic clothes including both skirts and pants, but the only one I can see wearing a skirt all the time is Pinkie Pie because they're fun. They go whoosh whoosh when you walk in them and when you spin around they go weeeeee! :)

A couple of people asked me why I don't like the word tomboy. Here's my answer. I feel like it undermines the individuality and character of the "tomboy" in question by insinuating that she is behaving like something other than what she is. Namely, a female. The word tomboy reinforces the idea that there is male behaviour and female behaviour and that the two can never be the same. When one calls Rainbow Dash a tomboy, one is essentially saying that all of Rainbow Dash's awesome qualities are things not found in the majority of girls. And I don't like that. I also don't like the lesser used word "tomgirl", which is used to describe a male who acts in ways which are traditionally considered feminine. When a boy is labeled a tomgirl because he shows an interest in raising children, dance, flower arranging, and other such activities traditionally considered to be feminine, it undermines his individuality and suggests that the majority of men can not or should not carry out such activities.

It's cool that you have worn a skirt! :D I personally would love it if skirts became normal attire for men the same way women wearing pants became socally acceptable in the past. It would break down even more of these silly gender roles that abound.

Speaking of Equestria Girls and its desire to be race and ethnic neutral:

Really brings up fond memories of Doug. To this day I can't even figure out what ethnicity or background Skeeter was supposed to be, or more than half the school for that matter.

I'm really curious as to the setting of Equestria Girls is. It seems to be more/less an analogue to America, but for all we know its on some large floating continent. Ah well at least now I can speculate that Skeeter is Equestrian. It'll at least make for an interesting fanfic.

Then you wouldn't like the swedish terms for tomboy at all. xD

1: Pojkflicka. Pojk= Boy. Flicka= Girl. Essentially, Boy-girl.

2. Yrhätta. Essentially "Dizzy-hat"(implied, dizzy under the hat- i.e. in the head). Old term that dates back to the days women were expected to cover their hair, and act feminine. As such, someone who wasn't would be seen as not all there, explaining the "dizzy".

The negative background of the word is more or less forgotten at this point, though.

These two are the most used, though Scania has it's own version of Yrhätta(that is actually still an insult).

3. Galenratta. Galen= Insane, mad. The meaning of ratta has been lost to time. ;_;

Scania has a more reasonable one too:

Gallraja. Gall= Loud, as in gallskrik(loud scream/screech). Like ratta, I can't find the etymology for raja.

"The meaning of life? Humans create their own meaning. They always strive onwards, upwards, to break the limits of their knowledge, the limits of their bodies capacities, and the limits of their technology.
We have to take the good with the bad. We created the nuclear bomb, but we also created penicillin."

Well, it's certainly a possibility. I'm not totally convinced though; this could just as easily be a the basic high school drama it is advertised as. I hope you're right, but I won't be holding my breath.
