So being the internet detective I am I came across something more than... Interesting.

I found a YouTube Channel dedicated to showing how "Autistic" the Brony community is. I've watched one video so far "Dad, I'm a Brony" and the spaghetti was overwhelming. Most of this has to be set up, or at least I hope it is. I know there are people like this. Just thought I'd post it so we can share thoughts on it as I'm quite interested to what other people think.

I didn't know which thread to put this in as Media only has Movies/TV and I don't think YouTube applies to that, and if this thread gets deleted, well that isn't a surprise at all.

EDIT: So a lot of people are reporting the channel, as I have. But deducing from what they have in their description it seems they have gone through this before and have already lost two channels. Nonetheless if you feel like reporting them please go ahead and do so.

Aye, I guess that could be true. I wouldn't think of someone any less for that but I would find them annoying. I've watched about ten videos now. Some of them are cringe inducing and others aren't that bad. Some of them in-fact surprise me they uploaded them. They aren't that bad and make me question whats autistic about it. The main videos that get me are the Talent show performances.

First to be said, I am utterly against pony sexualized as plush toys and pillows, but I also belief that if someone likes it, let them, but don't go out and show it off....>ick<

 

Second, I am also not okay with extreme fans being labeled autistic.  I have worked with so many autistic kids, and what these bronies do is not what autistic people commonly do (i.e. social interaction especially involving crowds of any kind).

 

 

HOWEVER

I do think this channel is funny and really brings to light how crazy (and scary) this fandom can be, and it also happens to prove that ALL fandoms have these people in some way.  Pointing out FIM's fandom the way many do in mainstream media and saying how bad it is due to the fanatical fans is just something every fandom has to deal with.  However, bronies are very much set apart due to the content in which the fandom is based off of (a show for little girls), and is thus considered a huge deviation from the social norm, which is one more thing we as fans need to constructively deal with.

I have a severe problem with this channel. It's not that they archive a sheath of videos where Bronies go overboard - they can do that all they like. What's got me irritated is that they call it "MLPAutismCentral". I myself have autism, and absolutely nothing on this channel displays any traits of autism. It obscures the true meaning and severity of a disorder that can cause depression and severe social ineptness; and it's disrespectful.

 

I've reported the channel, actually. Otherwise, I'll just leave them to it.

I have met Autistic people in real life before and while they are slow to understand social meanings I use they are some of the smartest people I've met. It's sad how some people use autism as an insult when really to me it would seem an advantage.

Autism is a serious condition. Using it as an insult to any group is awful. It's not even in a funny joke or something. As for the playlist itself, I don't care. If someone is stupid enough to post themselves looking foolish on the internet, then they deserve to be laughed at. "Haters" can try to expand these people's behavior to all bronies, but that is idiotic, and if anyone tries to troll me with it, I won't care because I'll be too busy winning girls over with my adorable Applejack plushie (that has worked so many times ). I too have reported this channel for its insulting nature towards anyone with autism and towards the brony fandom.  If it was a channel just there to show the severely strange side of bronydom for laughs and such, it'd be alright.  However, it marks these videos out for "educational/research purposes", implying that these videos are not just for kicks, but are actually there for insulting.

I don't know. I more feel sorry for the people that are featured on the channel. I don't see how Autism could be consider serious though. It seems to me a lot of people view autistic people as 'retarded' other than what it really is, and it disappoints me. I have two friends, one has Asperger and the other shows signs of Autism though we have never discussed it. The first one has a massive speech problem, as while as I but not as bad as him. People think my speech problem is more of an accent. My friend has it so bad it's hard to understand him but he is a lot more clever than he sounds. My other friends shows all the classic signs of being autistic but he is the only friend I know that wants, and can keep up with me. He challenges himself more than anyone else I've met and he works on out-smarting people other than out-playing them. He can probably even be my successor.

This is another example of ignorance and hasty generalization. Just because some bronies take it too far doesn't mean that all the people in the fandom are autistic. Oh sure some bronies DO take it too far, especially on levels that can't be discussed on these forums (for NSFW reasons). 

 

Also, nearly all of the vids are under copyright.

I understand the thought behind the channel, showcasing the absolute craziest side of the fandom. I don't necessarily agree with the existence of such channels, as their goal seems to encompass spreading around the most stereotyped image of a fandom and passing it off as being the norm. I.e., an endeavor to widen the "haterbase" through misinformation and generalization of a fandom.

 

But calling the channel MLPAutismCentral? lolwut? I don't get it. Do they mean to imply that everyone in the so-compiled videos is autisitic? Because I can clearly see this isn't the case. See, while I don't claim to know all the signs of autism, quite a few of these vids are showing bronies flourish in some very public, very social situations. Which, to my understanding, are situations that many autistic folk tend to find highly uncomfortable and sometimes avoid outright.

 

And even if the entirety (or even a majority) of the brony fanbase were autistic, since when was autism a basis on which people should be ridiculed for a particular "out of the norm" behavior? Whatever the intent of this channel's creator(s), it's insulting to everypony involved, autistic or not.

 

I think I, too, will be jumping on the report bandwagon. If they'd just called it something like "BroniesAreFreaks", that'd be one thing. It'd still be stupid, but it wouldn't be attaching undue stigmas to autism the way that it is.

I do have to disagree on one point here.  Some of these people featured on this channel DO seem to display traits that lie within the ASD (autism spectrum of disorders).  I work closely with many people who have autism or Asperger's syndrome, and many of them do have similar mannerisms to those in some of the videos.

 

However, that is the only point on which I disagree with this thread.  This channel is clearly intended to insult and defame both autistic individuals and bronies in general.  Whether it's an accurate representation or not is irrelevant.  Mental disorders of any sort are not funny and should not be used as a joke.

It works fine for me still. If you can't use the link is should be under the "About" tab next to discussion. I don't think you can be using an outdated version? It's the new youtube channel design yes other than that all I could think of is the problem is on both ends specifically for you.
