Okay so I got into the whole pony fandom because if Vinyl Scratch and Octavia, came across art of Vinyl when I was looking up DJing art work and I thought that she looked really cool, as for Octavia it pretty much the same story just instead of DJing art work I was looking for more Vinyl Scratch stuff and I saw Octy with vinyl in a pic.

 

So now comes the silly question: Am I still technically a brony? Cause Im not going to lie, I havent seen really any of the episodes of the show, I know bits and pieces of it but never sat down and watched it.

 

I also have a another question: my fiancee says she kinda like rainbow dash and nothing else so would she be considered a pony fan or not.

 

Yeah i know really silly and probably pointless but Im kinda confused on the whole thing.

excatly i found this whole fandom by accident also and thought it was silly at first, but i gave the show a try after a while and came to be part of it. It sucked me in and assimilated me

I mean, not all of the fandom has the same interests, there is just a bit of common ground.

 

Whether you watch the show proper, or don't, doesn't really matter, just enjoy what interests you.

 

Especially in the Brony fandom, where music is such a substantial portion of the fan work.

As far as I'm aware, there's no technical definition for a brony.  If you consider yourself to be a brony, then congratulations!  You're a brony!  If not, then congratulations!  You have an appreciation for the artwork, design, and fan-made content of a pair of characters from the show!  I imagine that the same would apply to your fiancee.

It's really up to you if you classify yourself as a 'brony' or not, but surely by calling yourself a 'brony', you are admitting that you are happy with being in the community. Personally I'd recommend seeing the show, because hey, it has to be at least somewhat good if it's managed to get the rest of us this site hooked, but if you are comfortable with being a 'brony' that just likes a particular aspect of the fandom, then that's fine. It's really all up to you. We like to think that their is free will within the community, so it shouldn't be up to anyone else to decide whether you can be classified as a 'brony' or not. Do what's best for you

You are seriously missing out. I'm wondering something though, are you interested in watching the show? I know you like Vinyl and Octavia (which are music-themed background ponies which does explain why you like them and how you found them). Would you be up for atleast giving the show a shot? You will be glad you did plus you could discuss more with the forum and it could lead to you being more fond of the fandom. The choice is yours my friend. I always saw a Brony as someone who liked the show but I guess if you like the subject matter and are not against the fandom it is totally fine to call yourself a Brony.

I didn't start watching until a month or two after joining.

In my definition of the word, a brony is more a person who has to have at least one of the following qualities.

 

-You're somewhat active in the fandom. (Post on forums/Draw art/Write Fanfics/ etc.)

-You watch the show.

-At least have an interest in the the show. (This can be from anything to the actual show, to most fan creations.)

 

As long as you have something to do with the show and are not a hater, or someone just defending a brony or what not, I'd consider you a brony. (People who don't know about the fandom and watch the show, unincluded.)

Okay so I guess I could be considered a brony and to answer one of the questions directed about me watching the show: I do want to at least check it out heh.

 

One thing i actively do is read fanfiction most related to Vinyl and Octavia but I read them actively, I actually want to start reading some that involve Luna cause I'm starting to become a fan of her as well and that is because I have started looking up info on the different characters and Luna (along with Vinyl and Octavia) is becoming one of my faves.

 

I kinda already figured I could be considered a brony lols. But Im a curious person so i needed to ask

 

Ps. Anyone know a good Luna fanfic?

well, there is the Luna-verse series of fan fics, but those stories ironically don't typically have Luna in a prominent role.

 

Though, there is An Early Reunion, which features her and Cadence prominently(though, note, if you do read it, I should inform you now that the Luna-verse is DRASTICALLY different from the main universe).

 

It's rather Ye Olde English, though. It's still a rather sweet little story.

Not silly. Basically, if you say you're a brony, you are. Nobody has the authority to keep you from being a brony. Not having seen the show is not a barrier. (Although I do recommend it.)
