Ciel paused abruptly because of what Cinder had said. Too many talents! She had never really considered that. Ciel made a mental note to reserve one day for going through each of her talents in an attempt to sniff out the most unique to her.

She laughed at Cinder's comment about the food. "I hope so!" When she was little her dad was always focused on new ideas for toys which left her mom to cook for her and Amour. Those days had been horrible to say the least, because her mom couldn't cook if she tried her hardest. Even using magic, hadn't helped her.

Gardenia was quite happy that Ciel gave her a soft smile in reply to her attempt to deflect the whole blank-flank issue. She also wasn't much surprised that Cinder didn't really care about that issue, and Gardenia felt quite relieved to hear Ciel's laughter at Cinder's comment about the food.

Gardenia wasn't too concerned with how the food would taste like. She had tasted fine cuisine before, and it wasn't much to her taste, so she was hoping, if anything, that the canteen's food would be simple but tasty. Perhaps something as simple as a daisy sandwich and hay-fries. Gardenia didn't have much to say, but she figured just a little input would be expected, "I'm sure whatever is available will be delectable.

"Look, hay fries!" The bumbling mare almost shouted, munching on the food. "Mmph... Yeah, normally I end up cooking. It doesn't usually end well but..." She shrugged again. "Well, Scribe burned a salad once. And thats still not the worst food I've had."

Almost as quickly as the food had appeared in her hooves, it was gone. She turned to Gardenia.

"So, flowers and plants and... stuff?" she queried, not quite sure what to say about 'horticulture' but still curious. "I think Nightshade said she did the same kind of thing, I bet you'd get along great!"

I face plant into the food and eat. I hadn't noticed how hungry I was. I notice not very many ponies are in the canteen yet, then I see three mares walk in. I look at the blue mare with a blond highlighted mane. I think to myself *damn, she's beautiful* I hadn't noticed I was staring at her, and i was suddenly neglecting my food, all i did was make a stupid looking smile at her.

Gardenia blinked in confusion when Cinder said that a friend of her's managed to burn a salad. That just seemed inconceivable. She shrugged slightly and looked down at her food, she hadn't eaten anything since right before arriving, and even that was just a light snack.

"Oh, yes, Nightshade did seem like a rather pleasant pony. Though, come to think of it, aren't nightshades poisonous?" Gardenia said in reply to Cinder's assertion. She didn't want to mention that there was something about Nightshade that unsettled Gardenia, since she was trying to convince herself that it was just her imagination.

Gardenia looked around the canteen, saw Psych Ward was sitting all by herself, and felt a little saddened by that. As she was scanning the canteen she saw some pegasus stallion staring at her with a wide grin. "Now that's odd, why would somepony gaze at somepony with such an expression?" she thought to herself, as her gaze settled upon Ciel, a soft smile forming on her face.

Gardenia caught that she was staring at Ciel and immediately turned her attention to her still uneaten food. She took the sandwich and bit into it, looking down and letting her forelock fall in front of her eyes.

When I notice that the mare looked away I facehoof at myself *what the hell is wrong with me* I face plant into the plate. i look back up *how is a Pegasus like me going to impress a mare like her? Buck my life* I slam my face into the table repentantly, possibly leaving a bruise on my head. I didn't care, I knew she was going to point out my stupidity sometime.

Psych Ward frowned at the stallion from the table over.  "Excuse me," she said.  "But I'm sure that didn't feel too good."  She had barely touched her salad but her sandwich was half way gone.

Nightshade strolled in, catching up with Cinder.  "Wonderful," she smiled.  "I knew I'd catch up with you," she said.

"Poisonous?" Cinder echoed, remembering what her roommate had told her earlier. "Yeah I think she did mention something like that, come to think of it."

She tapped a hood to her chin thoughtfully.

"Fire burns though, but it's still really useful." She said. "Oh, and that Pegasus over there keeps pulling faces at you by the way."

(Edit - didn't refresh the page so missed psychs post)

Hearing another pony address her from behind she turned to see Nightshade.

"Oh, hey there!" Cinder greeted her roommate cheerfully as she approached.

Nightshade smiled.  "That assembly was boring," she shook her head.  "The rules were basic and simple and we really already knew our roommates, and for the most part schedules."  She went up and filled a small plate, getting two pastries and a glass of fizzy juice.

As Nightshade turned away Cinder looked back to the other two, smiling happily, either ignorant to the tension or just simply ignoring it.

"See?" She said cheerfully. "Uh, he didn't say anything important in the assembly, did he? I might have missed a little. Or all of it. One or the other."

I was too angry at myself to notice the mare frowning at me, Also the fact my face was on the table. I was exhausted from the day, and I almost knocked myself out from banging my face on the table... I looked at my 'naturally' tilted wings and I frown (if you didn't read my older posts you should look to understand what I'm doing) *cripple* I call myself in my head. I leave early, I was already embarrassed enough, no need to stay and make even more of a fool of myself. I sit in an empty bench outside of the canteen and relax my head. "I gotta calm my stress. Don't want it to get too high" I rub my head and rest it on my hooves.

Nightshade shook her head.  "Nothing really.  Don't go into the stallions' dorm room.  Don't be late to class.  Yada yada yada!"  She sat down at the first table.

Ciel looked up from her daisy sandwich, hayfries and rose water to see Gardenia smiling at her then quickly look away. Huh what was that about? She thought, but thought nothing of it.

She heard a loud banging sound and craned her neck to see a stallion, smacking his face into the table. She briefly considered going over to him and asking why he was doing that or what was wrong, but he left before she could. Not wanting to leave and get lost or left behind, she stayed where she was, feeling a tad guilty.

She nodded at the mare named Nightshade, "Yeah the assembly was pretty lame. They act like we're a bunch of fillies and colts who don't know any better." she commented.

Nightshade nodded.  "Exactly.  Can't they have any faith in us?  I'm sure there's one or two ponies that needed to attend the assembly, but I don't think everyone was born yesterday."  She took a small bite of the pastry, smiling when she tasted the blackberry filling.

I sat across from the door to the canteen, I started doodling in a notebook to relieve my stress, but all I drew were knives and frowney faces. I make an angry look and put the notebook away. I adjust my wings so they don't go out of their place again. (Look at my older posts when I was talking to Zatiko) I look at the canteen door again, I see all the ponies socializing and eating together. "This sucks" I say to myself, "hope I can go to my dorm and sleep soon, just want to get away from these ponies." I say to myself, not caring if I look weird, because nopony is around anyways.

Gardenia took a few more bites into her sandwich. She wanted to look up when she heard some banging noises in the general direction she had seen that pegasus, but decided against it. She couldn't quite ascertain as to why she was feeling embarrassed, but she definitely knew she was. "Come to think of it, I have been staring at Ciel a bit much, haven't I? I mean, I barely even noticed anything during that orientation presentation. Oh, she must think I am some kind of weirdo, staring at her like that."

Before she realized it, Gardenia had finished her sandwich. She finally decided to look up, trying her hardest to keep her eyes from wandering to Ciel, and saw Nightshade. There was still something about her, something in the timber of her voice, something in her gait, in her expression, that reminded Gardenia of some of the more unpleasant ponies she had met in Canterlot. She tried pushing those fears to the back of her mind, though, not wanting to judge her for something that very well could have been just her imagination.

She didn't have anything to say on the matter of the presentation; she was hardly cognizant of the whole thing, after all. She instead tried to focus on her meal, keeping her head up now, though she occasionally found herself casting Ciel a sidelong glance, to which she would immediately try to refocus her attention upon her meal.

Deciding that she hadn't spoken her piece in a while but not really knowing how to interject, Cinder started to look around to see what else there was to do - she looked about the canteen, noticing  the pony with the long sleeves sitting on her own picking at some food, Cinder wondered where the Pegasus that had been pulling faces at Gardenia had disappeared to.

Failing to find anything to entertain herself she pulled out her notepad again and started scribbling away again. The light in the canteen was much better than in the other room.

Nightshade smiled, looking over.  "Whatcha drawing?" she asked kindly.  She took another bite of her blackberry pastry and a sip of her drink.

Psych Ward got up.  She had finished her food except for a few onions that had been in her salad.  She hated onions.  They were nasty.  She dumped her tray and look around.  She wasn't sure what to do now so she sat back down in her seat.

Cinders head whipped around defensively before she realised that it was just Nightshade. Relaxing, she waved towards the notebook - the page was mostly full of scribbles and crossings out.

"Nothing interesting." She answered, her voice cracking just a little."Just some work that I never finished."

Lines and measurements had been drawn and redrawn, there were numbers dotted haphazardly about the page and even a section where what once started as a complex calculation was crossed out and replaced with the words 'Just guess.'

After what she considered the minimum polite amount of time she flicked the book closed again and placed a hoof over it.

"Old stuff of course, we've not had any lessons yet. Is that blackberry?" She said quickly.

Nightshade smiled knowingly.  "It is," she said.  "They're really good.  You want half?"  She quickly split it in half, keeping the part she had bit off of.  She split the other one to see what the flavor it was.  "And key lime," she smiled.  "I could get used to this school if they have these pastries every night.

"Mmhm." The mare answered and she took the pastry offered to her. "S'good!" She mumbled through the food.

She didn't understand why it was was that Ceil and Gardenia seemed to be on edge around the unicorn - it wasn't like she had done anything wrong or shown anypony anything but good manners. She put it down to some kind of superstition. Cinder firmly believed in having faith in anyone and everyone and seeing what seemed like two otherwise kind and polite ponies tense up for no reason confused her.

"So..." She said after swallowing the mouthful of berries. "You're from Canterlot I guess?"

Caught on the back hoof by the surprise revelation she started to get flustered. Refined? No, that made it sound like she was calling her old...

"Noble?" She tried tentitivly. "Yeah, like the unicorns there, only not..."

Backstabbing, double crossing, giggling...

"Uh, only not cruel." She added.

Acoustic Cloud grabbed his tray full o food and scanned the area for an open table. All the ponies were socializing amongst each other, but he didn't see any open seats. He casually made his way to a stairwell and sat himself down and began to eat the sandwich provided to him.

"It's no problem at all," Nightshade smiled.  "A unicorn must stay pretigous and poised if they want to go into the special line of work.  And I wish to be a doctor."  She finished the blackberry tart and took another sip of her drink.
