Clover explained. "It works by raising a sort of invisible shield around a certain space, in this case, the campsite. Should anything attack, they'd bounce off the ward and the ward would make a noise to alert us. Of course, repeated attacks would break thru the wards but before that would happen, we'd be up and able to launch a counter attack against whatever threatened us."

 

She then explained in detail how to cast the spell.

Lost nodded. Having studied magic for years, he had learned to gain a basic grasp of how to cast a spell fairly quickly. "Alright. I think I can do that. How about you start casting from here and go clockwise, and I'll go counterclockwise, and we'll meet up in the middle? That should get the job done pretty quickly."

Crimson stared suspiciously at the border of the village, "for some reason, I'm feeling a strange sensation from this little village...celestia and sanura were right, this town really is cursed...I just hope that we can break or lift it somhow, before sompony gets hurt..." thought crimson as he sat quitely next to sanura.

"Good idea," Clover replied with a smile. She then went off in a clockwise direction to start casting the wards.

Sanura shivered involuntarily as she looked at the borders of the village. When Crimson sat down next to her, she said, "I really hope we can do something about this evil village. I can just feel the total wrongness of it, even just sitting here."

Sanura shivered involuntarily as she looked at the borders of the village. When Crimson sat down next to her, she said, "I really hope we can do something about this evil village. I can just feel the total wrongness of it, even just sitting here."

Crimson nodded in agreement, "I feel it too, this place just radiats with a sense of total fear and sorrow...whoever or whatever did this to this village must be either pretty angry or pretty crazy...if were unlucky, it'll be both..." said crimson seriously as he stared at the border of the village with suspicion.

Lost nodded and began casting the wards going counterclockwise. It was a bit difficult the first few times, adjusting to a new spell, but it was pretty easy to cast once he got the hang of it. As he went along, he began to worry about what would happen in the village. They said the village would show you your greatest fear. Was he going to have to face...Her? Would he be able to handle it if he did?

Clover was thinking along the same lines as Lost as she performed the protection spells her side. Cept in her case, she already knew what her worst fear was. It went back to when she was a filly, searching for her cutie mark, and she'd come accross a strange village in the Everfree. Not this one, but one which was also under a curse. The fact that she and her friends had solved the mystery and fixed the curse was probably why Celestia had called her in the first place. But what she feared was the zombie ponies who appeared with darkness in the other village, Sunny Town. She shivered.

Sanura nodded. "That's how I feel about it. It frightens me, but I know that we have to do this." She motioned to the others. "Come on," she said. "Let's get back to the camp. Get a good night's sleep tonight, cuz tomorrow morning, come what may, we are going into the village."

Lost continued casting the wards around their campsite until he finally finished his half and met up with Clover in the middle. "Alright, that wasn't so hard after all. Is there anything else we need to do?"

"That's all, I think," Clover replied to Lost. "I left a gap my side for the others to get in. When they return from their scouting mission, I'll close the gap in the wards after they go inside. Then we'll be safe for the night from anything dangerous in the Forest."

I'm trying to kid myself into thinking I could see anything in there, but really, I know what it's going to be.  And it's a part of my past that I don't think I'm ready to face yet. "We'll both have to try and face our fears," Clover replied. "And that goes for everypony in our group. If we want to fix the village, we will have to work together."

 

Sanura, along with North, Crimson and Minty, arrived back at camp. Clover closed the wards over the scouts once they arrived back, and the camp was safe.

Quick Shot nodded once and then stalked to the edge of the camp and sat down, watching the night.

 

Speed Blast yawned very catlike and laid down. "Probably some demon or demonette that he pissed off and now wants bloody revenge, eh?" He grinned.

"Ow!" Speed Blast rolled over and, when he rolled back over, was bearing a brilliant black eye. "What was that for? Are you a part of her fan club or something stupid like that?" He retreated a short distance away before rubbing at his eye.

"Do me a favor, Quick Shot. Shut up."

Minty looked back at the small group. The group was in chaos. "Now, everypony, we have to stay together. We can't keep fighting like this. It's not right. Besides, this is Sanura," she said, pointing to her. She eyed Speed Blast nervously. "She isn't a demon," she said, afraid not to mess up.

Clover said gently to Minty, "I don't think that's who Lost is referring to. But you're right, of course. We can't fight among ourselves, not when we have the village to face tomorrow. We need to go to sleep now; everypony's tired and tempers are fraying."

 

She said to Lost, "Ignore him. It's not worth losing your temper over. And if you ever want to talk, remember that I'm always here."

Lost shook his head. "I'm sorry. I really am. You'd think by this point in my life I'd have learned to be more mature than that. But I've always been vulnerable to anything involving Her." He sighed.
