The Trotting Dead RP

[The Ponyville Critic 304]

Fire Horn walked over to the window, there was a strange trotter, actually, bigger than a trotter, like something more powerful. And it was waiting on the other side of the street from them.
"What is that?" Fire Horn asked, as if the others were better informed about this than he was.

"Not sure," Carrick look out the window, "but it looks like big trouble. We should consider moving out of here and finding someplace to hide. Least until we know more information on whatever that thing is. If that thing starts attacking us, we could be in trouble." Carrick deduced.

There we go. As Carrick pours the last drops of purified water into his canteen. He takes a heavy sigh, knowing full well that they'll be good for time being. Carrick places the canteen into his coat and grabs the container as well. As he heard signs of commotions upstairs.

 

Taking himself upstairs, He puts the container down and grabs the open roof. Seeing the figure that was bigger than any other trotter he has seen. Interesting. Probably trouble. Carrick gets back down and walks into Ghost's room. "Ghost, how ya feeling?" Carrick wanted to talk plans...

Ghost continued to stare outside, but answered Carrick. "I'm feeling better. Rested up after guard duty. I feel the sword is slowly changing me, though. But I think that we have bigger problems." Ghost points outside to the large figure. "I think that... thing is watching us. Planning to make it's move."

Carrick tapped his chin, "I had the same feeling, Ghost. Maybe we should consider a plan, because if that thing is after us. We have to deal with that and the trotters all over the city." The detective concluded. "Those odds aren't in our favor. Especially with some ponies losing their reserves for magic and also lack of food." Carrick took out his canteen and took the sip of the warm water.

Ghost looked at the sun and saw that it was setting quickly. "It looks like it's waiting for the night. If that thing comes after us, I'll take it on man-to-man. Anything that comes after us has me to speak to." Ghost slipped his mask on. "For now, we should focus on finding some food. Only downside is that we have only about an hour until sundown, so we have to act now if we are to find some."

Alesiar watched as the ponies moved around inside there house. She thought that since she cannot attack them, the trotters could. She stood in a bit of shade protecting her from sun light, so she could be seen by anyone if they looked outside. She stood with her head down and eyes closed. Then she started to slowly lift her head and opened her eyes reveling her empty sockets, and let out a loud screech. The screech was heard by every trotter within 2 streets and any glass that was within 10 feet of her shook and shatered. As soon as she had done this she looked towards the house and slowly backed away and vanished into the darkness.

Carrick gave a slight heh from his lips, "Even if you were going to fight the said beast hoof-to-hoof. What's to say you lose conscious from the sword? Or even use of the weaker ponies against you as a hostage? I don't think you understand the situation we're in. You're not playing solo here. You have a group." Carrick walks up to him, "I? I can probably just leave without a whimper, but these ponies...they seem to care about you and I know you care about them." 

 

"This isn't a game, Ghost. Least not to them." Carrick heard the screeches. "Seems like are messenger has arrived. I'm going to barricade the house. Keep everyone upstairs." Carrick galloped down to the house. Looking for something to hold the door...

Ghost heard the ear-piercing scream and covered his ears. "Sweet Luna, what was that?!" Ghost yelled at the top of his voice. When he could no longer hear the scream, he uncovered his ears. He noticed that the large figure disappeared and the trotters were approaching. "Oh no. Everyone! Get upstairs now! The trotters are coming!"

"Starburst, you need to place a shield around the house. The trotters are coming here and we need this place defended." Fire Horn shouted.

"But, i can't control it, i'll mess it up." Starburst pleaded.
"You won't mess it up, i promise." Fire Horn reassured him.

"But..." Starburst tried to argue.

"You... won't" Fire Horn responded. "Grand, you need to help him, try to do something to control the magic output. Carrick, with me, we need to defend the downstairs, just in case the forcefield doesn't work. Ghost, you need to be prepared to get us out of here if things go pear-shaped."

"Way ahead of you, Captain" Carrick joked as he already downstairs. Finding a bookself and throwing in on the door. Should be good enough to hold for awhile. Carrick turned to the kitchen. Seeing the stove he consider his options. The stove is gas operated. That means the gas is highly flammable. Though, that would also mean there should be a source of the gas. Probably a tank somewhere around here...maybe outside of the house. That's one option. We could also filled the room with gas and just burn it down, instead of blowing it up. Options, options. Carrick consider the options ahead of them.

Grand hurried down to where the other were. "I'll try my best" she said, using her magic to stabilize the force field as best she could." We just can't catch a break can we" she said, watching the horde of walkers grow bigger. "Just keep focussing starburst, I'm here in case anything goes wrong"

"Whatever you say, Fire!" Regardless, Ghost decided to help fend off the trotters, too. Ghost remembered that he grabbed Zycrin's old bow and arrow when he died. He took it out. "Sure hope I'm a good marksman..." Ghost aimed outside of the window, ready to fire at he trotters if the time comes.

Starburst didn't really feel confident under all this stress but he tried anyway, Starburst's horn lit up like a beacon, the effort clear by his gritted teeth and sweat coming from his forehead. Making a forcefield around one or two ponies was bad enough, but covering an entire house was crazy. A beam shot out of his horn, going up into the sky and wrapping around the house in a spherical shape.

 

(It's not an efficient shield spell, it has to be maintained constantly without interruption, not like Shining Armor's spell.)

Grand was straining to keep the force field stable. The poor colt looked exhausted. "Your doing good starburst, just keep going!" She moved to the centre of the house with Starburst so the trotters wouldn't reach them without going through the other ponies first. "How many of those bastards are there?" She yelled to Fire and Ghost

Seeing the sphere hold the house, Carrick tapped his chin. Does mean we have some time to think of a escape plan. That shield has a time limit, even if he can keep it stabilize, his magical output is finite. Not to mention they'll just keep coming.  "Hey," Carrick gets Fire Horn's attention "We better consider finding a place to run. From the looks of outside, we're in trouble. Even the strongest of ponies can't survive an infinite swarm of trotters."

Ghost was firing away at the trotters. The arrows seemed to go through the field, but not damage it. Arrow after arrow going through their skulls. "A whole army, it feels like! I'm running short on ammo!" Ghost yelled out as he continued shooting the trotters.

(I'm not gonna do that Skyrim "Arrow to the knee" thing, by the way)

"I.. Can't keep it stable any longer!" Grand said as her magic sputtered out. "We need to run, now!" She said looking at the other ponies. "Without me to stabilize it, this thing isn't gonna last too much longer, and starburst is exhausted. We need to get out of here" she yelled, trying to find an escape route

Starburst grunted and panted, not because he was running out of magic, but because there was too much, the shield started to pulsate, something was going to happen. (Get ready for alicorn poweeeer!) Starbursts eyes started glowing white.

 

--Transition--

 

"Ghost should be able to at least get us out of here, hopefully all alive." Fire Horn said to Carrick.

Ghost noticed the shield starting to break down. It wont be long before the shield drops completely and the trotters would start piling inside. There are too many of them to handle, even with the group's assistance. "If the shield breaks, grab onto me! I'll get us out of here!"

Grand grabbed a plank of wood and began swatting away the trotters. She noticed Starburst going into some sort of magic overload. "Hold on every pony!" She said, squeezing her eyes shut and bracing herself for whatever was about to happen next. She hoped it wouldn't be anything too intense

Suddenly, the shield begins glowing insanely brightly and explodes violently, sending Trotters flying away from the house. Splatting off buildings and some were completely vaporized. After the display of magic, Starburst lay on the ground, unconscious.

 

-Fire Horn's POV-

 

"Oh no, everypony get down!" Fire Horn ducked behind an overturned table.

Ghost quickly noticed that he was out of arrows. "Oh, come on! Why now?" Ghost yelled in annoyance. He then noticed Starburst going through some kind of overload. The kid must be giving it his all. When he fires, Ghost gets knocked back into the wall. He got up and tried to regain himself. "Whoa... that was intense."

Josh saw the bright light and trotters flying everywhere and realized that it could be other pony's. He couldn't remember when or how he had gotten separated from his friends but it was somewhere on the train journey to manehattin. Josh flew over as quick as he could hoping that there would be sompony he recognized

From the Alicorn's explosion of it all. Carrick gave one comment, "This group is unnecessarily dangerous." Carrick rubbed his temples in annoyance. There was probably a better plan than using a colt to defense us. Sure, it saved us now, but that could also just killed us as well. He gave a small sigh.

She called to him. "We can't sit around too long here, we need to get going ASAP" she called to the rest of the group
