Sky's anger went to sadness.

"It's not that I don't like it here, it's that they didn't even bother to ask me. I think my father had a hoof in this!" He said raising his voice but than went back to normal. "We never saw eye to eye on a few things. My wanting to just fly around being one of them. He wanted me to work my life away in that factory like he did, not fallow my dream. According to him my engineering degree was a waist of time. Just go make clouds he'd say..."

Skycoaster was on the verge of tears. He hardly ever cried, but talking about his father opened something up inside him.

He held out his hoofs for a hug.

@@Skycoaster,

"Come here!" sighed Bubble as she wrapped her forelegs around her... Her what? Her friend? Her employer? She shrugged mentally: it didn't really matter.

"There's nothing to gain by getting upset about it, we are who we are and should be proud of it! Look at me, my parents wanted me to be a scientist!"

She untangled herself from The hug and hopped up onto the desk, striking a pose of what she hoped was proud defiance.

"My name is Bubble, and I'm not who they wanted me to be!" She said brightly, smile wavering as she brought the fact that she was nothing like the rest of her family, but holding strong.

Never quite forgotten.

Sky smiled at Bubble. Her pep talk, though somewhat odd had cheered him up.

He climbs up into his desk also.

"Your right! Why shouldn't I fallow my own path! I am Skycoaster! I am an engineer and a talented flyer!"

From the corer of his eye he sees Pondah hiding in the closet.

"Get up here Pondah! Your turn!"

Sunny chuckled. "So, it might not be that my bedmane looks nice, just that you think I look nice all the time? In that case, I'll play it safe and brush my mane before we leave the apartment." she smiled and nuzzled Candy back before walking to the counter and getting out ingredients.

"Breakfast? of course. How do carrot pancakes sound?" She beamed. While she wasn't much of a cook,  She did know how. Carrot pancakes were her favorite thing to make, and she wanted Candy to try her recipe. Even if Candy didn't know much on the topic, her opinion still counted the most to Sunny.

"Carrot pancakes?" It was a dish she hadn't even so much as heard of since she was very young. Still, she trusted that Sunny would be good at making them. "Sure." She smiled. Candy then returned to their previous subject regarding Sunny's looks. "Well...sure I think you look good all the time, no matter what...but I can still appreciate that adorable bedmane of yours." She intentionally brushed up against, and rested her head on Sunny.

Sunny giggled and kissed the top of Candy's head, then got to work making the pancakes. A little while later, the pancakes were ready and she served the both of them. Sittng down at the table, she beamed again.
"I hope you like the pancakes," she said happily. "Do you want anything to drink?"

Candy dug into her pancakes right away, she was quite hungry, as she was now noticing. After a few bites, she finally answered, "Hm...apple juice!" She said excitedly. She was actually loving the pancakes, even after not quite expecting to. "This is great food." She beamed. She let out a short, happy huff, and giggled. "The little things, like these delicious pancakes, I would not have experienced had I not met you. You're such a blessing." She beamed.

After Rut-Light was done reading his book he felt like what he had been doing to drive the train has changed, he started to think to himself as he strode out of the library 'I've been doing this wrong for some reason; the start-up sequence is shovel coal in the furnace, let steam pressure build, move the Reverser forward, set Regulator to around 32% and release the breaks.  Then once the wheels have rotated a few times close the Cylinder cocks then once speed starts to build at a higher rate THEN you slowly start moving the Regulator to 100%.  Then after that's done and the Regulator is fully open, slowly move the Reverser down to just above neutral and just play with it from there. Hmm, might have to try this on a freight haul tomorrow.'  Rut-Light once again started to wander around the city, unsure of what to do next.

Pondah flinched when Sky addressed him, causing him to knock his head on a shelf. He slowly moved out, still keeping low to the floor. Shaking, he stood up and began to walk slowly over to Sky. The room was silent save the soft sound of hooves on carpet. Pondah stopped just short of Sky and gulped, a nervous frown on his face.

"Wh...what do I have to do?"  Pondah queried quietly.

Sky looks to Pondah with a confused look. "Um...why are you...never mind. Don't you have something to scream at the world? Grab a desk and get it out if your system!"

Skycoaster was feeling a lot better about himself. Maybe this assignment was a good thing. Instead of having subordinates, he now had what he would consider friends.

"I have a question for you two. Do you see me as your boss or a friend?"

"N... no," Pondah stuttered. "I haven't got anything to get out of my system... nothing that's legal." Taking a step away from the desk near Sky, Pondah began to dust down some other nearby desks. He wasn't doing a particularly good job, but the feeling he was helping made him feel slightly calmer.

"As for friend or boss,"  Pondah said quietly. "I'd say you're a mix of both but leaning towards boss."

'Idiot! I've just told the angry pony that he's not my friend.'

The realisation of his believed stupidy caused Pondah to curl up in a ball with his hooves on his head and shiver with fright.

Sunny beamed and got apple juice for them both, then dug in to her own breakfast. She finished her pancakes about the same time that Candy finished her own. At Candy's comment, she blushed, but chuckled.

"A blessing? I'm not so sure about that, but I do like to think I make a good pancake. I'm glad you liked them." she smiled at the mare before taking both plates to the sink.

"So, what would you like to do today, sweetie?

"So, what would you like to do today, sweetie?"

While Candy watched the other mare handle the dishes, she had already been considering what today would hold in store for the two of them. She stared at Sunny's flank, no doubt for two moments too long, but still continued her thought. "I still wanna be there to see you get your cutie mark...but who knows when that'll be?" She let out a somewhat sad sigh, "I really want you to find your special talent...I'm surprised it's not painting...or...y'know, making me feel loved." She smiled.

"Um....Bubble, what do you think is wrong with him? It's almost like he's.....afraid of me now? What did I do?"

Sky jumped off the desk and wallked over to Pondah.

"Look, you don't have any reason to be afraid of me. I understand that I'm more of the boss. For someponies, that's a good thing. It means that they won't slack off."

Sky looked back to Bubble and than to Pondah.

"It's been a long morning, what do you say we get something delivered for lunch? That storm is supost to hold until about 4 p.m. anyway."

"I don't know..." Bubble said as her ears flattened in concern. Hopping down into the dust, she knelt beside her friend. "Ponder? Whats wrong?" She murmured softly.

It was like back at the hotel - kind of. Not quite as bad but the similarities were there.

"It's okay Ponder, It's just me and..." An idea clicked in her mind. Pondah seemed fine most of the time: the two times she had seen him like this were both when they were around the pegasus. She didn't really understand why, or even if she was correct, but it was worth a try. "Sky, can we have a minute?"

Sky looked at Bubble confused, but nodded. "I'll just run upstairs and check out my new apartment," he said as he walked towards the staircase, but was distracted when he found the break room behind the office.

"What do you know, I find the only clean room in the whole building." He says to himself as he looks around the room.

Sunny giggled as she finished washing the dishes.

She turned around to face Candy, trotting over to the table and taking her seat again.

"I'm glad you think I'm good at that,' she sighed as her face fell. "Because sometimes I don't know if I'm good enough, and you don't deserve to feel anything less than loved."

Candy smiled, "As far as I'm concerned, there's only one mare in the universe who is good enough for me...and I'm already in love with her, so I don't expect that to ever change." She reached a hoof across the table to take Sunny's. "You and I will be together even after time ends." She smiled warmly.

Sunny gave Candy a smile; it was weak and tired, but happy all the same. she leaned across the table to nuzzle the mare.
"You said that I always have the perfect things to say, but I think that pony is you," she said. "You make everything better."
She scooted her chair around the table so she was sitting next to Candy. Leaning her head against her marefriend's, she sighed.
"I'm so happy I met you."

Candy blushed happily.

"I think we both have that effect..." The lax, emotional setting seemed to make the mare tired, but she knew now wasn't a time to fall asleep.

"I'm eternally grateful to have you." She chuckled lazily. "Also, weren't we supposed to do...something today? I have no idea what to do. Perhaps if we got the right stuff, I could mix up a few drinks for you." She glanced at her own flank, "After all, it's one thing I happen to be good at...though honestly, I'd still trade in serving drinks for your artistic talents." She chuckled.

A hoof slid down Pondah's face as he shielded himself from the dust cloud Bubble created by kneeling. When he felt stable enough, Pondah replied to Bubble's question. "He was really angry," Pondah whispered. "I was worried that I'd caused the anger or at least done something to make it so bad."

'Please don't shout at me...'

"Don't be silly! You haven't done anything wrong!" Bubble crooned, trying to quickly dust herself down a little before placing an (admittedly still not particularly clean) hoof over his back. "Whats really wrong? Surely you didn't think he was mad at you? I mean, I was kind of disappointed that we only found cleaning stuff instead of something fun, but its not something to get mad about..."

Pondah took some deep breaths to settle himself and reduce his shakiness. A frown tarnished his face as he moved his hooves in front of him. He gazed at them pleadingly, wishing they could hold some sort of answer to his problems. They didn't.

"That was what was wrong," Pondah whispered. "I was worried I'd upset him. Worried that I'd failed in some way. Worried that I'd managed to make a complete mess of things on day one. I've never had a job or anything like this in my life. I'm scared Bubble. If I mess this up, I may never have a chance like this again. I've hardly had a good start by irritating my boss already...."

Bubble sat (reasonably) still and listened attentively: mostly out of concern than from any sudden lack of energy.

"It's okay Ponder! Look at how good this place looks, we've done great already!" She said in a tone that was somewhat less cheerful than usual. "Ponies have problems. Sky has problems, you have problems... even I have problems! But that doesn't mean that you're the cause of them..."

She placed a hoof over his reassuringly.

"Curling up and hiding doesn't solve them - they're still there when you open your eyes again..."

Trailing off sadly, she realised that she was frowning, rubbed her eyes, shook herself a llittle and was back smiling sympathetically again.

"Don't worry! I'm here to help if anything goes wrong, promise!" She said, returning to her bright tone of voice.

"Don't worry," Pondah replied, his frown straightening to a blank face. "I'll try not to inconvenience others with my problems and make them depressed from now on."

Pondah waited a moment to feel calm before he slid out from underneath the desk. Immediately, he went back to sweeping the desks. His head hung low out of sadness and shame. Now that he was calm(er), the desks were cleaned quicker and more thoroughly than before.
