Question regarding the transformations

In the fight scene, the Humane Six gain pony ears and wings. But what confuses me is if they are still human or not following the transformation. I mean, they still look more humanlike than pony-like, and their "tails" are just extensions of their hair. What species exactly are they in this form?

Pony-girl! Sort of like catgirls you see in Japanese media , but with ponies! It did sort of feel like they were doing a kind of semi-reference to the 'magical gril' thing with EQ at times.....

yeah i think they where kind of a human/pony hybrid.

i dunno, they had pony stuffs but also human stuffs. i think you just don't need to overthink it. it was a movie that needs to be understandable for little kids too so i don't think there is any real reason behind their transformation.

There suppose to be pony human hybrids but that part of the movie was pretty nonsensical. Other than the pony ears and tails and wings they couldn't go further than that because of obvious reasons.

The wings only made sense for Twilight because she actually has them when her ponyself. The ears and tails are a magical version of the ones they wore in the Help Twilight song. If you remember the second Twilight left they lost the wings, etc. Still it's a cool scene. I loved seeing Twilight flying and the way Tara said "magic" was thrilling in a strange way.

I tend to leave this sort of thing at the "because pinkie"/"because magic" level of thought. Basically it seemed like something the writers just did because they wanted to and without much thought into "why" or "how".

Well, they're suppose to be hybrids from what I understand, affected by the elements of harmony to be more magical I think, which I assume caused them to become part pony, when Twilight left and the Elements of harmony left they lost the magic from it kinda, which is why they reverted back.

 

Thats my theory atleast.

Seeing as how this is a little girl's show at heart, I don't think there was any reason behind the transformations at all it was just for show and sparkly stuff. 

 

But my headcanon tells me that because the elements of harmony are from Equestria (land of poneez) so when Twilgiht activated the Elements, the human Mane 6 kind of got merged with the Pony Mane 6..I don't really know how to explain it : P

They were meant to be pony-human hybrids.  The elements of harmony were created in Equestria so they hold Equestria's magic.  They transformed because the magic went through them.  (I'm guessing)
