Scootadress 361 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 On DA, you always hear of a thief stealing pony art or other types of art to claim it as their work or bash it. its weird how often you see Pony thieves or other art that either is in the same general theme or anime-esque. (Not always, but its almost always cartoon, anime, or pony. If yout list some game art as cartoon or anime also, then its higher) Most of the time, its recolors or something similar. Makes me wonder: What's the point where theft is theft? Sbu 3 SCOOTALOO = Best CMC PINKIE PIE=Best Pony LUNA=Best Princess
MichaelxXxTrixie 433 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 Probably because of the amount of bronies out there and if you can steal someones artwork that is really good and people think it's your's you can get quite popular. 2 Thanks to the lovely Pink Mist for the magnificent signature! Smarts 1,623 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 It's because you can try to get popular from stealing really good art and claiming it your own. It never works because the thief is always caught. Makes me wonder why people even bother. If you practice drawing, you'll eventually get really good at it. Then, you can upload your own art and earn your popularity and respect instead of just stealing like a petty thief. 1 IF is best girl.
Scootalove 10,689 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 I think that pony art is stolen more often because, since the thief isn't able to just make their own art they decide to steal art and take credit for the art even if it's not their own. Stealing art is pretty useless since, they are unaware that they will get caught eventually and people will notice that it was stolen. duidamasterXD 9,627 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 Seems to me that there's a bigger sense of pressure to "contribute" in the brony community, as if it isn't enough to just like the show and to talk about it with friends or whatever. That might just be me though. If others feel that way, it might be behind some of this. People who don't have confidence in their own creative abilities might be tempted to just try to pass off others' efforts as their own, and get some of the validation they crave. I wouldn't know personally. I'm much too lazy to produce anything of my own and I've always thought of art as a way to express myself. Plagiarizing the work of others seems absurd and pointless from that standpoint.
GhostPony750 959 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 You need to be careful. Put your signature on everything you do, to keep others from stealing your stuff. Others will obviously steal your work to build a good reputation. But it's stupid since the people will find out, and you can't fill requests. Instaid of building a false reputation, try to stay yourself, it's better.
Motion Spark 7,807 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 Oh my God, I have recently heard of 2 theft stories. one was on tumblr, A guy, really nice, that I follow on tumblr was accused of using traced linework of another artist on his own pony calendar that he sold on his bronycon stand. I had mixed feelings about that, but I stood by my buddy's side. There was another story on dA, of a really talented girl that had several of her artworks stolen by some random guy on facebook and posted it like his own. She couldn't do much because his page was in spanish, luckily the page was shut down. As a rising artist in the fandom, the more exposure I get, it will be more likely that something like this would happen to me, I wouldn't like it, that's why I sign my artworks lately, a practice that I didn't have before. 1 My OC's: Motion Spark || Beat Spark || Rosebelle Sorry, I don't take REQUESTS! Rockymoo 2,137 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 Are you joking? They call it stealing? Do they even know what theft is? What's even worse is when they slap a copyright symbol on it or put the word copyright itself somewhere in the picture or on the original page. You have to legally register a work or product for the word 'copyright' to even hold water in ANY situation. What's more, ponies are almost as bad as Sonic characters when it comes to fandom originality. Recolors. Recolors everywhere. And they say other people are 'stealing' their 'copyrighted' ideas. Those two pet terms they have such a hard-on for are major hyperboles, to put it lightly. On 10/13/2013 at 6:59 PM, little gamie said: I'm fresh in school Hey, you. Either way, the artists who draw the pictures hold no claim over shit like MLP. I hate it when you must pay them for work you can download for free, and in reality.. ITS NOT YOUR CHARACTERS. If you make your OWN OC then fine, but make us spend like 6. Bucks or more for your mlp mane group, then that falls under bad. (I saw someone try passing off their work for 14. Dollars. Yes, its good, but not that good. ) SCOOTALOO = Best CMC PINKIE PIE=Best Pony LUNA=Best Princess

I can't spend my money on something another pretty much stole from the show. Example:The line arts, colors, full sketches all the bigger tumblers have for commissions seem stupid unless its by something original. (Like, a whole new portion or human no one owns) Plus, I would honestly just COPY the picture. Why when it is downloaded available? 1 SCOOTALOO = Best CMC PINKIE PIE=Best Pony LUNA=Best Princess

Then again, I guess those brats would consider me a pirate for doing so. It's like a bunch of kids at a playground, frankly. I'll never understand it. Like, if I created a character that's completely original and isn't from a pony template(which I have, I just hold onto them until I need one for something), I wouldn't charge a penny for someone to use it. In fact, I'd be flattered. The feeling of knowing you made a well-designed character is payment enough. 1 On 10/13/2013 at 6:59 PM, little gamie said: I'm fresh in school Hey, you. But sometimes some artists are doing awesome jobs, really creative and beautiful job, and other people steal the image and claim it their own. I'm actually drawing ponies sometimes, and I put my signature on them, just in case.

The issue here is in every case someone 'steals' a piece of online art or a video, everypony finds out about it fairly quickly. The 'thief' might get credit for a short while, but it's only temporary and they usually lose all credibility as an artist after being found out. 2 On 10/13/2013 at 6:59 PM, little gamie said: I'm fresh in school Hey, you. Wingnut 7,003 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 If it seems like pony art is being stolen more often, it's because MLP is a very hot item right now. And yes, that is an intentional double entendre. But stolen art is usually discovered pretty quickly and taken care of. People who want to compile others' art of a particular character, cartoon, or genre have common sense alternatives available. DA allows clubs to be set up for this purpose, for instance.
~Silver Essence~ 2,625 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 Credit is due where credit is done. There are a lot, and the fact that there are millions to find out whose a thief could be an easy way to get away clear. It's wrong, lazy, and stupid, luckily, most are caught and order is restored, as for me, I always give credit or mention if it's not mines like the signatures that get made for me.

The one thing I dislike more then people buying copyrighted material (that are doodles from DA) I hate the groups (MLP groups) that just LET them. I reminded one of the biggest mlp da groups to, ya know, FILTER the pictures, but no, thxey accept the recolors and the fake pictures the thieves posted. After I saw this done 15 times, reported each one, I told them. They still don't listen. Its a shame too, many get stolen and no one says anything in the groups. Onylex 2,837 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 Iv never had any of my art stolen on DeviantArt or at least I dont think I have.... but my art sucks anyway so I dont even know why someone would want to steal it. XD I also think that its some what the web sights fault that people do go around stealing it. I mean why is every deviation downloadable? I also assume that people are doing this because of the popularity on MLP right now. Iv never been able to just scroll through random deviations without having seen at least one pony or MLP related thing.
