In the UK you've basically got a choice between Sixth Form and College. College is like cheap University, whereas Sixth Form is like an extension to secondary school. Infact, most of our secondary schools have a separate Sixth Form block for studying during periods between classes. Assuming your A-Levels are decent you have a chance to get into a university, but it is quite difficult nowadays

 

Alternatively, of course, you could get a job or apprenticeship, but it's generally not preferred as you're less likely to end up with a career you're happy with.

@Equerio - Well they're the same, just grouped a bit differently and we also have some specialty high schools.

 

@Paspie - Apprenticeship, A-levels, sixth form.  This all sounds so complicated.  So what grade are you in then?

A-Levels are what you work towards in Sixth Form, in the same way as GCSEs are what you work towards in secondary school.

Okay so what is a GCSE?  Is it like a Diploma?  What you get when you finish?

 

I feel like I need to take a class just to understand this system.

GCSEs are just a basic set of exams, results of which dictate what kind of/how valuable your career will be afterwards. They will be on my CV (statement), job application forms, among other documents. A-Levels are an extension to that, which will open up more opportunities for me. Or so they say.

And that's why I said our system is the most simple one

8 years of elementary, then an entrance exam for high school, 4 years of high school, an entrance exam for university, 3+2 years of university. It couldn't get more simple!

An entrance exam into high school would be a good thing for us.  And 3 + 2 years?  Are all universities the same?

Here, 'high' school is pretty much compulsory.
