My opinion of the spongebob debate is that we're no longer as young as we used to be, and possibly find less enjoyment out of it than we would have otherwise if we're older. I think there's a small amount of truth to this, and I say the same thing for retro games, because I still enjoy them and yet I won't touch most of the newer ones.

I never liked it in the first place. But I think there is a legitimate problem with the show now. When one of your main characters tries to drive someone to suicide, and is presented as the good guy for the most part, you have a problem.

I'm not annoyed about the fact that the episode brought up the topic of suicide. I think it is possible for cartoons to handle that topic well, and still stay kid-friendly and even humorous. I also have no problem with dark humor, even when it get's really dark. But when you have your main character for the episode, driving someone else to suicide, not getting punished for it, and even being presented as in the right, you have a real problem.

While I have seen some classics in the recent SpongeBob episodes, most of them are all crap. The writing is bad, the jokes are bad, everything is bad. It's just stupid! Ah well, as long as Nickelodeon is getting tons $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ while keeping the show running...

You mean the adult party cartoon? Yeah, it did something like that. I've never seen too much of the original before though.

 

 I like really dark stuff. But it has to be handled a certain way, and have certain context for it. Otherwise it's just either boring, or just disturbing without an entertainment factor to it.
