I used to be a cartoon junkie, but between the lack of quality most have these days, and the fact that I actually began enjoying watching stuff that was a bit more mentally stimulating, I kinda lost that interest.

True, the standards are so low that a whole bunch of other shows would be much better taking hints from MLP on basic traits that should be common knowledge in the industry.

 

It really begs the question -- if MLP had existed like this in the 90s, would it really have been so special? Would it have been an influence on the shows that would come after it?

The show would have been just as good but there's no way it would have attracted as many fans back then, with the internet still in its infancy.

Yeah, that's something really cool about Super Meat Boy. Almost all of the unlockable characters are from other games.

 

 I think I'd still love MLP. But I don't think it'd be nearly as popular.

Even with a much smaller Internet, cartoons still had a good fan following. There was an early message board for Animaniacs that was fairly popular, and I think I remember hearing something about them touring the Warner Brothers Animation studio.

Animaniacs was pretty much the FIM of its day. A fantastic cartoon that could be enjoyed by people of every age.
