UGH heart burn hurts so much

Don't judge a book by its cover. You will truly understand it if you're just willing to read it.

Today must have been quite stressful for you.

It's this new payroll system. We changed the way we're tracking everybody's time punches (for people paid by the hour), and everybody on campus is being paid every 2 weeks now, rather than at the end of the month. I think a 2 week system will be much better. Hell, we should have been doing it this way years ago. But anyway, there have been bugs in the new system, of course. So I've really come under the gun and have had to up my game as someone in a somewhat managerial role.

I understand I have a college degree and they expect more from me because of it, but now I'm just like...they don't pay me enough for this

I have sent out multiple emails to people since Monday telling them not to worry. I sent out a long email this morning that attempted to address everybody's concerns and there were still people asking questions they should know the answers to. It was like...I hang up my phone, and not ten seconds later, it rang again. I'm tied up with that. And now one of my supervisors wants me to work on someone's travel reimbursement for a trip to China, but that won't come around until all the way out in September. I'm trying to tell her we need to put this travel thing on the back burner for now because we have someone who was potentially paid incorrectly. Then I thought I accidentally shredded a pretty pertinent document to that situation and spent about half an hour touching every piece of paper in and on my desk, but I couldn't find it because I've been disorganized as f*ck for about the last three weeks. I'd love to just take a week off and say, "See ya later, f*ckers!" but I can't because I'm down to only one week of time off. Plus, I need to be at my job, manning the oars because we're all new to this and it'd be unfair to the guy backing me up to take a week off now. Plus, I don't want to get into a car accident and suddenly need two weeks off from work. I'll go into leave without pay, and I cannot afford to do that. Not when I have a credit card payment, rent payment, bills, car payment, etc.

But you know what?

Everything's gonna be okay! :)

I've made it through much worse. I don't know if you know my life story, but I've been through some pretty messed up stuff. This is tough, but I'm going to persevere because it'll be worth it. Who knows? Maybe my boss will see the effort I'm putting out and give me a nice raise (ha! As if!). Regardless, I don't care if I end up carrying the team and never get recognized for it. I love to actually be that person who plays a huge role in something and never gets any of the limelight. An unsung hero, if you will. :twi:

Really, I just don't like the attention. I like being noticed, just not when I do something that would be normal to me. For instance, my job. I wouldn't mind it so much if I did something above and beyond, say, for instance, rescuing a man from a burning car. But just doing my job? Meh. I do that every day. It's my job to do my job. ;)

I'm just a little stressed out from work, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. No matter how far away it is, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. I've had to hold to that idea through the most challenging parts of my life, and I've somehow made it through.

Even if I'm trying to stay chipper about everything, it doesn't mean I don't want to scream at the f*ckers that call me

Oklahoma - If it's not hot enough to boil steel or give a snowman hypothermia, the weather will try to kill you with tornadoes.

Yeah, when I climbed into my car after work...

I was like "okay...keep it together. It's just been sitting in the sun today. Everything is okay. You're not gonna die today."

Surely enough, it had been sitting in the sun. By the time I got home, it was at a more acceptable 92°F. That's still very hot. :(

Oh, we're dealing with earthquakes, too. Just not as strong. But yeah, all the fracking is causing the earth to shake here, and the quakes are getting larger and more numerous by the year. They say that Oklahoma actually had more earthquakes in the last year than California though there were none of devastating strength.

In fact, it didn't take me long to find an article to back that statement up.

RATH: In just the past few years, there's been a surge of earthquakes in Oklahoma. They're hitting 600 times more frequently than they did before 2008. On average, Oklahoma has two a day with a magnitude of three or greater. That beats California.

Sorry buddy. Blame the greedy oil and gas companies that think it's okay to pump wastewater and other lubricants into the earth, thus polluting the land and groundwater. :baconmane:

I shit you not, people have been able to turn on the tap water in certain parts of the state, and they can hold a flame to the water. The water will actually catch on fire.

So we have flammable water and earthquakes up 60,000% and nobody's passing legislation to get this shit under control? What's it going to take? A massive hole to be blown in the center of the state due to irresponsible resources handling?

Of course, Oklahoma is known for doing shit like that. Best example we have is Tar Creek.

A town called Picher in the northeast part of the state was once a bustling lead mining town. It now has a population of 20 people because the government declared it unsafe for living there. The only people left are those with the hardest of heads. The piles of waste taken from the lead were thrown into massive heaps near the city. The winds would blow and carry lead dust into town. Over the years, the effects stacked up. Kids were doing poorly on tests, birth defects were becoming ever more common, and there was an incline in lead poisoning. Making matters worse is that many homes sat on pieces of land that had giant holes dug hundreds of feet under them. The ground under the homes could give way at any time. Nothing was done about it for decades. The piles of lead waste are called chat and you can actually see them from a pretty high distance in Google Earth. It's incredible nothing was done about it before.

That hill isn't natural. That's a pile of lead deposits. And it's extremely toxic. And people were letting their kids play on these.
