Do you not have a surge protector? Also, just plugging your PC into a surge protector isn't enough. You need to plug anything that is wired to it (even coax and ethernet cables that aren't protected) into your surge protector :3

 

I'm thinking about getting a backup battery, but we haven't had a power surge in over 7 months.
