People are jerks, they always have been and always will be.

 

It's something that happens in children and stays with us.

A sort of herd or pack mentality.

You try to fit in so that you're not picked upon.

Sometimes we simply don't fit in or are not allowed to fit in.

 

Hopefully by the time we're adults we are more understanding and accepting of others.

Unfortunately not everyone manages this.

I have become understanding and accepting of just about everyone these days (except criminals). I don't turn people away because they're different or lead different lives.

 

Unfortunately I've found it considerably more difficult to find people who understand me. The only friends I have are in the fandom and I'm not sure what I'll do when it goes away.

I'm not sure whether the love for the older series of MLP is riding on the coat tails of the current series. 

But one of the UK cons isn't just about FIM and has traders and fans of all generations

 

And many fandoms seem to persevere.

 I doubt the fandom's going away anytime soon 27, don't worry. Remember, season 6 is still confirmed at the least.

I suppose a fandom will die when the last fan dies. but many will go in cycles.

Sherlock Holmes seems to endure.  A TV reboot will send some people to the books and rekindle support.
