If it goes through the core of the engine we tend to get a sort of roast chicken/burned feathers smell

The fan blades in the engine are loose in their mountings, once the engines are started they gain rigidity and everything is normal.

As there isn't a brake on the shaft, the engine is free to rotate with the wind.

Recently the wind was behind us on stand and the engine is rotating *tink tink tink"

Passenger boards, informs senior cabin crew "that engine doesn't sound good, how long has it been making that noise. I'm an expert in gas turbines and it shouldn't sound like that"

SCC: I'm sure if it was a problem, the Captain would be doing something about it

Me from the flight deck (as man walks away) he's welcome to come and voice his concerns to me. Its probably been doing it for about 9hrs, since the aircraft parked last night. And I haven't seen one unwind itself off the shaft and fall out.

All passenger concerns are taken seriously ...until the passenger starts talking.
