Wish I could find reliable numbers for developer salary...

Stackoverflow is like "70k for starters" ; meanwhile Stackoverflow is like "avg is 30k"

Like... what!? I'm not gonna sysadmin or dev for 30k

You know 30k would be okay for entry ; but it's listed as the average.
That's 2500 gross ; now from 2030 onwards (unless politics suddenly decide to change) pension is 43% (used to be 60%!) of the last net salary.
You know what that'd get me? 900€/month.
That puts me barely above poverty.

Fun isn't it?
And yes I will worry about that now, even if I only face this in 50 years.
Why do you think I'm a member of a party?

Bunch of asswipes in our government and nothing else.

At the end of my time as a flying instructor I discovered that I had been eligible for income support from the govt :|

At least you don't have to spend lots of money to gain your commercial pilots licence in the first place ...oh :(

Living is so expensive these days. The cost of living has climbed so dramatically with the advent of such things as the internet and cell phones, but at the same time, growth in pay has stagnated. I got a good raise in 2015. Nothing in 2016 and this summer, they only gave me 1%. I moved in with my girlfriend partly because I want to marry her but also because $35K (this doesn't include deductions for  taxes, pension, insurance, etc) a year doesn't get you much. Maybe in 1997, but not today. I struggled to pay rent on a crappy apartment. I didn't run my heat much because that costs a lot of money. I've thought so much about selling my car because I can only barely afford it. If I didn't have it, I could actually get myself out of debt. But at least until I pay it off, it seems hopeless. I'll never buy a house because rentals are so goddamn expensive. This is a system that gives little chance to those striking it out on their own. You can't buy a house if you can't save a lot of money. You can't save a lot of money if your rent costs triple what a mortgage payment would be on that house. It's like they're discouraging our generation from buying one of the most valuable assets you can ever own: fucking land.

I've got my head up about it though. Seeing as I'm still young and new to my profession, I'm sure I'll get to buy a house at some point. Maybe one day I'll earn enough money that it won't be a huge problem all the time. Right now, though...

Just wish it was easier. :P

Have to start somewhere, would you fly a plane for €33k?

Where do I sign  ?

For me the problem isn't the income; supposedly first-year FOs are earning much more than in previous years, at least in the US, in addition to bonuses (which disclaimer, can be "revoked at anytime", somehow). It's the training and having to be a flight instructor for several years which definitely doesn't pay enough to sustain oneself, so one has to work two jobs.

If pay is actually much lower (towards $20-25K), then I'd be considering a different career, but again, supposedly pay and benefits are getting better.

Anything I should know that I don't already  ?

No, just the Il-linux-atti

A bit cheaper to learn in the States, I think it's about £/€100,000 this side of the pond for a "long course" - 0 flight time to frozen-ATPL and c200hrs

I went through the "self improver" which was a cheaper, 0 to ppl to cpl to instructor to IR to airline with about 2000hrs

I know we now have a 0hrs MultiCrew Licence that streamlines things for right hand seat with an airline, not sure if I've flown with any of them yet?

Which means the Germans are also involved apparently :o .

Haven't really looked into the European system, assuming they're mostly similar across countries.. it's moderately expensive anyways :L . If airlines are so fearful of not filling the cockpits, why not talk to people at the very bottom who are considering it, or talk to anyone really? And they are. I'm an exception in which I'm an "unskilled" Bachelor's candidate for aerospace engineering (meaning I don't think I'll be getting a lucrative job if any with it), so I can't do one of those accelerated programs because I already have one burden to take care of. I would've preferred just switching majors if it meant exiting with all the necessary ratings and whatnot, but everyone said getting a degree is a good thing, but they don't understand my situation and indifference to engineering :maud:.

But as I always say, it's a matter of "when", not "if" .

Ooh 113 posts and I'm a crystal pony :ooh: .

Do you think Rising would get triggered if I mentioned him  ? I forget if he was banned from this topic or the forum games altogether  .
