An earth pony villain

I was just thinking almost all proper villains in MLP always use some form of magic like Discord, Nightmare Moon, King Sombra etc etc. and i was thinking there should be a earth pony villian who is some kind of genius who plans to take over equestrian something like that. i thought it was a nice thought

I'd say with some form of industry or technology but flim and flam already stole that idea with their unicorn technology he/she most likely would be  a maniacal genius but it looks like magic either makes you a good guy or an A-hole according to MLP and their decision to give most of the villains magic

Even though I would personally love an main Earth Pony villain, I think it would be probably really difficult to make them seem anywhere near as threatening as many of the other villain, granted I believe the same problem would arrive with a main villain being a Pegasus. The biggest issue with the other two pony races being villains is that their skill-set is much more physical in nature while Unicorns, or any other Magical Creature, use magic which is innately unknown and somewhat threatening in nature. This just makes often better main villains because it seems more mysterious and devious. Though being a small-time villain, similar to Flim & Flam, Gilda, or Lightning Dust I could see it working.

I figured it would a good lesson for the mane 6 to learn that any pony can do anything he/she want and not be restricted just beacuse she/he dose not have wings or the power of magic

I really do want an Earth Pony villain since, I've seen a unicorn villain for now and I hope that a Earth pony villain is really threatening.

Perhaps they could tie one into an environmentally friendly message? It would be neat to see how that would be handled. Maybe he uses a type of rock and powers machines with them or something, thus creating black smoke that damages things. It could be a nice throwback to Dragonshy as well. Maybe have the characters remember that dragon at that moment, but this pony is a bit more hazardous at a faster rate. Having little flashbacks like that, I love that. It is like looking at memories within the new episode. Mystical Hallway from MMC, I loved that.

 

So, that is my idea. Not very original, at all, but it would be neat to see how they would do it.

Ohhhh I would LOVE a earthpony villain! 

 

But as stated by those above, they are very limited in posing as a big threat compared to the other villains.

I think  an earth pony could be a convincing if she or he has magic like Pinkie Pie or Zecora, only more powerful and applied to evil purposes.  Or they could have superequine strength and/or speed, perhaps attacking with a horde of warriors.  Like the Mongols, but without the riders.   Or be a pony Batman/Lex Luthor, with lots of gadgets.  Xanatos-level evil genius wouldn't hurt either, though that might be a bit hard to pull off in a show for young children.  I think a "Nightmare Pinkamena" (Pinkie Pie turned to evil somehow) could be a genuine menace.  Or a Pinkie clone that somehow managed to avoid being rounded up with the rest of them.

I actually came into this topic to say something similar to this.

 

I was thinking that since Earth Ponies are the ones who grow the food and are (mostly) the ones most connected to wildlife, raising animals, and nature, that an Earth Pony that uses nature magic, or causes rampant wildlife growth, could appear. Perhaps they use wild animals like Timberwolves or Cockatrices as their minions, or they cause vines to spread and rot down buildings. Something like that could definitely work. Maybe the ponies ticked off this Earth Pony when they disturbed him or her in their private forest or something.

 

Just an idea I'm spitting out. And while we're at it, I'd like a pure Pegasus villain too. Perhaps an Earth Pony and Pegasus attack, one with the fury of nature and one with the howling winds of weather, and the Mane Six have to stop them.

How about, sworm army of soldiers with a appearance of extremists which are Goats & Rams~ The Ambassador is a general ram with a red beard. Plus, there scheme to put citizen ponies in cages+ turn canterlot into a fortress for villians

Awesome idea! I was actually thinking of something like that too a little while ago, and how cool it would be to pit the Mane 6 against a villain mastermind who manipulates them without even using any magic....but, instead of waiting for the show to add such a villain, I wrote one into a fanfiction I'm making. xD

Combine the lack of Earth Pony antagonist ever appearing with the fact that the Mane Cast as of yet has no recurring villains, and we have a character opportunity. Ever since Trixie first appeared, villains have been monster-of-the-week variety, with little recurrence. The only exception is the stupidity of Snips and Snails, or the Bullying of Diamond Tiara.

An earth pony could work, but I don't think he'd be a main villain of any sort.  I just can't imagine an earth pony on his own even with a ton of power being able to cause as much trouble as the likes of Nightmare Moon or Discord.

Maybe this is the special quality of Earth Ponies. That none of them can get drunk with power and be as evil as unicorns/pegasi antagonist. With Diamond Tiara being the only exception. So far it seems like only unicorns can be truly evil

 

Theory aside I would like the see a Earth Pony villain. Maybe then we'd get to explore the race a bit more and get a redeeming quality for then so they aren't as inferior to the other two races as it seems.

Now that I think about it, it would definitely be unique and really interesting to see an Earth Pony villain, who would be actually close to being as epic as the rest of the villains we've already seen. 

 

The Earth pony would definitely have to be smart. He'd have to plan out their strategies and tactics well to be considered a worthy opponent of the mane 6. Especially when going against Twilight Sparkle. He would need a whole lot of intellect and wisdom to outsmart that unicorn.

 

Because it's an obviously apparent fact that unicorns, especially ones like Twilight, are more physically stronger and more powerful than Earth Ponies. He simply wouldn't be able to beat her, never mind the mane 6, without being super clever and careful enough.

 

Take Batman for example. He doesn't have any superpowers. He's as human as human can be. But he has the knowledge, the strategy, and the skill to take on most superpowered individuals. Heck he even once defeated Superman by knowing the guy's weakness and using it against him.

 

So yeah, I believe it is possible for some regular Earth Pony to make a great villain. They would just need to be smart and cunning enough to be considered a real threat and challenge for Twilight and her friends.

How to make an Earth-pony villain as threating as Discord or Nightmare Moon?

 

It's very simple, really, but in way they've already done it so it would be unlikely. You go the demagogue route. The charismatic individual that convinces other ponies to do things to do things that are anti-harmony.

 

Discord and Nightmare had a lot of personal power. But that means take out that individual and the threat is over. With a demagogue, you have everyone else trying to stop the heroes before they can even reach the individual. When all their relatives tell the Mane6 to back off their good friend, who's just doing what Equestria needs right now protecting everyone from the machinations of the evil Griffon Empire. Then demanding that the Mane6 turn over the Elements of Harmony to the demagogue for 'security'.

 

It doesn't have to be magic. Demagogues have been the big villains in RL time and time again. Convincing entire nations to go to war, commit terrorist acts, so on and so forth.

 

But that's a pretty nasty themes for MLP. I don't think they'll go there. There's too much RL in there, with terrorism, gun control, freedom vs security, and other themes that MLP won't want to touch.

 

But yeah, you can have an earth pony villain. They just have to be more *villainous*, rather than cartoony.
