What's your opinion on Pokémon mega evolution?

Kon'nichiwa, hinba to tane boba! I know there's quite a few Pokéfans out there as well, so what's your opinion on mega evolution? Mewtwo evolving? Discuss!

I don't see the point of the mega evolution, I know it evolves the Pokemon to make it even stronger than it's previous form. It probably doesn't even make the Pokemon overpowered, I just hope not.

I think there is nothing wrong with mega evolution. It's interesting and kind of a curve ball. I like it when Nintendo takes risks, and this one was a good one in my opinion. While I believe that they should have given Mawile and Absol normal evolutions, and Kangaskhan a pre evo, I'm fairly fine with mega evolutions. 

 

And Ampharos is my favorite pokemon, so I'm glad he's getting some recognition.

It confirmed that I would be getting Blaziken back, so I'm happy about it.

 

Overall I don't really know how Mega evolution works, so I can't tell whether it will be overpowered, or if it will even have a real impact on competitive play at all. I DO know that I like most of the designs they've shown so far, and that's good enough for me.

I'm pretty okay with it. I don't really have much of an opinion on it until I at least get to use it myself.

It looks absolutely stunning!

The designs look good, but I don't know how well the added feature will work in the actual game.

I'd have to use it and see all of the positives and negatives before I can have a real judgement. As it stands now, I think it's dumb how only a select few Pokemon have mega evolutions and how they haven't given us much information about them yet. We'll have to wait and see, though I do have a more pessimistic overlook on megas than an optimistic one.

In case this gets merged, in terms of the mega evolutions, It seems a bit out of place and it really reminds me of Digimon evolutions since they take place and are exclusive to battle, for the most part. I cannot say an exact opinion on them yet obviously, but the concept seems interesting but only if done right. There could be a lot of ways to screw that up.

They can't exactly give every pokemon a mega evolution. Way too many designs they would have to make. But anyway, as for not a lot of information...

 

They've released just about all the info you can get. It's only in battle. There's a button at the bottom of the moves screen that lets you activate it. You can use a move in the same turn you mega evolve. Certain mega evolutions get certain stat boosts. Certain mega evos get new abilities. And certain mega evos get different typings. Any other questions I'm sure I can answer.

Well, they /did/ have to redesign all of the Pokemon anyway. I don't think it would be TOO hard of a task to give every final evolution Pokemon another design, especially since it's most likely just a modified version of the original.

I just want the reason why. I mean, the series never once indicated that any of this is possible before. The canon of the series goes back hundreds/thousands of years and once again, no mention or indication of it whatsoever. I'm sure (I sure hope, at least) it's explained within the games or the anime, even if it's just something simple.

Well you could say this about a lot of things. What about pokemon that got evolutions in later generations? Why couldn't they evolve before? Even eeveelutions. You mean to tell me that no one made their Eevee's happy in first generation and no Eevee's evolved into espeon or umbreon? I don't personally think it's a big deal.

 

And for all the people saying "oh it's like digimon", You only noticed the slight similarities because they were called mega evolutions. If they were called something like, super evolutions, nobody would have noticed, I guarantee it.

Yeah, that's the one problem I have with Pokemon. They always introduce things like that without ever really explaining it. Even the fact that they'll state that there's X amount of Pokemon, and then a few years later say "By the way there's always been Y amount of Pokemon, what are you talking about?" Trust me, I love new Pokemon but I would like to get an explanation as to why they're never even mentioned that it's possible they exist.

I'm not one of those people, I assure you. It's a similar concept, but I don't think that they're "ripping off" Digimon so to speak.

Anyway, I think the concept is cool. It just adds another dynamic to pokemon battles. I'm really interested to see how it will all work out. I have really high hopes for Mawile. (Buffing Mawile made me pretty much instantly like the idea  ).

Honestly, the temporary nature of the evolution makes it pretty to natural say "hey, that's like digimon". Not to say that Digimon is the only series to ever do some kind of temporary transformation but Pokemon and Digimon have always been similar in plenty of ways and thus they are often compared. Digimon has been doing the "temporary evolution in the middle of battle" for like, ever now, and now Pokemon introduces the same concept into their very own game. It is like Digimon; it's similar but not the same. It's easy enough to notice the similarities even without the Mega title; that just made it easier to do.

 

But in the end, it's not even that big of a deal. Most people that I see bringing up the similarities are just poking fun. And I always get a kick out of people saying stuff like "Mawile digivolve tooooooo...... Mega Mawile"

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I actually really loved Digimon. I think this is a great opportunity to give some of the lesser used pokemon some attention. Some of the mega evolutions also look unbelievably cool and I would love to have one of them on my team. That being said... Mega Farfetch'd and Mega Luvdisc PLEASE, gamefreak!

I'd have to say, that would be something. Thing is, some pokemon and ledgendaries just aren't ment to evolve into a mega state. Some mega evolutioins look really cool and could probably battle, but if almost all of them were to battle, it would kind of take the fun out of it. It'd be a one-hit-KO kind of thing.

I think your right and at this point you have to ask why would this be added.

 

I know pokemon Idea must be running a little bit thin, but adding mega evolutions? It's just not needed!

 

Mewtwo is already banned in competitive play anyway in most places so making it even more powerful wouldn't help anything

Are you saying that this is an evolution? beucase im pritty sure it sin't and is already in a previous game (is it emerald? or the one after?)

They've never claimed that there aren't new Pokémon that just haven't been found yet. It's also the case that a lot of new evolutions that get introduced require specific locations, such as Magneton -> Magnezone only happening at Mt. Coronet. That doesn't explain ALL the evolutions, Espeon and Umbreon as prime examples of that (though arguably, day and night didn't exist before G/S, so there's no way anybody could have completed the requirements in the first generation games), but I don't think they ever specifically said "this is the final number, all pokemon everywhere in the world."
