How would you balance the elements of harmony?

There a bit much, seriously, pull out the 6 elements, activate, electrical magical, rainbow death, and rejoice.

 

there's no draw back, no side affect to using them, they don't cause head aches, tummy aches, hair lose, split hairs, they don't make your make up run, chip your hooves,

Imagine if it ate part of your soul (LOL okay that's to much)

what if... they aged you one year each time you used them?  They exhausted you to use them?

a long list of possible side affects from prolonged use,

from blindness, to deafness, to derped eyed (LOL),

maybe even having all the harmoney sucked out of you from prolonged use.

 

Kinda like steroids, making you weaker in the long run..

 

I mean seriously pinkie pie could be using the damn things to roast marshmallows (and likley would lol)>

You're right, artifacts like those usually have pretty severe drawbacks. Personality modification is usually the main one, slowly turning you into some kind of monster mentally and maybe even physically. A slow version of what happened to Sunset Shimmer.

Honestly it may be viewed as broken or OP as some people would put it, but the fact that the Elements of Harmony MUST be worn by the 6 chosen and they have to be in a normal state of mind in order to activate them kinda sorta make up for it. Also don't forget that the Elements of Harmony require some time to charge in order to unleash the rainbow of awesome sauce, so the main six are vulnerable during the charge up.

Even inyuyasha's back slash wave didn't work in every episode.  and that was a little girls show.  Yes it's a little girls show doesn't mean little girls can't handle a laser, magical blast LOL.  (PPG anyone).

 

I mean even if we got it in reverse where a bad guy corrupts the elements of harmony and has 6 evil bad guys charging them up and rain bow dash goes "FUCK THIs, LEORY JENKINS!" and bums rushes them while their being charged,

I'd take that to.

I think that the easiest way to balance the elements of harmony would be a set of scales, but i guess if you think about it twilights element is larger than the others making it unbalanced as well as different crystal density so i guess you'd need a set of scales with an offput slider. its at this point when relise that i took the title of this thread the wrong way... :|

Seeing as all races have a degree of innate magic, it probably consumes that. This means that it consumes their magic, which regenerates before the next time they use the elements. Trying to use the full power of the Elements in a short span would not work. Seeing as friendship is magic, it may draw on the magic power from the Mane 6's friendship. There are no physical or mental side-effects that we have seen, so it must draw on something subtle yet significant.

I'm not sure I'd blame the elements on making them tired.

Chasing after rain bow dash, dragging pinkie around, lugging rarity's rock (even though we agreed not to talk about that ever again,),etc,etc.

I mean the return of harmony was a full day and a half as far as labor goes.  Not to mention that twilight had to use her magic 5 times to re awaken her friends own lost friend ship.

 

I would think based on the fact all the physical, mental, and spiritual wear and tear twilight had to pull in that episode and than still used the elements (twice)

they don't have any kind of cost.

They all have to be present as well as the artifacts themselves. They have to be in the right state of mind ( I'm assuming even if Rainbow Dash was there when they were all corrupted it wouldn't work).

 

If either of these aspects doesn't happen the power of the elements won't work. Otherwise you could say they the EoH are basically the Deux ex machinia.

The elements of harmony are indeed the Deux ex machinia that the writers use to have the quick endings the show often does.  As for why the bad guys stand around and wait to get blasted that happens in all sorts of other similar shows, power rangers, magical girl stuff like sailor moon, and others where the bad guys just stand around wait while the heroes morph, power up, charge up their super weapon.  I find that annoying but every show that has similar elements does that.  They'd have to shorten the beginnings and or middle of the story to make room for a better written ending.  The style of the show seems to be very quick endings.  Though the rest of the episode I'd say is very well written and I do like it, one main weakness in the writing is the very quick endings and the way they are brought about.
