Applejack was honestly becoming frustrated with Red's seemingly stubborn refusal to forget about Neon despite the fact they already broke up. Didn't he realize that there was another mare watching the sunset with him? Applejack could only give herself a sigh as he continued to count his losses... She then decided to stretch out her hoof to Red's back, hoping that he would notice... that there was another mare more than happy to watch the sunset with him...

Red felt the hoof against his back, a perceived romantic maneuver from the orange mare. Sure, she was cute and his longtime friend, but Red still wanted Neon despite her making it apparent she did not want him the way he wanted her. Red did not put his hoof around Applejack, however, as he still felt his heart in Neon. In addition, how did he even feel for Applejack? That was a question in which the answer he didn't even know!

Applejack was increasingly downhearted when Red didn't seem to notice her caring for him and her looking out the sunset with him. Wasn't that what he wanted? Applejack had enough. She quickly let her hoof off and stormed back to the upper deck in frustration. Red was too stuck with Neon. This was probably the time she had to move on anyway. They were probably nothing more than friends anyway, and Red was being extremely immature about Neon. She just had enough.

Red Talon saw her storm up to the balcony, unbeknownst of her feelings towards him. However, he continued to sit there, staring off into the horizon, tears welling into his eyes.

It was the first day of First Grade for the young Red Talon who recently moved to Ponyville from Canterlot. Meeting his teacher for the first time, he excitedly sat down in his seat near the front of the classroom. Despite this, he knew nopony here, and unfortunately for him, a few foals decided to pick on him for his coat pattern. Unlike the solid pattern of most ponies, Red had a three color pattern- a yellow base, an orange outline, and a red, talon-like design across his body.

"That's not funny!" Red could only respond, knowing full and well from his parents to never pick on another foal in return.

@@Steel Accord, Clover was on her hooves, albeit unsteadily, but she hid this as best as she could when she faced the sea serpent.

 

"I'd quite like your advice on how to proceed," she replied to his request. "Firstly, in the matter of your cousin. I could of course change him back to his normal shape, but not at this moment as I need to regain energy. And I think his threats towards my friends deserve a little punishment. So I'd like you to look after him til I am ready to change him back, and then exact a promise that if he threatens us again, that you will deal with him. I think he'd prefer that to me dealing with him.

 

"Second, you must have travelled these seas a hundred times. Can you give us any warning of future dangers, or troubles that we might have to surmount?"

 

The white unicorn mare felt very strange. Her experience had been unsettling, but also, in a way, reassuring. Despite what Twilight had told her, Clover hadn't felt that she was fit to become a Princess at all, and now, it was different. Princess Celestia thought her fit, and apparently, this was the second to last step before her eventual assension. Clover wondered what this could be, and whether it would be even harder than the second to last step.

"I will do better than advise you!" Steven proclaimed. Still holding his cousin in his hand, he wrapped the Skidbladnir in his coils. "Allow meeeee to help you reach the North!"

 

Wit that, the ship was gently carried across the great sea until the friends reached the icy shore of the Frozen North.

 

Steven waved his goodbye and promised "to scold Reggie something awful" as they both swam away.

 

Now the crew of the Skid had to decide how to proceed.

Taking it a bit easier on things now that they even had someone literally take them to the north, he took a few deep, refreshing breaths of cold, northern air as they approached the icy shores.

 

"I guess I should say 'Home Sweet Home', but there be still a long way back home... Got a good climate though, so I guess I am fine with this." he said, as he fluttered his wings, stretched his body and started shaking for a few seconds, as if to freshen his coat and feathers with the air.

Applejack trotted down angrily to the deck of the ship, when they were suddenly thrust into the Norther regions by the large swooping of the familiar serpent. She had seen the serpent and was slightly heartened that he pushed them to their destination. The quicker this was done, the better it would be for her to forget about Red forever. It didn't seem like he cared at all. She had feelings for him, and he refused to see it. What was the point in hoping for Red to come around? It was impossible at this point. When they arrived, Applejack briskly put on her winter clothes that she packed in her saddlebag, trotted out of the ship, and shouted,

 

"Well isn't everypony gonna hurry up and git goin? We ain't helpin' Equestria the longer we wait! C'mon!"

"You leave that pony alone! Just 'cause he's different don't mean you poke at im! You wouldn't like that done to you wouldn't you?!" She then took her seat, motioning for the red stallion to come and sit beside her for the class. Hopefully, he would become a very close friend to the young filly...

Red Talon nodded, and wiped his face of his tears. He trotted right next to the orange filly, and sat in the seat right next to her.

"So... what's your name?" he asked her, "My name is Red Talon. I moved here from Canterlot, and I'm new... and nervous..."

Young Applejack saw Red sit beside her for the class. She was happy that somepony was sitting beside her other than the other rowdy ponies. Sure she could be rowdy, but was a determined pony. She wasn't great at her classes, but she tried her best, and that was all that mattered to her. She noticed the red stallion speak out and say his name to her. She also noticed the look of fear from his face. She wanted to comfort him and show that Ponyville was a very nice place to be, away from the fanciness of Canterlot. She gave him a warm smile before replying with a giggle,

 

"Mah... mah name's Applejack. And don't worry about being new 'ere. You'll get used to it!"

Clover was surprised, but heartened by the sea serpent's offer of help. It certainly cut down the time, and soon they were at the frozen North. She shivered in the cold air and made sure that she was wrapped up in a warm coat and scarf before stepping ashore. She put the homing spell on the ship so they could be sure of finding it again.

Red Talon nodded, and smiled at Applejack. He missed his old friends very dearly, but found a friend in the orange filly quite quickly.

"Maybe after school," Red said to Applejack as the teacher entered the schoolhouse, "Do you want to go and play with me? I don't have a lot of friends here yet."

Neon held on to the ship as it shook. When serpent started attacking she wasn't sure what to do, she wasn't a unicorn and wasn't sure where weapons are, if there is weapons on the ship...not that she was that great with weapons. She just stood back cause she noticed Clover had a spell to stop him.

 

When everything was fine and they were heading towards the North again Neon sighed, so many things had been happening...She wished she was a unicorn so she could help out more. Neon thought maybe Steel could give her a couple lessons on how to use a sword, he had taught her how to use the...she tried to think of the name of the thing but couldn't....Round weapon thing...

Neon trotted up to steel "Hey, do you think you could teach me some tips for using a sword? If we ever have time during all this craziness that is"

Applejack blushed slightly when Red asked her if she wanted to play with him after school. As a young filly, a colt asking her to play with him wasn't very common. She giggled before replying with a smile,

 

"Sure Red! We can hang out after school and play some ball! Ah'd love to have a new friend with me!"

Applejack blushed slightly when Red asked her if she wanted to play with him after school. As a young filly, a colt asking her to play with him wasn't very common. She giggled before replying with a smile,

Red and Applejack walked from school together, back to her home at Sweet Apple Acres.

"So," Red Talon asked, taking Applejack's lead, not knowing where he was going, "Where is your house, exactly?"

He was very much accustomed to city living, and a barn house would come to be a bit of a surprise to the city foal.

The school bell had just rung and Applejack excitedly ran out of the schoolhouse, motioning for Red to come with him. When they ended up walking home together, she heard Red ask him a question about her home. She then blushed slightly. No colt was really taht interested with her home, let alone her family!

 

"Mah... Mah house is just down the road from ere! We call it Sweet Apple Acres, the largest apple farm in these parts!" Applejack then shyly asked Red a question, wondering what life with the fancies must have been like...

 

"Red... what's life like where you live? Ah mean... yer will all those fancy people... Do you like it? Are they as stubborn and dumb as they always say round ere?!"

Evening was rather surprised at the second sea serpents act in kindness, but was grateful for it too. As they arrived upon the North, a shiver ran up Evening's back and curved her mouth into a scared smile. She didn't want to admit to herself that she was developing a fear of the cold, but she felt as though she couldn't exactly deny it either. It reminded her of something.. something that was never actually there, something that was so close to her grasp, but was still too far at the same time. 

 

She shook it off, and put her head higher. No, that was stupid. It was ridiculous, simply ridiculous. For a few moments, she stood in place with her head high, but soon sighed and drooped it low

 

'I wish..' she thought to herself 'Under my circumstances, its completely possible'

 

It was strange. Evening had always been rather good with the cold, but now she was starting to develop such a scare for it that it that it invaded her everyday thinking? A part of her had to agree that it was rather preposterous. Another shiver ran down her shine as a small, cold breeze tickled her skin. She inhaled deeply and prepared herself for what there might be to come..

Sterling was finally out of the ship. All he could see in the horizon were many mounds of snow. He saw Evening trot along with him, clearly harbouring a growing fear of the cold environment that was the north. Noticing this, Sterling quickly opened his saddlebag, unfolded the coats, and gave on to Budding in an effort to help her put it on. Sterling then put on his own coat, feeling much warmer after that.

"I suppose I could, Neon. Did you loose those chakrams from when we fought Raven? You seemed quite proficient with those. Keep in mind, not all swords are created equal. There are rapiers, gladiai, scimitars, cutlasses, arming swords, long swords, great swords . . ." Steel kept going with the list. His passion for the subject clear in his reverent tone.

Red Talon reached into his bag and drew his single action, spinning the chamber and twirling the gun. He looked down at it, hoping that he wouldn't have to take another pony's life again, but if the time would call for such actions, he was surely ready to tackle it full force.

Filly Applejack arrived home to her Sweet Apple Acres.She could see the large plots of land that were filled with apple trees whose apples were ready for picking. She could see Big Mac in the distance hard at work picking off the apples. When Red asked Applejack where her home was, she pointed at the large red and purple barn that greeted them. She giggled and spoke teasingly

 

"Yer so silly Red! Yer starin at mah house now! Ah know, it's huge!"

"Oh that's just not fair!" Steel said to Red with a laugh. "How am I supposed to be effective when you can just shoot our enemies? Not that I'm complaining or saying I could do better. I could shoot straight in the air right now without hitting snow, my aim is so terrible."

The house was indeed large. Almost the size of the mansions he had seen back when he lived in Canterlot.

"Wow," Red responded, "I never knew they had houses this big here in Ponyville!"

He trotted up the path, looking around at the apple orchard that surrounded them.

"Is your family here right now?"

Applejack giggled when Red stared admirably at her house. She punched Red on his body and spoke with a giggle,

 

"Silly Red! It's completely normal round these parts! We got tons of land for buildin' our homes! Not like Canterlot or Manehattan! And yes, our family's here right now! They're hard at work around the home, tryin to get dinner ready!" It was then that Applejack also asked Red,

 

"Red... what's it like in Canterlot? Ah've never been there before... Ah've always wondered what it was like to be with fancy people, whether it be from Manehattan or Canterlot!"

Sterling was trotting along the white, cold snow with Evening. He felt shivers down his hooves despite having all his warmest clothes on. He looked towards Steel and asked with a shiver,

 

"Steel... Are you feeling cold...? We... we need to find shelter soon..." Sterling then turned to North, who looked comfortable in his homeland of the North. He then spoke to him with a shiver,

 

"North... any ideas on how close we are to civilization... we may need more supplies and warmth..."

"It is a bit nippy." Steel said, mildly perturbed. "Pegasi like North, Red, and I, can withstand colder temperatures, helps when living in the frigid high atmospheres. I do see your point though." Steel looked back at the Skidbladnir. "Couldn't we just stay on the ship though? Certainly it's better than wondering around all night looking for shelter."

Evening tried her best not to shiver profusely as she trotted along beside Sterling. She was grateful for him giving her a coat to use, she was kept from freezing to death because of it and a black scarf Evening had packed for herself.

 

The mare stayed close to her husbands side, maintaing slight warmth between their touch. Not only was it sharing hest, but reassuring and comforting as well. Being with Sterling always make her heart glow brighter, even with the freezing snow beneath them he gave her enough peace in her heart to ignore it, almost completely.. But from her not-particularly-noticeable-or-feasible devolving fear of it, her mind wasn't exactly optimistic.

 

When Steel questioned of going back to the ship, Evening couldn't help but nod in agreement

 

"That is very true" she said "Even if the pegasi are good with lower temperatures, being on the ship would be better for all of us, whether we posses a horn, wings or neither"
