I don't get how the ignore list works on the forums

There doesn't seem to be really any information, at least not that I can find, on how the ignore list works. When you put a user on your ignore list, what exactly does it do? Does it just hide their posts? Can that person still see your posts? Does the person know that you put them on your ignore list? If I could just get some information on how the whole thing works, I would appreciate it.

So far as I know (and I may be wrong) it hides their posts from you, though you do have the option of clicking on where they have posted to bring it back up. It also prevents them from replying to your posts or statuses as well as sending PM's.

However, they can still see you and you will still see their status updates. I think. Again, could be wrong here. So I think they would eventually figure it out thought there is nothing they can do.

The benefits of putting someone on your ignore list:

 

-Their posts will be hidden (but there will always be "show post anyways" button you can click on in case you want to see the post anyways)

-The user can no longer post on your status updates

-The user can no longer send you any PM's

 

And no, the user doesn't get notified or anything like that if you choose to ignore them

Hey there! Ignoring a user allows you to control (via Manage Ignore Prefs) whether you want to hide or see a user's posts and signature, and block their messages. Anyone you've ignored can see what you post unless they have you on their ignore list, and no they don't know that you have them on your ignore list unless you block messages from them. Then it's kinda obvious. :3 (Yes, they get a message saying you've blocked messages from them.) You can also choose to add or remove users from the same place and ignore all signatures forum-wide. Hope that helps!

(Oh and by the way, you can't ignore admins or mods. )

It should be pretty self-explanatory, but when you go to add a user to your ignore list, you can choose whether to ignore their post, signature, messages, or a combination of the three.

 

 

Just check the boxes to block the respective feature.

 

Checking "messages" also blocks the user from commenting on your status updates, by the way.

Yes and yes. You will not be notified of replies from that user, however.
