planning A Different Kind of RP ~Sign-ups closed!~

Hi, everypony! I'm sure my incredibly well thought-of title has left you with a lot of questions, so I'll do my best to explain xD

 

So lately, I've been thinking about writing a story about a certain group of ponies that were struggling to survive, but with an interesting twist- one of the group members has the opportunity to undo one of their past decisions and live out the alternate outcome. For example, let's say Twilight Sparkle has to pick between decision A and decision B at one point in the story, and ends up going with decision A. If something tragic happens as a result of her decision, she has the option to go back and time and choose decision B. This will most likely be achieved by teleporting Twilight into a parallel universe in which she chose decision B. The story would progress as usual, but Twilight cannot go back to that same decision again. She now has to experience the story as if she'd chosen decision B, for better or for worse.

 

Recently, I've decided that it might work better as an RP here, for two main reasons:

-One person, a narrator perhaps, could twist the story by adding obstacles, forcing the main character to make decisions, while also presenting them with the opportunity to undo them

-It would be fun to have a surprise twist thrown into the RP, as every participant would have to adapt to the decisions and undoing of certain decisions.

 

SO, if you'd like to apply for the RP (As the main character, group member, or narrator) feel free to leave your post below! I have a few basic rules for this, as well, which do seem kind of obvious, but I have to relay them anyway...

 

-No godmodding

-Please, have a decent OC. No alicorns, cyborg ponies, vamponies, etc.

-As the RP progresses, please go along with what the narrator decides to do. The course of the RP is determined by him/her, not by you. you may introduce a new character if yours happens to die/get lost, etc.

-As the narrator, please keep all decisions, twists, and consequences within the realm of possibility. Only kill off a character if necessary to progress the story.

-Lastly, grammar was invented for a reason. Please keep all replies narrative. Length is not a big issue, as long as you get your point across in a neat, grammatically correct way.

-anyone who doesn't subject to these rules is subject to removal from the RP

 

Anyway, if you'd like to leave an application below, please either fill out the form below, or tell me why I should choose you to be the narrator. I, myself, am going to participate as a group member, so I won't have a direct impact on the story. Also, if you have any ideas for what situation the ponies might be in, or have any questions about the RP in general,feel free to share them along with your submission! Ahem...

 

So yeah, it will be hard, but if its pulled off right it would be amazing. I'd like to apply - and despite being more of a follower than a leader, I'd like to apply as the mane character. Why? Because one of Scribe Shields primary flaws is his complete inability to think ahead and anticipate the consequences of his actions and this seems like the perfect chance to play on that angle.

 

So... wall of text aside: my (extremly drawn out) application!

 

 

 

Name: Scribe Shield

 

Race: Unicorn

 

Group Member/Main: Main

 

Appearance: White unicorn, slightly more physically built than most due to favouring physical labor over magic. Wears armour which is a family heirloom.

 

Cutie Mark: A scroll with the image of a shield on it. The scroll represents the fact that while he never reaches his own potential, he tends to (unintentionally) cause others around him to do so. The shield... well it's self explanatory.

 

Personality: Good natured and relaxed, Scribe is laid back - perhaps too much so at times. He has an innate need to protect others and 'play the hero' but rarely stops to consider the consequences of his actions; charging head on into problems regardless if other options that might be available if he stopped and thought for a moment.

 

Other: He is barely able to use magic: shielding spells are the only things he is able to use with any skill besides basic telekinesis - and doing so is a massive strain on him at that.

 

He actually only comes across as competent at what he does by a combination of physical strength, being too stubborn to give up and an unreasonable amount of good luck.

Name: Castor and Pollux

 

Race: Unicorn and Earth Pony

 

Group Member/Main: I guess group members

 

Appearance: Castor is a light blue unicorn with a shaggy white mane, while Pollux is a light lavender Earth pony with a shaggy white mane

 

Cutie Mark: Castor's cutie mark is a brown money pouch with a silver Gemini symbol on it. Pollux's cutie mark is a brown money pouchwith a gold Gemini symbol on it

 

Personality: Castor is serious and mature, and is very strategic. He is the brains in Gemini, and makes sure his brother doesn't foil their plans. Pollux is headstrong and reckless. Having a larger build then Castor makes him the muscle in Gemini. Although he tends to rush things and make dumb mistakes, he is about as smart as Castor and knows when enough is enough. He's protective over anyone he's close to.

 

Misc. Info: Castor and Pollux are a Robin Hood-like duo by the name of Gemini. They always wear dark gray hooded cloaks and cover their faces when on a mission. They were orphaned at a young age and grew very close because of it. I'd also like to point out that a lot of the stuff I just typed was made up on the spot as I was beginning to dislike their back story as both being unicorns.

Is the narrator forbidden to have a character? The layout of this RP is a bit unclear right now though the idea is kinda cool, though a.) the DM should probably be the narrator and b.) it's kinda unfair to have a "main" everyone must follow blindly. It's irritating having little freedom. :c

Maybe I didn't describe the mane character well enough x)

We won't be following him blindly, I just used the term to describe the one pony who makes the decisions. The rest will indirectly affect his decisions, as the group as a whole is what really advances the RP and gives it life. The narrator can have a character, I guess, as long as they don't bias the outcome of the story in favor of who they're controlling x)

Also, I wouldn't make for a great narrator- I wouldn't be able to come up with twists as the RP continued :/

Basically like the Mane Six, is how I interpreted it. You could call Twilight the leader if you wanted but it's not called 'The Twilight Sparkle Show' - they are all equal.

If you can pull it off, then I see no reason not to ^^

Just make sure to use separate paragraphs if you're going to describe different points of view in one post.

Personality:  Optimistic and creative. She can be courageous or uninspired at times.

Appearance: A yellow coated mare with a deep blue mane which flows along her neck. She has a relatively average build, with no real physical advantages or weaknesses.

 

Cutie Mark: A quill inside of a piece of parchment.

 

Personality: Scribble tends to be more emotionally distant from other ponies than anything. She keeps to herself often, and isn't incredibly easy to make friends with. When she does talk, she almost always sounds serious, uninterested, or sarcastic. However, she's incredibly logic-smart, and her decisions will be based on what's good for the group, even if it's at her cost. She may be distant, but she doesn't want another pony's death on her hooves.

 

Misc. Info: Carries a notebook and a quill, and keeps a journal or record of events, as well as small works of fiction wherever she goes.

Pollux and Cleo seem to be similar, except Cleo likes to tease everypony, and make 'em frustrated/angry too. Not sure 'bout Pollux :3

I don't see a problem with adding more, as long as everypony can handle it x)

Also, if we get more participants, I might have to ask @@Ampharos to use one character instead of two. It makes it much simpler when you look at the person who posted, and know instantly which character is responding. It's just easier to keep track of, if that makes sense

I imagined it as sort of a survival RP, since the looming threat of death could affect the decisions of the mane character. However, what we're surviving and other types of RPs are up for discussion, as well.

 

Also, does anypony know how I can change the title of the thread, or at least tag it so that others know that sign-ups are closed?
