gaming Super High-School Level Topic! (Dangan Ronpa)

I love Dangan Ronpa Abridged Thing :D. Have you read any more of Chapter Three, Antismurf?

Ack!  Sorry for the late response...  I should probably follow this topic; I didn't originally because I didn't want to have an excessive amount of notifications, though I can see that that probably won't be a problem...

Anyways, I have gotten farther in Chapter 3, but not by much.  The reason is twofold: this was finals week and I had projects and such to finish; and I also spontaneously got into the anime Attack on Titan.  Those are both done now though, so I can continue on!

Concerning the chapter itself:

Well this chapter is certainly a bloodbath...  It's sad to see Saionji go, she was an interesting character.  Ibuki was annoying, but I'm sort of sad to see her go too.  I'm also completely stumped on who the murderer could be.  At the moment, I'm theorizing that it was Nidai, since he seems to be mysteriously absent from the hospital (Kuzuryuu was there the next day if I remember correctly) and if he was also affected by the Despair Fever, we have no idea how that changed his personality.  Plus, wouldn't it be soul-crushing for him to survive being shot by a bazooka only to get executed for murder just a few days later?  So yeah, my prediction is that it was Nidai.

Understandable, I just got done with my finals week myself :( (Hugs)

As for your comments/predictions

Someone pointed out that each of the murders have something in common with the ones from the first game. Both chapter ones involve a stabbing, and the person you talked to most when the whole game started (Maizono/Komaeda), both chapter twos involved a serial killer, both chapter threes were a double murder, etc. Just thought it was cool. Anyway, this one is complicated as heck. Really interesting predictions, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you think when you find out whodunit.

Alright, so that finishes up chapter 3...  As usual, spoilers are below.

So there were several times throughout the trial where I thought, "Huh, maybe it was Tsumiki," but I deemed those thoughts to be absolutely ridiculous because she's far too nice and adorable.  Sure, it makes sense that she could catch the Despair Fever, but it would have been obvious if that happened, right?  Wrong, and that makes me sad, because I really liked Tsumiki...

I'm somewhat confused about the motive though.  So Tsumiki regains her memories and therefore remembers that she hates everyone and wants to kill them.  So I'm guessing she hated everyone and wanted to kill them before now?  If that's the case, why didn't she?  Unless her actual motive was that she wanted to be reunited with the person she loves (???) and in escaping the island she could do that, but that doesn't seem right either, since she says during the execution that she'll still be reunited...

Anyways, I'm glad that Nanami and Gundam are still alive (for now... one's probably going to kill the other in the next chapter).  Though I don't know what to think about Robo Nidai...  I hope that they do something cool with him, because otherwise I kind of would have preferred if he just died.  I have no doubts that they will though.

In the end, it was an enjoyable, but confusing case.  I still prefer the last one, but there's nothing wrong with that since I found the last chapter to be so good.

Agreed, I thought it was strong but unable to live up to Chapter Two's trial. Which is admittedly, not an easy thing to do.

Tsumiki's motivations make a lot more sense after you find out her backstory, as the game goes on and if you read her free time events, which I can find for you if you like. Someone on tumblr did an amazing character analysis of her as well, which overall shot her up to being my sixth favorite character in the series. It'll also make sense once you find out about the person she loved.

So are Nanami and Gundam your favorites, then?

Of the survivors, yes.  I find that Nanami, though being uninteresting at first, has made a really good replacement for Togami as a leader, and Gundam is just really fun.  For Gundam though, I mostly just don't want him to die because I would feel so badly for the Four Dark Gods of Destruction.  What would happen to them?  Who would restrain their awesome destructive powers take care of them?  Or would they just be executed/murdered along with him?  :(

Fair enough, fair enough. I grew to like Nanami a lot too actually, and I especially like fanart of her drawn with Chihiro.

I don't necessarily ship them ( hard to since they've never met and stuff :P) but I kinda like the idea of them begin friends and goofing off with their electronic things together. Dunno. I think of Nanami as slightly being more of a replacement Kirigiri than a Togami. It might be just because of the gender thing, but she's also one of the brighter and more prominent kids in the trials and I think of her detached and aloof nature as being a hop, skip and a jump away from Kirigiri's icy one. Shrug.

I like Tanaka a lot too, mostly because you never really know how a conversation with that dude is going to go. I wouldn't call him one of my favorites, but I still enjoy having him around :)

Komaeda's mostly my favorite because he's such a wildcard, he defied all of my expectations, and how he singlehandedly makes the game more interesting. You get the impression from the trials that for all of his self-deprecation, he's extremely bright. He can shake things up a ton and he's completely willing to in the name of his messed up idea of hope.

Kuzuryuu's probably my second favorite from this game. I didn't think much of him before the second trial, but both during it and how he responded to it made me like him quite a bit.

Hinata's third, and possibly second as well depending on my mood. Won't go too much into why cause spoilers, but his character arc is probably my favorite out of anybody's. Any guesses as to his cutie mark special talent so far by the way?

Oh, and also~

So apparently Eurobeat the brony musician (you might have heard his Discord song somewhere) is a Dangan Ronpa fan :o. He just made the first piece of Dangan Ronpa fan music I've ever heard and dedicated to one of my favorite characters no less . I've listened to it about fifteen times in a row now

Some potential spoilers for chapter two of the first game maybe?

  • 2 months later...

SPOILER FREE POST :P

Bumping this again to say that I've been going through the ending of the second game again, and I've gotta say that Hinata is a wonderful and awesome dude. Even accounting for my frequent weird and irrational bias against main characters of things, he still ended up as my favorite tied with Komaeda. And if you know me, how big of a Komaeda fanboy I can be, and just how much more fun that guy made the game almost singlehandedly, that's pretty amazing :D. Surprised me, for sure. I have no idea how they'll top SDR2, if they make more games

Wow, I should really get back to reading that Let's Play...  Has it really been three months?  I admit that I actually haven't read anything since then...

I may be wrong, but I thought I heard that they were making a spin-off game that would involve Naegi's sister, as well as Genocider Syo.  I don't have time to look for the link at the moment, but I could try to find one once I get back from work.

Oh, I've seen clips of that. Not especially hyped for it, due to the clips making it look pretty drastically different from the other games. Still though, I've seen one interesting bit of speculation about how it all ties into the rest of the series and I'm pretty curious.
