Male Alicorns?

So, I was just talking to my boyfriend about a potential story/fanfic, and a good question came up: Should male alicorns be considered canon or not? I don't know if this has been discussed already, but I really want to hear some second opinions, because here's what I was thinking.

So far, the only alicorns we have seen are princesses. Of course, this implies that alicorns = royalty. And yet, Blue Blood is a prince but not an alicorn. Cadence and Twilight were transformed into alicorns, but only once they earned that status. I know that there are other kingdoms in Equestria, and that they are most likely ruled independently by a princess... or a prince, maybe?

If alicorn status can be earned by a mare, surely it can also be earned by a stallion? Blue Blood certainly hasn't done anything to earn that status, so that would explain why he isn't one. But really, what if it is a prince ruling a certain kingdom, perhaps alongside a princess? What if he were on his own? I imagine the power of an alicorn might make it a little easier to manage a kingdom. And if he has the qualities of a true leader, would he not be able to earn alicorn status?

I guess what I'm saying is, I don't like the thought that alicorn status is exclusive to female characters. And yes, I've heard about the alicorn Royal Guards, but I don't know if that was an animation error or what. What are your thoughts on this?

I see no reason to not have male alicorns. The only argument against it is that we have not seen any (outside animation errors). But really, stallions  should have as much right to achieve alicornhood status as any mare.

Unless there going down the path where only females can become alicorns for genetic reasons. It might just be that stallions do not become Alicorns but instead very powerful versions of themselves. Sombra was only an unicorn yet had very powerful magic due to whatever made him like that.

Its kinda of like asking do the changlings have a 'King' amongst their race.

Genetic reasons? Bah. If we want to get technical here, there is only one chromosome that determines gender, at least in humans. From my knowledge, males and females are not that genetically different.

Also, it was dark magic that turned Sombra the way he was. Presumably, dark magic is considerably more powerful than normal magic.

The Changelings really don't need a King. They're an insect-based race, and most hive insects (ants, bees, etc.) have only a queen, so that is the reason Queen Chrysalis is the one and only ruler of the Changelings.

I believe there would have once been at least one male alicorn, that being the father of the royal sisters.

Now on whether or not a male alicorn could come about in the show... it's a possibility though I honestly I wouldn't bet on it.

@@EquestrianScholar,

That is, assuming that the royal sisters were birthed rather than created (as some like to believe due to their godlike nature)... Their origin, though, is a real mystery. They may have had a father, but I don't know. It's possible, and that in itself would make male alicorns 'canon.'

Either way, I'm not counting on seeing any male alicorns in the show. I had just been wondering because, if I were to write this fanfic I had in mind, I wouldn't want people whining at me about, "Oh, that's not canon to the show!" And by 'canon,' I mean within the realms of possibility in the show. A headcanon, I suppose.

I say go with it, there no established lore our cannon abut if stallions can be alicrons our not. And in my belief, i think they can advance too alicons status just as much as mares can. Is just as far MLP gos in is story ark, this hasten happent yet, and is unliky we will see it considring many of the mine characters in MLP are not stallion but mare dominated. But might be some potnciely for Shinning Armor to become one, if rise that state of enlightenment, our realizing his full potently what ever this might be. Our if the MLP staff just daises out of blue, come up with totally new character. How knows. But bottom line i say just go with ever want write abut in your fanfic. And best of luck with you.

Well I'm basing this off the only 'canon' source involving the subject, that being the original creator Lauren Faust who said Princess Celestia and Princess Luna had parents they live with in the castle found in the Everfree forest.

Now if the synopsises of the first 3 episodes of season 4 are anything to go by more information very well might be added involving this subject.

I apologize I forgot to quote or mention you so hopefully this will do and getting your attention. I should really watch myself so I don't keep on doing that. Edited by EquestrianScholar

@@EquestrianScholar,

Hmm... Yes, I do believe that some of the episodes in Season 4 will help fill in some of the holes that are currently present in canon, and answer some of the questions we have: Celestia and Luna's parents, their past... Come to think of it, they have been thus far enigmas where their pasts are concerned. I look forward to possibly learning more about them.

It'll be cool to have Alicorn guards, Well, I'll be  making Battle an Alicorn if that's possible....PLEASE DON'T BE  AN ANIMATION ERROR LIKE YOU SAID!

I've heard whispers that Luna and Celestia's father was an alicorn.

But other than that, I really don't know why there's no male alicorns. There's no harm in it, from my looking into it.
