Breaking the Cycle : Chapter 2

NOTE: Let me know what you think! I do have some conflict which I know may seem out-of-character but later chapters will explain most of the clearly OOC-stuff. 

 

CHAPTER 2

 

"I know you're gonna love this ruby cake, Spike. Oooh, I just noticed that giant gem. Is that a present for me?", asked Pinkie Pie with a grin.
"Uhhh...."
"I'm just teasing you, I know it is for Rarity. I think she's totally into you by the way."
"Really?", asked Spike happily.

"Actually, I don't have a clue. I just wanted to make you smile."
"Uh, thanks, Pinkie Pie.. hey is something wrong with Twilight?"

Spike and Pinkie saw that Twilight was staring into space, eyes open but motionless.

"Oh, Twilight's been like that since I told her about how mean Applejack is."
"You didn't even bother to say anything till now? It's been at least fifteen minutes. She could be having internal seizures or something like that."
"That's stupid. HEY TWILIGHT, WAKE UP!!!!! WAKIE WAKIE!!!"

Twilight began to move, "Huh.. oh.. I guess I had my head in the clouds, sorry guys."
"How could you when you are on the ground?", asked Pinkie Pie.

"Um... never mind. But so yea cake, yummy."
"I am also throwing a party! I invited our best friends, Rainbow Dash and Rarity. I also invited Fluttershy but I think she is scared of me or something, I tried to get into her cottage but a big bear roared at me and almost killed me.. maybe that bear went after Applejack if I am lucky."
"Okay, I had enough. What is wrong with Applejack?"
"Nothing has really changed about Applejack I guess.. but she has always been a horrible pony."
"Uh..okay..Pinkie Pie, I am going to give this gem to Applejack instead just to spite you. How about that", Spike commented harshly.
"Don't you see what she is like?"
"I always thought you were the worst of the bunch, Pinkie Pie."
"Hold on, let's stop fighting", said Twilight, "whatever is going on I am sure can be resolved."
"Twilight, could I talk to you privately for a sec", asked Spike.

 

Spike and Twilight went outside.
"Don't you see that Pinkie is acting weird?"
"She's always eccentric but why is she so mad at Applejack? There is something she isn't telling us."
"Additionally, it sounds like Fluttershy has a reason to be afraid of Pinkie.. maybe she did something terrible to Fluttershy while we were gone."
"I don't know. It's not in Pinkie's nature to be mean. There has to be a misunderstanding."
"Yea, I suppose. I have a feeling Pinkie Pie doesn't understand much."
"Spike, to be frank, could you stop being such a dick in front of her?"
"Uh...I guess..but can I still.."
"Ugh, yes, you can still tell me about how much of an idiot she is, just don't talk about it in front of her?"

"Oh, yes, I agree with you two. Applejack is an enormous idiot", said Pinkie Pie while bouncing.

"Um.. yea.. I guess Applejack did something pretty idiotic to make you so mad at her", said Twilight with a dash of diplomacy.
"Applejack made me kick some poor trees so the apples would fall down. She then made me help her raise the barn.. you know.. the one that keeps falling down all the time anyway."
"That doesn't sound so bad. I've done those things for Applejack before."
"Oh my god, she was mean to you too.. stopped you from having fun."

"Hey guys, look up in the sky", shouted Spike.

They saw a pony flying in the sky writing in rainbow colors, "Welcome back Twilight and Spike!!"
"Rainbow Dash!!"
"TWILIGHT!!"
Rainbow Dash flew down to the ground and gave Twilight a big hug, "I missed you so much. I have so many great stories to tell you. Did you read the newest Daring Do book yet?"
"No, I haven't. Been too busy with princess duties."
"Oh right, how's that been.. must have been AWESOME!"
"Um.. not all awesome actually. I mean some parts are, but I missed Ponyville a lot."
"Oh come on. You probably got to party with the Wonderbolts!"
"Um.. actually, I did a few times. They love talking about you actually."
Rainbow Dash gasped happily.
"Yes. This is awesome!!"
"So, how have things been in Ponyville? I hope all has been well."
"For the most part, things have been pretty sweet. I've perfected the sonic rainboom so I can do it anytime I want without fail. Everypony has been great too, except for Fluttershy. She's a wimp who can only interact with animals and not ponies. She's real nasty too, a real buzzkill. I bet she keeps that bastard bunny in line with evil magic." 
"Fluttershy is not as bad as Applejack", interjected Pinkie Pie.
"Hell no, Applejack is a good sport. We trained together for the Ponyville Olympics. It's stupid you hate Applejack."
"I wish I could say the same about Fluttershy, I like her just fine but she's been cold to me recently.. more so to me than you."
"That's because Fluttershy is an awful pony."

 

Twilight went into a catatonic state again.

 

"Uh, guys.. what's wrong with Fluttershy?", asked Spike.
"Fluttershy hates me", said Pinkie Pie.
"And I hate Fluttershy", said Rainbow Dash.
"Pinkie, do you hate Fluttershy?"
"No, of course not.. Applejack is the evil pony."
"Rainbow Dash, does Fluttershy hate you?"
"She probably should..but she's trying to turn everyone against Pinkie Pie. I'm here to protect my good friend."
"I am so lucky to have nice friends", said Pinkie with a giggle, "oh look, here is Rarity."
"Rarity?" asked Spike, "is my gem still here?"
"Oh brother" said Rainbow Dash.
"You know too?"
"Yes Spike"
"Did Twilight tell you?"

"No..it's obvious. Speaking of Twilight, what's wrong with her?"
"Oh, she froze up. She did it when I talked about how much I hate Applejack. Twilight must have done the same thing when you talked about how much you hate Fluttershy."
"Hmmm.. I wonder why Twilight doesn't do that when I talk about how much I hate you", said Spike.
Rainbow Dash pushed herself into Spike, "What did you say about Pinkie?"
"Umm... only kidding. She's a cool pony, Pinkie knows I really think that, right?"
"Okie dokie lokie!"

"Oh my, sorry for being fashionably late. Did I mention that I was fashionably late". It was indeed Rarity. "Ooh, I see the gem, it is magnificent."
"Straight from Canterlot", said Spike with a smile.

"It..is..the..best..gem..ever!!!", exclaimed Rarity and gave Spike a kiss on the cheek, "oh pardon me, is that gem for me?"

"No, Spike said it was for me", interjected Pinkie Pie.
"Uhhh... no, I have an extra special gift for Pinkie since she is an extra special pony. This gem is for you, Rarity."
"I will need a big strong stallion to take the gem home for me."
"Spike at your service, I guess that will be my afterparty."
The ponies giggled. 
"Um, what's wrong with Twilight?", asked Rarity.
"Oh, she froze when Rainbow Dash...", began Pinkie Pie.

"Ugh, of course Rainbow would be so cruel", interrupted Rarity.
"I didn't do shit to Twilight", said Rainbow Dash.
"Even so, it doesn't matter.. you are a disgrace to ponykind."

"What's your problem with me anyway, Rarity? You should be hating Fluttershy."
"No, you should be hating Applejack!!", Pinkie Pie commented.

Spike approached Twilight and shook her softly, "C'mon, wake up."
"Uhhh.. what's wrong with Ponyville? I can't figure it out", said Twilight.
"Everything will be better when I personally get rid of Rainbow Dash", said Rarity.
"You gotta catch me first, biatch", teased Rainbow Dash, "Later Twilight." Rainbow Dash stuck her tongue at Rarity and flew away. 
Rarity began to run after Rainbow but Spike and Twilight were able to tackle Rarity in time.
"What's going on", asked Twilight nervously.
"Don't you see, Twilight? Rainbow Dash has been the cause of all of the problems in Ponyville. She makes everything around her much uglier. That's why she doesn't care about fashion."
"Rainbow Dash is fine, Rarity. It's that Applejack. How I hate her!", said Pinkie Pie with a scowl. 
"Next time I hear you talk about how much you hate Applejack, I am going to throw this gem at you", said Spike with frustration.
"No, don't do that", responded Rarity with shock, "the gem stays with me!!"
"See what Pinkie makes me do!"

"Ugh.. I need to figure this all out", said Twilight.

"There has been much discussion as to who the evil pony is, but it is obviously Rainbow Dash", said Rarity.
"There is no evil pony.. but why all the hate among my friends?"
"Once Applejack is gone, all will be okie dokie lokie."
"No, Rainbow Dash must go!"
"Well you two don't hate each other, right?", asked Twilight.
"Of course not", exclaimed Rarity.

"Good", said Twilight, "Spike, keep these two in Sugarcube Corner while I do some research at the library."

"Sure thing, Twilight!"


Twilight made a special key with her magic which landed into Spike's hands. 
"It's a key only dragons can hold, so trying to steal it from him won't do either of you good", said Twilight as she left Sugarcube Corner.

Spike gulped as he looked at the hyper Pinkie and Rarity with her beautiful pouting face. He thought to himself, "Guarding these two is gonna be harder than Twilight probably thinks it will be."

Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash are nice ponies. This actually kind of insults my love of MLP. Super sorry.

Completely understandable actually.. well technically, they are simply nice ponies who have been affected with an evil curse by some super villain who is truly after Twilight Sparkle and is just using her friends so that Twilight would go face-to-face with the villain. 

 

I've written some really dark fanfics for shows I absolutely love but MLP is a little different..I've also been admittedly finding it impossible to write a scene where Applejack/Rainbow Dash go by Sugarcube Corner, Pinkie Pie/Rarity see this and power through Spike to get out of Sugarcube Corner and set off Applejack/Rainbow Dash in the process, leading to some hardcore

fighting...Fluttershy (if you read Chapter 3) has left Ponyville since she wanted to escape the "monster inside her". I've been trying to keep them in character somewhat (they are all still super nice to Twilight and Spike) but yet again, it's tough...even with the knowledge I have that they are all cursed.

The big fight between the four ponies was supposed to be in Chapter 4 but I didn't have the heart to write it in..that's why Chapter 4 ended up being a chapter with only Twilight, her dream, and brief apperances from the CMC. 

 

Additionally, I have another idea now for a new fanfic which is interesting me more.. but I may revisit "Breaking the Cycle" in the future - but might rewrite the earlier chapters in the process.
