A message to the brony community

This is a note on how I feel about how everyone treats each other on the forums here, because I’ve noticed that people aren’t being treated well at all. I mean come on, didn’t MLP:FIM teach us something and that thing being  accepting others differences and tolerate everypony, because what I’m seeing here is contradicting itself.  I could care less if this is the internet. We are all human and we should all be treated equally unless proven otherwise. I think this needs to be said more often because the only thing I deal with day in and day out is negativity and rudeness, insults, and racial slurs, constantly pulling away at me sanity.  I thought everypony knew better.  But for the ones that have been helping anypony out then I salute you with my greatest honor, you are the kind of people we need more in this world to make it more friendly and tolerable. That’s all, I hope you guys can think about this more, because this issue needs to be addressed more.

I've yet to enounter anything like what your talking about here. Though I've been on plenty of forums where people just type the most offensive and disturbing stuff just for pure shock value to be honest.

 

And even the best Mods in the world can't stop a few individuals posting nasty comments until after the fact.

Love and Tolerate was actually a method of trolling when the "fandom" first started on 4-chan. When the second wave of bronies came in, they adopted the saying as a mantra, not knowing that it was used to antagonize other people.

Oh that guy. Yeah, he does seem to have a one track mind on that issue. MLP as a show isn't for grimdark.

 

All MLP grimdark is fan made and theres plenty enough about as is without someone wanting it to be canon.

Because they use it literally, trying to make out that we'd tolerate anyone for no reason like murderers and such.

 

We can all love and tolerate but as human beings it only goes so far. We can't banish darkness from our hearts with magic as much as I wish that were possible.

I say it open, for I'm open about being a furry and I got to hear (since I changed my profile pic and my about me to be open about it) what exactly a Furry is doing on a Brony forum quite a few times...

I don't suppose that this is meant as an attack, but if i remember right there is this thing called (love and) tolerance. Of course I'm aware that not everyone wants to act after it, and it's no requirement to be a Brony.

But respect is a requirement, and if you disrespect people for liking other things... if its clopping (oh my, i said the evil word) or being a Furry or whatever... then you should change your mind. Or leave. Now.

Are you saying you see this insults etc on this forum? or do you mean day to day in real life outside of this forum?

 

If you mean this forum could you provide some more details? or stuff you've heard or seen that's bad?

I always find it funny how folks forget that ponies have fur coats. even most fan-art forgets that but they can be forgiven as the extra attention to detail that requires is difficult but fantastic when they can pull it off.

The only negativity on this forum is on the Life Advice section (and y'all know what I mean).

And what part of this forum would have rudeness and insults?

Most of this was started early by poster who seems hellbent ton the idea that having AJ die would make MLP much better despite 99% of everyone else trying to stab the idea into his skull that MLP is a kids show first and having AJ die would be horrible.

So, was the negativity directed towards the AJ haters? 'Cause if someone's gonna say something like that about AJ, they should expect some hate. I like AJ, she's, like, my 3rd favorite. I'd try to reason with them about what you said: Kids Show

Honestly, I haven't come across any of that kind of thing. I read some of the other replies on here and the only thing I found in there was the post about killing off Applejack (which shouldn't happen). I mean, everybody on here is either encouraging or indifferent. I personally have found no negativity on this forum. 
 

Personally, I don't care if someone's negative to me. People were negative to me all throughout my childhood. I just learned not not give a crap. I have better things to do with my life than be weighed down by someone else's negativity. I think everyone should adopt that policy. The world would be a much happier place if we learned to just ignore the putdowns of other people.

Even as a member of a community built around "love and tolerance", you have to keep your thinking grounded in reality. Some people are going to be dicks, and some people are going to take offense to what others say. It's pretty much a non-issue considering that it hasn't come to be a major problem here.

He thought he could make one of the EoH change form Loyalty to Cuteness.

 

That's one of the universal no-no's of MLP, like making your OC an Alicorn or being able to solo Discord with no magic. xD

I think it's a pattern in a community, sometimes there are things that you wouldn't expect and that there are people out there that do not use the message as an example to love & tolerate.

trust me you would be surprised to what I've seen on these forums that have completly negative. Also I think life would be better if people treat others better.

Humans are inherently unequal simply by the nature of their various personalities, aptitudes and abilities. And what if all people were treated with equal hatred? That technically satisfies your mandate. And honestly, have you ever interacted with any humans before? They're not all positivity and bunny rainbows and they never will be. You can't change human nature.

You are missing the point greatly. I'm not saying we should be perfect I'm saying that a lot of the crap on here can be advoided with a bit more. Tolerance.

Haven't really seen many racial slurs or anything of the sort around here, but I have encountered my fair share of general rudeness, a lot of which I think stems from people treating their opinions as absolute, infallible truths, thereby making anyone who criticizes their opinions (even in a non-confrontational way) an enemy. It's gotten to the point where I feel I have to preface every opinion I post with "IMO" or "it's probably just me, but...", just so that I don't seem like I'm one of these folks who puppy guards their opinions as if someone's coming to take them away. Believe it or not, my own opinions can be quite flexible as long as someone is willing to back up their arguments with evidence that'll make me question my own stance.

 

That's not to say I've never gotten sharp or rude with anyone, but...let's face it, when I do, it's usually because the person I'm arguing with is dealing in absolutes and generally being - how do I say this without it being antagonistic -"very disagreeable and closed off to alternative points of view." But I've found that fighting rudeness with rudeness only seems to invite trouble, so I've been trying my best to take the high road lately...the key word being "trying". I may or may not be doing a particularly solid job of this, depending on whom you ask.
