How much do YOU know about dinosaurs?

The contest works like this: I will post two pictures of an inaccurate dinosaur, and you will tell me what is wrong with them. The first one to point out all the mistakes wins. The winner gets brohoofs (I will announce the winner)

Let's start with an easy one: Velociraptor

Okay, this thread obviously did not pick up, so I'm just gonna respond to the participants:

Pic #1

1 pic the raptor had to many feathers and some under the arms

The first one looks more like a microraptor to me

Actually, the raptor is needs more feathers, it's primaries on it's arms are missing, the metatarsals are too long, and the stomach is too thin, it should look like a bird's. Also, the tail is too bendy and the shape of the skull is all wrong.

Pic #2

and the second... I'd say the raised claw is the wrong one... shouldn't it be the middle of the three?

2 pic the raptor was to big

Dinomaster is correct, but he missed some things: the skull is wrong, the hands are pronated, tail is too thin and short, and it needs feathers.

My favorite dinosaur is a prehistoric shark called Megalodon. It's like 50 feet plus and has teeth that are the equivalent size of your hand. It's the older cousin of the Great White. Some scientist believe it's still alive, it escaped the Ice age by swimming to deep water trenches.

Megalodon wasn't a dinosaur. Also, it couldn't have survived the ice age, it was too specialized to escape into the trenches unfortunately :/

I got all my knowledge of dinosaurs from the TGIF sitcom Dinosaurs and the first Jurassic Park, also texts books. I'm down for the next round when your willing to start it up.

Nice to see the thread is picking up. I'll see if I can get some people to come and then we'll start :)

I know that A. the T Rex can take numerous tank shells. B. The Giganotosaurus is the largest known carnivore of that era and takes quite a beating as well and lastly C. Do not under any circumstances research third energy.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

Well, I don't think they had those spines on their back, and I'm pretty sure the arms weren't quite that dinky.

Also, I don't know the bumps around the eyes are quite right on the second one.

First pic:

-the eyes are too forward

-the antorbital fenestrae is too prominent

-the primaries do not reach to the second digit on the hand

-the mouth reaches too far back

-the torso is too floppy

-the tail bends too much and is under muscled

-the hands are pronated

-the sickle claw is too large

-the legs are inder muscled and oddly proportioned

-the pubis bone is missing

-the skull is too flat and rectangular

Second pic:

This artist is a great friend of mine. Vlad really knows where to make the difference between paleontography and fan art, and is generally a very nice person to hold a conversation regarding dinosaurs with.

-the sickle claw is oversides

-the legs are too straight and under muscled

-the individual actually represents a genetically modified representative of the species Deinonychus antirrhopus, which the unorthodox paleo-artist Gregory S. Paul attempted to have informally renamed as Velociraptor antirrhopus in his 1988 book Predatory Dinosaurs of the World. It was this book that Dr. Michael Crichton referenced when writing Jurassic Park, and this book was also referenced by Steven Spielberg when making the film adaption. This is the reason that the JP Raptors are "too big". Although, the Raptors in the novel are actually Achillobator giganticus, whose early scant remains had been noted by GS Paul in his aforementioned book (to read more regarding that, please see my thread here).

-the hands are pronated

-there's quills instead of feathers

-the nasal ridge is raised (likely via a cartiligenous structure and is more of an artistic preference than a true innacuracy)

-the thigh is undermuscled

-the tail is too short

-the proportions of the arms and hands are wrong

I'd say the raised claw is the wrong one... shouldn't it be the middle of the three?

Technically, no. There's four toes on the entire foot a theropod dinosaur. The innermost toe, what we'd consider our "big toe", is located up near the ankle. In birds, this toe is located near the back of the foot, which gives them their unique forked footprint.

Okay. Round #2!

Tyrannosaurus

Pic #1

Pic #2

Pic #1:

Actually, not too shabby. Not perfect, but not nearly a terrible as the second image.

-the spinal ridges appear to be bone when they should be keratinious or cartiligenous

-abdomen is too shallow, doesn't take into consideration the gastralia

-neck is undermuscled

-head is shrinkwrapped. Too little flesh

-the back of the head should be thicker

-there should be more muscle as the back of the mandible

-the antorbital fenestrae are too pronouned

-the nostrils should be further up on the premaxila

-arms are pushing it for supination

-lacks protofeathers

-the lumbaric vertebrae are too short

-arms are undermuscled

Pic #2:

Holy shit, where to start...

-the manible is too thin

-the skull is too boxy

the snout is too thick

-the antorbital fenestrae are WAAAAY too prominent

-the hands are pronated

-the jawline is completely off and has too few teeth

-the nostrils are too large

-the arms are too forward

-the chest is too shallow

-the barrel is too short

-the legs are too human-like

-the pubis is too far back

-the toes are too close together

-the tail is too bendy

-the spine curves way too much

-the claw on the first digit of the foot is facing the wrong way

-no protofeathers

-the orbits are too sunken in
