gaming Broken Playstation 4s Reported Pre-Launch

Recommended Posts

There has been numerous reports of early PS4 units not working. It is unknown if these problems will persist with the PS4 units that will release tomorrow (Nov. 15 2013). IGN, Kotaku and other companies have experienced this problem and is bound to have some people worried about spending $400+ on a brick. What are the thoughts about this?

Everypony is worried about getting the next-gen systems day 1; and I'm just sitting here waiting for a price drop. mellow.png

There's something that goes wrong with every console launch. I'm sure they'll release a "new and improved" version of both systems months later anyways, after 50% of them randomly malfunction.

Well this is unfortunate. Naturally, there's something wrong with a console at launch, but the system breaking is no good at all. I just hope it doesn't turn into an RROD redux. If this becomes a regular thing, then I will not be purchasing a PS4 for at least 8 months. Same goes for XBO.

Meh. No big deal.

People will make a big deal out of this now and forget in like a couple days or a week or something. From what I gathered, it's also small fraction of the ps4's sent out that haven't worked properly so I doubt this will be a long drawn out problem.

So far the next gen systems don't offer anything of a variety for the "gentle" gamers.  I don't mean the family friendly "nintendo" games, I'm talking about pure adventure and fun without all the friggin violence of an FPS, GTA sanboxes, or zombie clones.  I just want good clean adventure that isn't marketed towards 5 year olds.....I am waiting on the price drop for the Xbox 360 and then I will buy one.  I am really having a hard time finding good games for my PS2 anymore, it's like those games no longer exist (just like the GBadvance)....

Hopefully not. As said if this becomes a regular problem, I won't be purchasing one for quite a while. This is one thing I like about Nintendo consoles: They may not be the most powerful systems of their generations, but they are well built and very reliable.

Well, at least Sony will do something about it, and Microsoft would do the same (unless, of course, they're too busy counting all the money they would get). So for now, I'll just wait for June for me to get the PS4 that won't be broken down as the launch versions of the PS4 consoles, so I'm not too worried about that, but in the meantime though... I might try to buy PS4 games, even without the PS4 console, so it'll save me the hassle IMO. :P

The funny thing is the first significant launch problem I remembered when I was making my previous post, was about the Wii: all the stories about people breaking their TVs because the wiimote strap wasn't good enough. The problem was fixed and forgotten of course; It's probably the freshest in my mind because of how funny the thought is.

Tbh the strap isn't really necessary. The player should be firmly grasping it.(Patrick Star eat your heart out.)

And Sony better not play the "lol what warranty" game with customers.

To be honest

RROD is what I remember the most since it affected a lot of Xbox 360's at launch and it was a hardware problem. The wrist strap is not a hardware problem but more of people being stupid when playing games.

This is the same thing that I'm doing, just going to wait until a price drop before I get a PS4, and I have a perfectly working 360 until that time.

That was a launch problem? I don't remember it as a launch problem probably because it persisted for so long and the Xbox owners kind of just put up with it while everyone made fun of it.

And about the wrist strap, I'm not trying to start anything; I'm just saying a lot people made noise about it (and hilarious image macros and videos) and then forgot about it after the problem was fixed. Let's not get into whether it was the players' faults or the wii remote's because that's kinda beside the point.

I am personally following the advice of the Game Launch Rock video.

Guess it goes to show that you shouldn't buy a modern gaming system at launch.

From personal experience I never had a Wii mote fly out of my hand and I never used the wrist strap (ever) Like you I'm not trying to start anything but I'm just stating this. For younger kids I could understand. I think Nintendo became more aware after these events occurred and put further emphasis on informing people to use the wrist strap to help prevent it from happening and from then on the situation quieted down. I really don't think they changed how the Wii strap was made though. As for the whole Xbox 360 problem that was unavoidable since Microsoft rushed their product out to market and it was due to the overheating of the chip set inside the console itself. There were no precautions that you could have made to save your unit and it would unfortunately succumb to RROD.

Xbox 360 had RROD, PS3 had YLOD, PS2 had disc read error, and Wii barely worked to begin with. It's natural that every console has some sort of failure rate, PS4 is just following tradition.
