Charcoal's heart skipped a beat as Lee finally came off the ship. "H-heay Lee. H-how are y-you today?" Charcoal asked out of sheer nervousness. Come on Charcoal, you are going to blow it if you keep acting this nervous around him. Charcoal thought to herself.

"Awe, I wouldn't say it was...too heart to heart and everythin'. And doncha be worryin' about Solar. He's the strongest pony I've ever met," Sunny chirped confidently, "He'll be alright. I'll make sure of it..." She then motioned her eyes over to Charcoal, hoping Lee would catch on.

Lee could feel the nervousness coming off of her, taste it like he was able to taste the adoration being shared between Sunny and Solar. I need to get Char to relax some how. He turned and smiled at Charcoal. "Oh, I'm ready to get on with this mission. I'm a wee bit nervous about recon though. The thing is, we're going to try and run recon in a small town, like Ponyville. In small towns, every pony knows every pony, so even my and Moon Crypt's best disguises will stick out like sore hooves. We might as well waltz in as changelings for all the good we can do at trying to go in unnoticed. But, eh, what ever happens, happens." He looked around, trying to find something else to talk about. "So, look at the sky, talk about blue huh?"

Solar Sentinel

As Sunny brushed up against him, Solar smiled softly. Being around the golden maned mare was the distraction he needed from the mission, however he had to keep it fresh in his mind.

 

"I don't plan on dyeing any time soon, but I just like to have a plan, just in case. I guess it's my Celestia Branch OCD."

 

As Solar turned his head to check on Charcoal, he could tell she wasn't acting the same. He recognized that look on her face, it was similar to his when he received his first kiss.

 

"Come on Sunny, let's leave these two talk it out in private...kind of..." as he put his wing over Sunny. "Let's go over there so I can tell you that funny story." as he turned red just thinking about it. "We'll watch these two love birds from a distance."

 

He than heard Lee mention the sky, trying to change the subject, and face hoofed and turned around, looking at the two. "Who want's to hear a funny story?!"

Sunny was ironically about to say something more to Lee about Charcoal before Solar cut her short by escorting her away. She giggled a little at what Solar said, looking up to him happily. By now, the mare had almost forgotten about the cuts that laced her front hooves. "Oh, do you think they're finally gonna say somethin'?" she laughed. "Now about that there funny story...?"

Charcoal had thought of something that may haven be helpful to Lee on his recon. "Well... if you are worried about being noticed very easily then you should go as a salespony. That would explain why no pony would know you and explain why you are heading to their town."

Solar could see that Charcoal was saving the conversation and looked back to Sunny. "I'll tell you over here. It's rather embarrassing." as Solar led the mare a short distance away from the two.

 

"Well Sunny, I was a rookie in the guard. As the rookie, I had hall duty in Canterlot Castle, which was an between shift. Princess Luna, who just happened to pass me in the hall, needed my help for something. She mentioned something about Daylight savings time, and that we needed to wake Celestia up a little bit earlier than her normal. Do you fallow me so far?"

Lee smiled at Charcoal. "I like it! We could sell cider. I know of a few traveling sales ponies nonpareil. I'll pitch the idea to Moon Crypt when I get back." He looked off in thought for a moment before looking back at Charcoal, a questioning look on his face. "So, why did Solar give me that look when I asked about the sky...did I miss something?"

He looked off in thought for a moment before looking back at Charcoal, a questioning look on his face. "So, why did Solar give me that look when I asked about the sky...did I miss something?"

"Well... did I tell you about my... special condition? I'm not exactly a normal Pegasus you see I'm... I'm different." Charcoal said with a bit of sadness in her voice. She was a bit upset that she had to explain this a second time, but it was for Lee so she will make an exception.

Sunny giggled once more again, eagerly listening to his story. "Yep, I'm followin' Solar," she said intently. "I can't believe you knew the princesses directly though...I've only ever dreamed of stuff like that as a little filly..." Sunny nodded again, "Anywho, keep 'er goin."

Lee put a leg around  Charcoal, pulling her in to a hug. She's been through so much, how can she stand it? Lee thought as he listened to Charcoal. I'll just have to make sure she doesn't suffer anymore. As he thought this, he nodded to himself. He would be sure she wouldn't be hurt as bad as she had been in the past ever again. "Not on my watch." He whispered softly.

"I... I... I..." Charcoal embraced Lee, with a bit of a blush. "T-thank you... thank you so much Lee I... I don't know how I could ever thank you. Just... thank you, for everything." Charcoal said as she Hughes him tight, not wanting to let him go even if the ground beneath them were to disappear.

Sunny giggled once more again, eagerly listening to his story. "Yep, I'm followin' Solar," she said intently. "I can't believe you knew the princesses directly though...I've only ever dreamed of stuff like that as a little filly..." Sunny nodded again, "Anywho, keep 'er goin."

"I wouldn't say I knew them personally at that pony in time. It was more like passing in the halls....but back to the story. As we entered Celestia's chambers, Princess Luna promised me a promotion if I did exactly as she said to. Being the rookie I was...you get the picture. As we approached the sleeping Celestia, Luna told me to remove my helmet , which I thought nothing of at that moment."

 

Solar began to turn red as he remembered the next part.

 

"As Celestia slept, Luna levitated me helmet on to her sister's head...Care to guess where her crown ended up?"

Lee held Charcoal, not letting go. He was a bit surprised at the amount of feeling she was having, but then again, these ponies were a very surprising bunch. I need to get out of the castle more often. The barracks is not a good place to try and find the emotional norm for other ponies. He thought to himself. He put his head on top of Charcoals and simply held her so she could feel secure. At least she'll know she is safe some where, and that's with me.

Charcoal held the hug for a few more breef seconds before breaking the hug. She looked into Lee's eyes and blushed. She turned away so he wouldn't see her blushing. "Um... Lee. I... I want to tell you something. Something very very important that simply can't wait."

Sunny laughed humorously upon realization, "You wore a princess crown?" It was hard from Sunny to keep from laughing as she imagined a princess crown upon Solar's head. It was at that point she happened to see Lee and Charcoal embracing each other happily. She nudged Solar to look at the pair, smiling cutely as she watched them. Then, she pulled herself closer to Solar under his wing.

Lee looked at Charcoal as she pulled away from the embrace. His thoughts going back to her saying something about her condition. What was she talking about? His thoughts followed a rabit trail in his mind until he got to thinking about his wings he used to have, before he was banished. And about how sometimes he felt like jumping off tall places just to feel like flying again. He was stuck on this morbid thought until he snapped back to reality, hearing Charcoal say she needed to tell him something. "Ok, go ahead. What's on your mind?"

Charcoal was blushing deeply. "Well... I... you see..." Charcoal was having a lot of trouble finding the right words to say to a Lee. So she decided to use action as a better way to tell him. She leaned forward and planted a kiss on his lips. After a few short seconds she broke the kiss and looked down at her hooves. "S-sorry."

Lee was taken aback for a moment. He stood there still and felt her lips touch his. He then felt her love for him hit him, and he almost sat down, but managed to keep his footing. He, a changeling, was being loved. Some pony loved HIM. He had a dazed look for a moment or two then heard Charcoal apologize. "Sorry, for what? That was..." He walked over and kissed Charcoal back. He held the kiss for a moment longer to erase any fear or doubt that could possibly be in her mind before he broke contact and took a step back, grinning.

Solar smiled at seeing the two hug, as he felt Sunny under his wing, looking down, smiling at her for a few moments, before remembering the rest of the story.

 

"Yes Sunny....but guess who woke up than...I thought I was a dead pony. Celestia staring at me, her crown on my head. If it wasn't for Luna's laughing, I don't think I'd be here today."

 

"Now, that alone was enough to traumatize me, but Celestia had other things in mind for me that day...I...I had to wear her spare crown, shoes, and neckless the rest of the day, telling everypony that I'm a Pretty Pretty Princess for the day...She even had my mane done!"

 

Solar squeezed Sunny with his wing. "I have the pictures in my office...So I spent the whole day with Celestia because of it. I got promoted the next day to Sargent and was one of Celestia's personal guards in training."

Charcoal was also taken a bit by surprise with Lee kissing her back. But she didn't object. Tears started flowing down her cheeks, this was probably one of the happiest moments of her life right now. She just hopped she wasn't dreaming at this moment.

Sunny giggled even more at Solar's story, hardly containing her laughter. "Y-you even dressed up like one?!" It was all too much for the mare to bear as tears fell from her eyes from so much laughter. She then wiped them off on Solar's side before chuckling a little more as she looked up to Solar once more. Then, out of no where, she reached up and kissed him upon the side of his face with a joyful grin. Rubbing up against him closer. "Thanks for the story Solar. Even though you dressed up like a princess, I still think you're the best guard pony I have ever met," she stated happily.

Lee was surprised by her tears. "You're happy...but you're crying? Are you ok?" He really needed a better grasp of pony emotions. Even though he'd lived among them for some twenty odd years, he still couldn't understand them. They were a strange anomaly, unexplainable.

"I'm just... I'm just so happy. This is what happens if a pony gets too happy. I figure a changeling would be able to tell that if he has the ability to read emotions." Charcoal said with a smile. "You really need to get out more. And by her out more, I mean to come over here and sit with me."

Solar felt warm inside when Sunny kissed my. He was beaming from ear to ear.

 

"And your the best singer I've ever heard."

 

Solar laughed a bit thinking about Sunny's Princess comment. "You know what the worst part was? I had to walk around the castle dressed like that...hard to believe that by passing Princess Luna in the hall would lead to becoming a body guard to Princess Celestia."
