Dythe 5 November 25, 2013 Share November 25, 2013 I was thinking about the similarities between Discord and two other lords ofchaos -Aphophis (Apep) of Egyptian mythology and Nyarlathotep of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Aphophis is depicted as a snake/dragon, and is an incarnation of chaos. He was imprisoned in stone until the end times. This one is somewhat less similar than my next example. Nyarlathotep- The Crawling Chaos. Also known as the Black Pharaoh, Nyarlathotep is another another incarnation of pure chaos. Unlike most of of the Elder Gods, his goal is to cause as much suffering, insanity and, well, discord amongst mortals, rather than just enslave, kill or eat them to regain control of the world. He also walked frequently upon the earth, rather than lie and wait in endless slumber. His personality is described as constantly amused in a morbid way. I think that Nyarlathotep was more likely an influence, based upon both the description and the sparing use of Lovecraftian tropes (cosmic powers, chaos/harmony instead of good/evil, fear of the unknown, etc.) throughout the show. What do you think? 1 "Maybe it's the magical sniper fairy who gives silenced hollow-point bullets to people who don't eat their vegetables. " "Give peace a a chance! Or at least stand still." Yamato 1,348 November 25, 2013 Share November 25, 2013 (edited) I'm thinkin' more like Q from Star Trek: the Next Generation. It would make sense, considering Q was played by John de Lancie, Discord's voice actor. I mean, just think about it, Q was an immortal being who seemingly existed for the sole reason of fucking with everyone. Discord is an immortal being who seemingly exists for the sole reason of fucking with everyone. Essentially the same character, even down to the voice. Now, as to who Q was based on... Yeah, I got nothin'. Edited November 25, 2013 by Chrysler Conquest 2 This is the greatest OC of all time.

toby rogers 258 November 26, 2013 Share November 26, 2013 well discord is a chimera, Chimera "An animal made from two or more different species." and i think that fits well, but for the topic, i think he's based on Greek gods and/or monsters “I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.” -Marilyn Monroe OC'S are on my really short about me page efyl 4 seinorB-ageN http://kevan.org/johari?name=vincent(i+am+become+death) what do you think of me http://kevan.org/nohari?name=carlton+banks
Scootalove 10,689 November 26, 2013 Share November 26, 2013 Discord is probably just based on Greek gods, and maybe reincarnations of other animals. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules

LordDiscord 289 November 26, 2013 Share November 26, 2013 To be honest I was never much of a Star Trek fan so characters like Q had completely blew over my mind. When I was first introduce to Discord, I honest thought he was based off of Him from the Powerpuff Girls seeing as that was one of the franchise Lauren Faust worked on before MLP:FiM. Also the animation of the show reminds me of the Powerpuff Girls so that was why I thought that. But now that I know who Q I can now see more similarities to him than Him. Jammo 986 November 26, 2013 Share November 26, 2013 He's the 90s energetic supernatural prankster stereotype. Alladins Genie, Beetlejuice, Drop Dead Fred, Howie Mandel in Little Monsters, Q, the list goes on. Fortunately the writers of this show know how to keep him fresh.
