There is a site I went to when I was speccing out my own computer.

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1905156/gaming-time-shooting-build-worth-1000.html

This is a thread on that specifically.  Although making your own post with what you would like is likely the best way to go about it.

This one is specced out decently enough.

Raritas PM'd me about that PC and asked me if it seemed good.

I suggested that he save up for and buy a quad-core processor and a 2GB GTX 660 or 760 instead of the current 1GB GTX 650. imo 2GB should be the minimum amount of VRAM if you want to do some serious gaming.

The RAM is a bit slow, but in all honesty, it's not much of an issue. System RAM speed doesn't really matter much for gaming.

Do you need a monitor and/or keyboard/mouse? Don't forget you'll need to purchase a copy of windows as well.

As for the CPU, it really depends. I would personally go with a haswell i series (socket 1150) as A. I have one and know its performance pretty well and B. Intel CPUs offer very strong single thread performance and pretty good multithreaded as well. This allows for higher framerates in more games. Now, AMD's FX series does very well in multithreaded scenarios and in some cases manages to out edge an i7 and it does particularly well in battlefield 4, however its single threaded performance is rubbish at best and in games like Starcraft 2 or Dirt 3, it tends to perform quite dismally.

Anandtech's benchmarks should help you decide what exactly you're looking for.

When it comes to graphics cards. It's kind of personal preference unless you plan on using some form of Linux (AMD's catalyst is still rubbish). Outside of that x60 or above on the nvidia side or 7870 or above (270x or higher) on the AMD side will give you pretty good performance.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

Here's a good 'bang for the buck' moment for you. Same Graphics card, extremely similar motherboard, and the rest (power supply, stuff like that) the same.

AMD FX-6100 vs Intel i7 3770k.

In terms of general computing and single threaded stuff, Intel wins a decent bit. The FX 6100 still does good and performs very fast, but it's Intel's top of the line so it's better and stuff. Gaming wise though, Battlefield 3. Intel had 5-15 FPS higher then the 6100, for... 200 dollars more.

If you get the FX 6100, you can save yourself 200 dollars, or buy a better graphics card to get a higher framerate. Dun dun dun, better gaming performance, happier person.

That's what AMD does best, and I love it :3

The i7 has the benefit of intergrated HD Graphics 4000 chip, which means if you're GPU goes belly up you can do quite a bit on it without the dedicated card until you can you're hands on a new card. You can also save on power consumption and wear on the card by using the integrated for non-gaming tasks.

That is true, but to be honest I never cared for the Intel HD 4000 at all.

It's all my opinion though, it can benefit others. If you have one of the AMD APU's it also has the benefit as well, but to be honest, very rarely will you ever use the Integrated GPU at all.

I find it a waste of space personally, but that's Intel, they add it in for stuff like that.

I don't think FX chips have integrated graphics, and how is a waste of space? It's built right into into the chip

They dont, only the AMD APU's have them. It does give you an option between choosing one with Integrated Graphics and one without though.

Here's my recommendation if you haven't decided yet.

I'm no expert like any of those people who are saying things up there. But in all honestly games all run the freaking same if spend the right money, and mix the right materials together. Unless you seriously have an OCD of every single frame. If your running at 50-60 FPS your good to go.

CPU:
AMD FX-6350 SixCore running all at 3.8Ghz = $119
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113327

Mobo:
You've got two choices. If your not thinking of overclocking(and i hope you don't with an AMD FX processor), using over 8gb of ram, and crossfire gpus. You're fine with the
Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS(I use this damn thing, and hell it's doing it's job) = $60
It supports 4gb of ram in each slot, having two of them. Max 8GB.

*If you wanna go overboard and do the things I've mentioned above, go with the
ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ or something else. = $230(Honestly this is an overkill. You won't need any expensive motherboards if you are not planning on OCing, crossfiring GPUs, or using more than 8GB of ram)*

Ram:
Crucial Ballistix Sport 2 x 4gb ram = $72
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148544

GPU:
Really up to you if you know your GPUs
But here's my choices for a budget build
Giga bytes GTX 660 TI 2GB GDDR5 = $269
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125441
*If you just want the non ti version that's okay too
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500270

PSU:
Anything between 500 to 700 watts(MAKE SURE TO BUY THE BRANDED ONES, NOT THOSE CHEAP CHINESE ONES. I LEARNED THE HARD WAY)
*http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027= $50
or this if you got an OCD for wires, or you don't want things getting in the way
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341050 = $75(I'll go with this for wire management)

hard drive:
If you think you're going to play and purchase a lot of games, start off with a 1TB OR 2TB of hard drive space.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=22-136-533=$90

Case:
Really depends on the user's taste. Regular Coolermaster cases go for 100 dollars=$100
_________________________________________________________________________________
Total: $760 *not including any Windows OS

AS FOR A MONITOR, YOU'LL BE FINE WITH NO LARGER THAN 1440X900 RESOLUTION. RUNNING GAMES LIKE BATTLEFIELD 4 ON 1080p ULTRA WITH THAT GPU WOULD CAUSE SLIGHT FPS PROBLEM(AROUND 30 TO 40 FPS? MAYBE).

USE THE REST OF THE MONEY TO BUY WHAT EVER MONITOR YOU WANT.

Specs:
AMD FX-6350 Sixcore 3.9Ghz
Nvidia GTX 660 TI 2GB GDDR5
8GB of DDR3 RAM running at 1600hz
1TB WESTERN DIGITAL WB Black
550 Watts PSU

Note: This is my recommended list. Don't diss me just for using an AMD processor or a year old gpu. I stuck to the price range the guy was looking for.

I honestly tried my best of what OP wanted.
