READY! This has to be my favorite fighting series by far and I am overjoyed at its return! I played this all the time on the SNES and the sequel on 64. The new game on the Xbox One, while the free to play approach is questionable, it looks fantastic and Double Helix did a great job! It will be the first game I get for the One, Ultra edition as it comes with the arcade edition of the original, which I have not played that version.

Anypony else love the series? Do you have the newest one? Which one is your favorite? Favorite character in the whole series? These are just random questions I am throwing out there. I a immensely hyped for the new one. :)

I've only played the original game on the SNES. Played it for a bit at Play'n'Trade, bought it, played it a few times and kinda gave up :P

I'm just not really "into" fighting games, but I gave it a chance.

The combos is what makes the Killer Instinct games really fun but they can take some time to get used to. I would give them another chance, though if fighting games aren't your thing, then whatever works.

I have heard that the new one adds some newer elements that were not in the past games. Not sure how difficult that will be yet.

Had the game for n64. I always loved playing as either the wolf man ( name? ) or glacius. Fulgore was also a bit of a personal favorite. Oh and while I'm here..

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!!!!!

In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God, hovering above? At least it is true, that man has no control... Even over his own will.

That is Sabrewulf. :) Defitinely a great character to the learn the combo system. I wonder if he is like that in KI for the One. Fulgore was always pretty complicated for me though.

My favorite characters in the original game were Sabrewulf, Orchid, and Jago. Jago was my favorite in Gold (the N64 one).

I don't think that I'll be getting the new one, due to the platform restriction and the whole "You get one fighter free, pay for the rest!" model the game uses.

And yeah, I'm personally more of an action RPG type of guy, so I probably don't belong in a thread about a fighting game :P Oh well.

My opinion on the newest one based solely on what I've seen and researched:

Well, the game definitely looks better than I thought it would when I first saw the announcement. The game looks like it's worth a try but it doesn't look like my type of game overall. The combo breaker and counter breaker dynamic is the most interesting part of this game from what I've seen, and I can see plenty of exciting games resulting from the mind games, but the combos themselves are kind of lackluster.

It's a cancel heavy combo game, but the moves don't look varied enough when everything is happening so fast. The result is a really mashy looking string of attacks until a special or super comes along. Speaking of supers, the shadow moves are kind of bland and everyone's ultra looks basically the same: beat the guy silly with a bunch of normal attacks.

There's not much to say about the defense in the game either; other games have things like guard cancels, push blocking, instant blocking, etc.: mechanics to spice up the whole attacker vs defender game. I don't see anything like that in Killer Instinct.

So yeah, I think the overall gameplay is worth a try even though I don't have high hopes for it. The style of the game, on the other hand, is just not there for me.

-----------------------------------

I haven't actually played any Killer Instinct games, but Glacius looks like the coolest character in the new game (*rimshot*). I probably won't be getting it because I probably won't be getting an Xbox One anytime soon, but if I did get the One I'd get the game just to try it out.

I want to bring this topic back because I have been playing the new KI game and it is incredibly fun. The graphics are great for its genre, the characters are very polished and fun, and the new combo system is amazing. Truly, Double Helix did a great job here. If I had any complaints, just the lack of content. Most review have made this either their primary concern or only concern. Apparently Double Helix promises future content and they said if the game does well, they will keep making more content. That is a win-win. I just hope they do continue, because that is incredibly exciting.

Wow, I love this game. :D

I used to be a huge KI fan. I have the game on my SNES and Game Boy and played it at the arcade a few times. Always wanted to see another made but was really hoping for a multi-platform game. I was also hoping for a true game with awesome story mode for each character or something so the lore got brought to light in the fashion of MK or Skullgirls. Not really happy with the model they went with instead, with the IAPs and stuff. This is a game that should have been made as soon as MS got their mitts on Rare, rather than making a poorly executed Perfect Dark. I used to be able to pull off Cinder's ultra combo all the time, and was also really good with just about every other character. Fulgore and Glacius were always favorites of mine story-wise. If I ever buy an Xbox One I might get this just for old times, but I still get a kick playing it on my SNES.

Now if only Primal Rage would make a return since all these old fighters are coming back...

MS really has not been properly using many franchises that they have, especially from the acquisition of Rare. This game though is well worth the wait, if you can look past the lack of content for now. The core fighting is superb and quite balanced. Plus, if you are interest, the $40 version comes with the original Killer Instinct arcade as an extra download. (There is a free, $20, and $40 version)

I never played the original on SNES so I had no expectations going into it. I played it for about 10 minutes and stopped. I didn't care for it. It looks great, especially for a fighting game, but the controls just feel sluggish to me. Jumping feels slow and unresponsive and I never got a hang of the combos. I really can't complain too much because it was free, but I just didn't like it. Is it a game that takes some time to get used to the controls?

Yes. The combo system takes practice, a decent amount. There is a lot of timing involved but once you can get used to the way the system works and the controls, it is immensely satisfying. :) Even as a long time fan of the games, the new one seemed a bit daunting, but I am getting quite good at it now.
