Discord made some very good points

It really is true though. Up to this point, Twilight and her friends' adventures almost seem like an elaborate play that they helplessly caught up in with their "destinies" and saving the world. Forget for a moment that they all are in a cartoon and being controlled by writers and animators. Even then Discord breaking the 4th wall in Season 4 more directly than ever, seems to be the show's way of telling the viewers how overly melodramatic, theatrical and silly the whole "Oh no Equestria and Ponyville are in grave danger" cliche are.

 

I look back now after watching the episode and realize that even I was questioning in the back of my head whether Discord would "go bad" again several times in the episode. But really, not only did Discord help provide comic relief and defuse the tension of the drama starting Season 4, he raised plenty of good points.

 

A lot of the fans seem to speculate over the nuances about whether Discord is still evil, a villain or reformed. But really, when it comes down to it, since Discord's been around since, perhaps forever, he probably may know a great deal more than the Mane 6 or even Celestia does about things like Harmony and Friendship, despite representing their polar opposites. He certainly shows Twilight the value of such things through testing her in their 1st encounter and through letting her and the Mane 6, as friends, overcome the plant invasion.

 

Discord really seems to realize how predictable this situation is, as if he's seen it thousands of times before, watching Celestia and Luna save the day, and fall prey to their own weaknesses as well as Equestria as a whole. There may have very well been a good chance he was there watching the ponies and Equestrians argue and divide themselves, between, race, class, petty differences and everything in between, before he even arrived and decided to wreak havoc for a time.

 

And the whole Twilight Scepter?

 

 

Well let me put it this way: Discord just perhaps created the biggest and best way to address the whole Twilicorn debate by turning it into a silly gag meme.

 

On a whole I may be biased worshiping him and all, but Discord hit the nail directly on its head - with a Twilacorn scepter that is, in his appearance in Season 4. He may be a troll but he's damn good at it and he knows his audience and his peers well.

 

Don't ever underestimate a guy that's been around and back. Just ask Q.

Discord has been around for a long time, I'm pretty by now he's a kind of master philosopher and can predict typical situations by experience. xD

Of course he makes good points. In an interview with Meghan McCarthy, he is reformed for the explicit purpose of being the unreliable ally instead of the known enemy.

I also completely agree with you that he was helping Twilight, but at the same time if things went as predictably bad as they could have than it would also have major upsides for him, which is why he didn't lift a claw to help her physically.

I like his new character more, its really great and it means that we will see him lots. I also liek the fact that he is almsot the "observer", I feel that I can connect with him on another level because of this .

I think he's more brutal because instead of spreading chaos out all willy nilly he's focusing on the main six.

I'd put it at about a 9.

And I would like to add that it is possible Celestia wanted to reform Discord for this very reason. She knows Discord has method to his madness, and she knows it will prove very useful as she said in "Keep Calm and Flutter On".

Well yes but I wouldn't really say Discord was "reformed" like the show and some fans like to, but rather simply "recruited" as an ally and asset for Equestria. 

 

Aside from his vast knowledge, Discord provides something even more invaluable and simple that doesn't require one to be an immortal god: a different perspective and opinion. You see, because Discord doesn't think quite in that "good vs. evil" black and white mindset that Celestia, Twilight and co may, he's not caught up in this whole "I must save Equestria/the world" and defeat the bad guys mindset, and he's able to in that sense better prioritize and assess clever and practical plans. Also he's not worked up over something as trivial as princesses.

 

Also Discord now being "free" from the Elements will create for an interesting plot twist. I honestly don't think he ever anticipated that the Elements would be restored in the way they are now to the Tree of Harmony - he gave up those plans ages ago. But the fact now that he's acting as an independent character without any threat to coerce and control his actions.

Discord will never be fully good or evil because he never was either of those things in the first place, he is merely chaotic.

Me too. I'm actually really happy that the EoH are gone. They were just Deus Ex Machinas, now the characters will have to use their intelligence to solve their problems.
