New here, with some old music...

Hi Everypony!

I'm totally new to this, so I will actullay try and not screw it up on my first try...

I made some non-pony releated music over the last few years (2009-2012) and I have thought about putting some of them up here, so you could listen and comment on  :)

As I have no confidence in my voice and lack the amount of money to have all the instruments and technology I need, I have only instrumental tracks mostly made with FL Studio and the likes, so the quality may not be as good as I want it to be.

Hope you will like them as much as I do~

(I also played as the bassist in a local band called Dark Cherry for 3 years, but the band has since disbanded, so I wont be posting any material...)

All of them are great tracks, but they all are lack one thing: variance. See, with electronic music, there's hardly any room for variance, due to the fact that there are so many repeats. This is why I say that studying chord structures is really important in music, for with a great chord progression comes a music piece that has great variance. I see you also play bass. I'm a pianist and I've been doing music for 14 years. This includes three years of composing. I'll be happy to help you anytime you need it! :D

Wow that was fast :D
Sorry if I sound ungreatfull for the advice, wich I will most likely take to heart, but isn't it early to say that all of them are great after listening to 3 of them at most
(seeing as only 3 tracks have downloads as of now...)

I'm deeply sorry if I'm mistaken in any way!

Also not all of them are electronic stuff :)

@@OrangeRiff,

Yeah well, I'll listen to the rest a little later. How long have you been in music by the way?

Started around six or seven years ago with acoustic guitar, and soon went over to play the bass. Formed a band in 2008, got bisbanded 2011.

I frequently tried to find others to play with, and wrote some songs that never got out from my drawer, and got old and/or over-listened in midi or low quality mp3, so I lost interest in them.

Haven't been doing much since late 2012 because of lack of time and such, but I'm still searching for ppl to start over from scratch.

I think my playing routine slowly rusts away with the little to non practice I have right now, so it doesn't feel so bright anymore...

But I've still got my hopes and I still want to produce music I feel my own.

My tastes have changed a little even during this small amount of time, and i lost a bit of my confidence, but I still belive in making music for ears that listen.

I'm still young after all!

(this turned out quite depressing in my oppinion, but well, whatever :D)

@@OrangeRiff,

Well...I can help you produce. Let's work together over PM

For me...

I started being interested in music at a very young age. In fact, at age 3, I could distinguish the different sounds of instruments!

At age 5, I picked up the piano, and that's where everything began. I took piano everywhere I went. Around age 8, I started entering piano competitions and ended up with 7 years consecutive superior awards. Unfortunately, it ended at 25 superiors in a row. :( But that didn't stop me. Soon, I found myself as pianist for the Union Symphony Youth Orchestra. I only stayed there for a year though, since they couldn't keep up with piano music.

Soon, I picked up the saxophone, which was a great sucess, since I joined not one but TWO jazz bands.

In 2010, I got my first composition software, which I wasn't very active back then and couldn't come up with any good things. However, I did crank out my first original "High Voltage", that year, which was the only thing I did. Took about two weeks to get done.

Now, I'm just looking for people to perform my music live. If you and I can get in contact in a way, you could probably sing for me.

Sounds good right?

Sounds brilliant :D

only problem is I can't sing, but it would do me great pleasure to write music together :)

Also reading your breathtaking resume, and listening to your youtube channel I think I have an idea of where we could start, if your still into the idea ;)

@@OrangeRiff,

Oh yeah, I'm still in the idea. But I've got very different softwares. But I know a way we can mesh the two together. Bare with me.

What kind of softwares do you use?

My list is kind of short: FLStudio 11, Guitar Pro 5 (and maybe 6 until I buy myself an electric guitar, which will be very soon :)) and Audacity if I need to record something

I just spoke with my boss today, and I will buy a copy of Rocksmith for PS3. It comes bundled with an Epiphone Les Paul Jr., which is really just a starter level guitar, but still a good one in that category, and a Jack to USB cable, which I can use to more easily record my stuff, if I decide to do so :)

It would still cost half of mym onthly salary, but thankfully I was given the OK to pay it back to the company in smaller portions, under six months.

(and yes, I work at a video game store B) )

@@OrangeRiff,

I use Finale Printmusic 2011 and Finale 2012. I also use Garritan ARIA Player and Audacity.

I use audacity for mainly adding sound clips to my songs. I do mostly pony songs, but I do a non-pony song here and there.

@@OrangeRiff,

ARIA player is REALLY good for orchestrals. Hook up a keyboard to your computer and you can record straight form the ARIA player itself.

my brother has a keyboard, but I'm not really good with it...

sometimes I sit in front of it and try to play something, only to find out, I can't play it the way I want to.

but that's still more than what my brother uses it for ;)

@@OrangeRiff,

Well then...problem is that Garritan costs quite a bit of money. Finale 2012 alone costs $600. Printmusic 2011 costs around $120 to buy, but it's not as good as Finale 2012, because Finale 2012 is powered by Garritan, a software that emulates real instruments. Printmusic runs through MIDI.

I'm sorry, but.. WHAT. Just because something loops doesn't mean there's a lack of variance. In Electronic Music, it's more about the energy flow in the track. You don't just have to have 5 billion super complex melodies in one song to have variance.

So, my friend, I listened to The Chase and I rather liked it. I almost freaked out because that chiming bell-ish synth sounds almost exactly like the melody to an upcoming song of mine. I really think that it's really good. I just think that if it was mixed and mastered better, it'd sound a lot cleaner. Other than that, I really enjoyed it! Keep at it!

Thank you for listening to it and sharing your oppinion :)

to be honest the chase was made in an afternoon because I wanted show a friend that I can make music in that kind of style if I tried.

I liked how it turned out in the end so I thought I'd put it up here, with the better part of my solo resume, but as it was a small side project I didn't realy put much effort into mastering it.

also, mixing and mastering were always two things I wasn't really good at
