Okay cannons exist but surely you need more then just a cannon to be a tank, like armor and machine guns to defend the vehicle.  So an old cannon and metal, not that hard to make in even medievil times and spells are just a crude approxamtion of a complicated machine gun... The hard part is of course treads, an engine and a turret.

 

That would be a lot harder. Wait!

 

Yes the crane has an engine, treads, and a rotating arm that elevates and depresses.

 

Not only are Tanks possible but you can make one out of just the crap lying around in Ponyville!

Maybe she meant Tank in the figurative sense, like the way you call someone an ass. They aren't a mule, or a donkey, they're a human being. Tank isn't an armoured monstrosity, but he can sure as hell take a beating.

Tanks don't even need guns to count as tanks. If in fact, the reason Tanks are called tanks is so that when they were being developed in WW1, any german spies would think they were just working on farming/harvesting equipment... which is sort of true. The first true battletank is more or less a barely working armoured tractor.

Actually, they were said to be mobile water tanks , hence 'tank'. But yeah, I'd like to see the wiki on this one
