Yes, I'm new, and yes, I'm skeptical.

A welcoming mat? Really? This is too much. For the amount of traffic that must go through this site, I am surprised for their to be a place for so many new members. Surely most of them are ignored, as will this one, I'm sure...As you may be able to tell, I'm not gung-ho about being a brony. I look at everything with scrutiny and have little time or need for seemingly trifling matters, those including pep, over-enthusiasm and generally everything that goes into the MLP fandom. Irony at its finest. But perhaps that's why I'm here, not necessarily to befriend anybody, or to get a laugh at something ridiculous, but to watch what goes on in a sort of haven like this. I will ask questions and I hope to get answers. If anyone can change that general sense of apathy that pervades my personality, good luck. Perhaps also, I am here to try and find a place where I associate with people (or is it courtesy to use "ponies"?) in this respect. In a shared...interest...of chromatic ponies and colorful rainbows. It's a feeling that's simply latent. Thank you for reading.

Actually, most of the new member threads are answered. As you mentioned, lots of traffic; therefore, lots of people available to meet and greet. Granted, if they don't post much after that, I tend to forget them, but if they make themselves known, 'tis not too hard to be paid attention to.

In other news, I love your avatar. Did you draw it yourself?

Dark Sun? As in the old 2nd edition AD&D campaign set? I remember getting that decades ago back when I was in University.

In any case, Heyo! Welcome to the forums. :)

Well... I just thought I'd pop in and say Hi. I was thinking to myself... "So... a brony that's skeptical of their own fandom... How is that possible...?" So I then i come in an read your introduction... and then thought... "Hoo boy... this pony ain't ever going to figure me out." But yeah that's only based upon pre-misconception that you would bother trying in the first place. But then again, you do seem like the kind of pony that I would consider deeper then most. You view the world with your knowledge but you wonder who has more. And would take a good guess that you would probably wonder if we would accept you for who are if we knew. Well, I don't know if you came the right place. That's for you to decide. I'll just say that I accept you pony, cause you intrigue me.

You need more data, and time to process said data. I get it. I'll just have to resist the urge to hug you.

Welcome to the forums, DarkSun493. Hopefully we will break through your shell. And failing that, hopefully you will view the forum as an interesting experience.

Not my own. It was created from the Halo: Reach emblem editor, but I find that it matches my username quite well.

No, not that. It's a long story, but it came from an old game for the GBA, Boktai: Solar Boy Django. As the name would suggest, it had many elements of light and dark, including a solar sensor on the game pak that required you to go out into the sun in real life to solve certain puzzles. Within the game, the main character becomes corrupted with darkness. "Dark Sun" was a term to refer to him in that form. I just liked the name and the themes that it suggested. Just the idea of a sun spewing darkness instead of light is something I've found intriguing. Maybe I should make sure Celestia doesn't see this...

Im sure you will find that its rarer to find a welcome topic that doesnt have less then 4 or so replies.
I understand your skepticism though, just remember that while we have almost 20'000 members, not all of them are active :P

Either way, welcome to the site
Hopefully we have answers to all of your questions ^_^
That being said, I hope you enjoy being here

Welcome to the forums. Rather than putting a link to Pinkie Pie's welcome song or GIF, I just want to give you a plain old, short, simple welcome. If you need any help, or just want to chat, feel free to PM me. Don't be a stranger!

And yet again, I am confused by the eagerness and energy exhibited by you all. So quick to befriend, so fast to respond. And yet you know next to nothing of me. Perhaps it's a sort of reflection of the attitude of the show itself...anyways I'll try my best to find a way to decipher this community. I've never chatted to an unknown person online before, so I know of no reason to do so. Any topics of conversation would be great for a new person (or should it be pony?) as myself!

The main reason one would chat with strangers is that friends can be found in places you don't expect. People converse with strangers for the reason you don't go spelunking in your backyard, if you already are familiar with something, it's unlikely you'll find something new. Making friends is impossible if you stick in a secluded social circle.

I was going to ask "why would I want to make new friends?" but I then realized that would be a complete repeat of the first episode. So I'll drop the topic. But you understand that I have no groundwork, no foundation. If I am to succeed in such an endeavor, what could I possibly message another person about?

Literally anything. I think connections between people have more to do with the fact that they conversed rather than what they conversed about.

Exactly. I'm a lot like you. I'm pretty skeptical about my little pony still. I've been a brony for a full week. I'm not one of those people that are in love with the show so much that I could just draw ponies all day, but I respect the people who do and I enjoy their drawings. I like the show and all, but I'm not so into it that I'm going to go into a store and buy merchandise or go to a convention. I wouldn't mind being there but I won't go out of my way to do so. So I can relate. Anyway, Welcome to MLP forums! The people here are Indescribable (nice/quirky/funny). See you around! Being a brony takes some time to set in. You may be on the lowest level of fandom, but still have a slight interest in the show.

That's the internet my friend! :P It may not be dedicated but it sure is sincere. With "Real-life" friends you have to make it a constant effort to socialize with them. Friending somebody is nothing where you have to be into what they are doing. Just chill man. It's what the internet is for :) You don't have to use "Pony" when you say "somebody", as it is just a connection with the fandom.

Welcome,  I understand the reluctance to identify yourself with a fandom that you might not fully feel you have a lot in common with, but I have spent the past few months researching and investigating the fan community (before deciding to engage in it) and I have been very pleased with what I have found.  Mature, responsible and insightful people looking to share in ideas and, perhaps above all, acceptance.

Hopefully you and I can both find what we are looking for from the forum.
