Nightmare Moon left left alone time enough for her to gather the elements from their hiding spot, but indeed, they were readily available to her. Which is different from her having to go find them in the forest. You just made a good point: It's different from Discord because Nightmare Moon would have been more vicious than Discord and would have followed her. The discussion took this direction because you were saying that the reason Celestia had the Elements ready with her was because they had found them before, because of Discord. But back to the original point, I said that there is no indication in the show that Discord is necessary for Equestria to be the way it is. Uh... But really, that's like asking, "what if there was no war?" Well, then there would be... you know... no war. Discord really is not essential to ant part of the show, except for the awesome, less "this is for 6 year old girls" part. I mean, imagine if everything in this show was "its always all nice and rainbow-y and there is no conflict." That would be bo-o-oring.
