mermaid Rarity sketch

So me and my best friend decided to do mermaids for our next art project(hopefully I'll be able to do a mermaid) but of course it had to be part pony cause it makes my art teacher frustrated since I've done ponies for pretty much every art project. I find it really funny to make him angry :P

For the actual project it's gonna be underwater, so I'll probably tweak the hair a bit. And add in other characters in the background. Spike is gonna be an extra cute turtle ;)

I love me some good Rarity fan art any day of the week, especially the days the end in "y" :D

I'd give it a solid 11/10. It's ok :D

Are you going to be posting the whole project when you're finished?

Thank you so much! I love Rarity, if Pinkie wasn't my favorite pony she'd be my favorite.

Yup, I'll be posting the project whenever I finish it. Although, I don't even know what our next project is xD We're just doing make up projects right now, but I have A's on everything so now I'm playing the waiting game on this idea. .-.

That's looking very cute. Your art teacher is a dud if he gets mad about it. Express yourself, and have FUN!

He just gets annoyed since I never really mix it up, plus he knows I could draw things other than ponies if I applied myself. Although he can't really be mad anymore since last project I decided to draw an actual person. :P

And thank you!:)

@,

Rarity is best mermaid. 8.5/10

I'm loving your artwork...

(secretly wants to make request, but forgets about it)

You're amazing at drawing, keep up the good work.

Thank you so much:)

I would do requests but I know that I tend to get really lazy and forget about them. Maybe one day I'll feel up to requests Dx

@,

Either way, you are amazing at drawing, and I'd love to continue seeing your work.

Also, and don't think this is wierd, but do you have any tips for aspiring artists. (ie. me)

It's not weird at all! I'd be happy to share tips, although I'm not exactly the best at explaining xD

I suppose generalizing art into one category it'd be extremely helpful to enroll in some type of art class. Whether it be in jr high, high school, college. Although if that's not possible that's okay, it's not a requirement. And if you're in one, don't get out. Art class can actually make drastic improvements in one's capabilities. I've noticed quite a lot of improvement on my behalf because of the class. Hell I'm in Exploring Art(the most basic art) and I can draw pretty decent.

I like to explore all kinds of medium and since I'm in art this year, it gives me a bunch of different options of what to use at no price since the teacher provides us with all sorts of crap. I've used plenty of things such as oil pastel, acrylic paint, colored pencil, marker, crayon, watercolor, paper mâché, and tons of other stuff. Some worked better than others, so always remember to immerse yourself in any available art supplies.

Drawing wise, it always helps to be good at traditional. Even if digital is what you wanna do, it still benefits an artist to draw something in person other than a computer all the time. For me, I like to decide on exactly what I'm going to draw, then google up whatever I feel will give me ideas on how to set up that image on the paper that I see in my head. I also look at references all the time whenever I can, not to copy, but for inspiration. Although it is okay to copy if you choose to do so, I typically don't unless I'm just messing around.

Also a change in style can do an artist good. If I draw the exact same way for all my artwork it tends to bore me, change is good.

Breaking it down to the nitty gritty. It's important to explore and challenge yourself, never stop drawing even if some art comes out rather...meh in your eyes. Art supplies can be expensive and make rather mediocre art, with the right technique and practice even the most cheap medium can make beautiful artwork.

It also really helps to keep a portfolio of some sort of all drawings you do, that way it's easier to see improvement. Oh and youtube. YouTube is where I go when I need tips on coloring or drawing in general.

Wooo... alrighty then. Took a while to read, but completely worth it. I've actually done some already, and am going for an art major. If I could put up some stuff, I would, but I am currently not using a computer. Thank you for the help, I'd love to see what you do next. I think I might just lack confidance. And patience.

Woah, art major. That's pretty awesome! I'd love to go for that, but I've decided to go on the path to zoology and just keep art as a hobby. :P

Confidence is definitely important. It shows that you are proud of what you've accomplished and aren't afraid to show it to your peers. And patience, although I don't have much patience when it comes to art. Like my Luke Bryan realistic portrait was finished at 11 at night the day before it was due because my patience ran out and I procrastinated. Dx

@,

But it still turned out amazing, and everyone loved it!

Zoology sounds fun, good luck to you. Just need more confidance, and I should be fine.

Thank you! \(^o^)/

Good luck with art! Hope you do well and all that awesome jazz.

You're welcome! C:

(hopefully I'll be able to do a mermaid

A less mature person than me would make a joke out of that but not me, no sir.

Anyways, lovely pic, though I feel it looks a tad stunted (short/thick neck, tail looks rather short).

Tomorrow will take us away, far from home

No one will ever know our names

yeah I had to do it like that since I ran out of room for the sketch. But this isn't the actual project, luckily I'll be able to adjust my idea and still fit the theme of the project since it's space. So epic underwater pony mermaid world. :3
